    Are you ready TO RAWK!?!?
Well, the Mini's driver's side window stopped working for one week, worked for one day(after torrential rain), then stopped working again. It's now going to the dealer Monday, plus a peace-of-mind oil change.

Working 8:30 to 6 is no fun, but look at all the things accomplished. On the TV front, I've been watching the 100 most outrageous moments in heavy metal on VH1. Man does that bring back memories of watching MTV's Headbangers Ball when I actually had hair. And it was a cheap-ass mullet too!

Among one of my favorite highlights was watching Wendy O Williams + The Plasmatics go crazy doing their set on The Tom Snyder Show. It's funny that they are on the Tom Snyder show since he's so damn square. But the man had a vision. He was the first guy to air U2 on American television. The highlights just get bettter and better. It's funny to see some old butt-rockers nowadays. Let's recap:

    1. Mick Mars of Motley Crue looks like a satan worshipping-freak. He has a gotee and a moustache(but only on the sides), and looks really dang scary. Hey, maybe he can go into child care!

    2. One of the members of Tesla has short hair now and just looks like a regular guy. If you saw him down the street, you would have never thought he was in a metal band.

    3. Sebastian Bach has cut down on using hair spray.

    4. Blackie Lawless looks just like Blackie Lawlesss

    5. In all the interviews with Gene Simmons, he's still in his makeup + costume. C'mon who are you fooling? It's not 1978. this is a documentary. You can wear sweatpants and stuff during the interview. The viewers won't mind a bit! You can still hock your KISS coffin.

I had no idea Dave Grohl, drummer for Nirvana(you know, the band that sprearheaded alternative, killing hair metal in the process?) got a band together of not-so-well known metal artists(Lemmy from Motorhead, etc) and released an album. That's pretty damn cool. He didn't turn his back on metal.

And probably one of the most disturbing things was seeing the advertisements for VH-1's "I love the 90s". You knew it was going to happen. The commercial took place in "The peach pit" with Hal Sparks holding a kooshie. There were appearances by The bee girl from the Blind Melon videos, faux Spice Girls, fake Bill Clinton and Lewinsky, and I think the real Peach Pit guy.

I don't need to tell you just how much I hated the 90s. Let's put aside my normal evolution(puberty, sex, driving, getting a job, moving out) and the 90s is pretty damn disappointing. Bring me back my Korg synthesizers and feathered hair. Either way, you know I'm going to watch "I love the 90s" with Michael Ian Black trying to be funny every night. It will almost be like watching Roots, er, I love the 80s, or even this Metal moments thing(it runs all week) at my household.

    The '80s czar has spoken.

    Things that are just disturbing
    1. Retardsex.com(not safe for work). Saw a preview on consumptionjunction.com since I was bored. Okay, so you think it's an actor wearing a bike helmet gettin' it on, right? No, it's worse. They hire the chick(who's just an actress) to act like she has down's syndrome. Totally evil. This is a perfect example of "bad" porn illypses was talking about.

    2. The band known as Insane Clown Posse have a "culture". Yes, there seems to be an ungodly # of websites for "juggalos" and "juggalletes", ie fans of ICP. There's even their own lexicon and erotica. Their "erotica" consists of girls wearing ICP makeup on their faces and pouring Faygo(some cheap soft drink) on each other. So I guess it's a small step above retardsex.com.

    3. last, but not least, po-ta-toes.com . This is so incredibly low-brow I couldn't help but laugh.

And in other news, the 100 most outraegous metal moments on VH-1 is a hoot to watch.

    weekend wrap-up
Friday: Not wanting to be around work anymore, I stopped teelcommuting at around 2:30 and just said fuck it and laid down for a bit. Then went to the meeting. Rented some movies: Pitch Black(okay, but eh), Freddy vs. Jason(not worth your time). Haven't watched Coma yet.

Saturday: I honestly forgot what I did. I think it involved extensive cleaning of the house, and one self. Then I did my one thing I usually do on Saturday nights.

After getting off early, I went to illypses' house party. I was like ehh. It still just reflected to me of the whole "kiss the dj's ass" scene mentality. Barely talked to anyone. Didn't stay too long. It jsut reminds me i need to find a scene where, um, yeah.

So as I was driving home a car felt like it was following me. As with my paranoia, any car that does a turn simliar to mine makes me think it's following me. I pulled over, and he pulled over. I was being followed. But it was okay. It was esper.
He was having troubles getting there. So with the usual problems I had, I got him back there, and left again.

Sunday: What the heck did I do? I think it involved more cleaning of house stuff. The printer works again, and for some bizarre reason the Mini's driver's side window works again. So that's a bit of stress relief.

    Holy shit!
I'm watching VH-1 Classic, and there's this song from The Parachute club on.

I just realized I met the vocalist of this band last November in Toronto! What are the chances!?! I mistakened her for Martha Johnson of Martha and the Muffins. Small world. Weird, I've watched so much VH-1 Classic I finally ran into someone who's on it!

    this week
This week has been much too stressful and busy. I can't get a free minute to myself.

    1. The Mini's left window doesn't work anymore. Just wonderful. Now i have to go through the bureaucratic process of dropping it off for them to fix when it was there just last week.

    2. I can safely say the lawn mowing was done. I had to telecommute today to do it

    3. 300 things keep happening at work. It's like trying to put out little fires.

But twice this week I got to dine with fishonabicycle. We first went to Khan's where the New Kids on the Block was blasting on the radio. That led to some recollections of their ghey dance moves and excessive popularity.

Tuesday led us to The Blue Nile with khanreaper, codefreez, and several others. Friends, real friends. Ones actually worthy of being listed on my "friends" list. WHy? Friends actually get together and go beyond this internet barrier. As for the Blue Nile man was that food incredibly spicy. I could get over the fact I had no utensils and had to use these flavorless pancakes to pick up my food. But man did the spices strike hard. I had to leave quickly just for that reason. Of course I drank a gallon of water to fix that, and ended up uriniating 2 gallons worth.

Yeah there's that whole friends thing. Can't say I didn't try to network better. ladygaia gets the "quickest mutual defriending" award. She never responded to any of my journal entries, and didn't respond much to my comments on her 1-line journal entries. But hey, it's not my fault I'm not fridgedicebunny. Then again she was in some "bad" company that I got to read about but not be involved with. Eh, gone. Maybe LJ isn't the place to network out a bit. Friends are only temporary. Of course, I'm guilty of doing unexpected defriendings, but there's always a reason behind them. Eh I'll get off that tangent.

I really do need that day off Monday. Maybe I can get some work on the Spitfire done, or do some trimmin' on the lawn.

And yesterday to celebrate Dialect getting me my rekkids back I bought more records. Now exploring the twin cities 80s music scene, with some strange results.

    weekend wrap-up
    What a motherfuckin' crazy weekend:

Friday: Codefreez and I meet at AFG. I get sick to my stomach, so we head back to my place. We get started by drilling the pilot hole in in the bathroom for the new medicine cabinet. Things got difficult since the way the mounting bracket is made. We coudln't exactly drill a pilot hole with the bracket on, so we improvised. Hat to drill the hole in twice due to the length of the screw. But, with all the sawing I did before hand(making a mess) we got that motherfuckin' bracket on. Didn't get the cabinet on, but the bracket is on there. That's progress.

So we had to wait for the drill to charge up even more and that's where brilliance came in. I though hey, since we need to hit the gas station for snacks anyway, why don't we hit Cheapo Records? I sure could use so more more 80s. So that's what we did. And man was it a good haul! Artists bought:
The Waitresses - Bruiseology(now I can complete my Waitresses library)
    Shandi - (self titled?)
Instructions - some Gary Numan wannabe
    Geraldine Cordeau - (self titled?)

And there were some others whos names I forgot, but it's mostly good stuff. Code was particularly impressed with Debra Dejean. I liked the album cover, he liked the actual music. He said it was definitely Daft Punkish, being made in 1980. During this time I got a nice crash course on how to use a Technics 1200 turntable, like the hundreds of bedroom djs on mnvibe know that I don't. He showed me the time-honored trick of just hitting the off switch to make it slow down gracefully and saying "party's busted, go home!". He seemed to enjoy twiddling the knobs on my dinky little mixer. I was just happy I was getting anything through the phono channels. He then also fixed apache on one of my linux boxen that I would have never figured out. Thanks.

Saturday: I'll tell you in the friends only post

Sunday: Waited for dialect at AFG for an hour to get my other rekkids back, but he slept way late. Coudln't get ahold of him on his mobile either. So, like Saturday, the day consisted of cleaning the house here and there. I also tried my hand at vinyl ripping using LAMe, some program codefreez downloaded for me. It let me record WAV files for longer than 60 seconds, so now i have 3 Watiresses tracks ready to be re-encoded to MP3. Wonder if I should have recorded them at 48000hz sampling rate(the top) instead of 44K. Mind you, I have no idea how to do any sort of equalizing of the phono input, I just played it by ear. If it sounded good to me, I was happy. Thankfully I have excellent hearing.

Then came the mandatory TV watching:
Simpsons: Eh, episode was okay. No major kitsch chuckles. I missed parts of it since I was cooking
Alias: Man, what a disappointing season finale. Isabella Rosellini was in it for less than a minute, and now she's an evil character. Also some unexplained things that just defy reality.
Crossing Jordan: I enjoyed this episode better than I thought, but I got mixed up with some of the names here and there. But of a 'blah' ending on the whodunit.

    Then it was bedtime.

    update
    1. The MINI is now in the dealership for a much-needed ECU upgrade and to turn the daytime running lamps on. Jeesh. $55 to turn ON the DRLs? It's just a flag in the software!

    2. With my rekkid purchases 2 days ago, I felt the need to buy a turntable to listen to them nicely. So yesterday I mosy over to Pawn America and get a Technics 1200 table for $200. Wow. The last stand-alone turntable I owned was manufactured by Fisher Price over 20 years ago. Unfortunately, I now need a phono preamp because I can barely hear it. it's just slightly quieter than the Fisher Price table. Fun to play with all the gizmos on the Technics table. Yes, codefreez was right that it is sexy. I personally like the numbers and shit on the tonearm.

    3. How do you like that rain, huh?

    4. I haven't bought a pack of cigarettes since Monday. It seems easier to go to the gym now.

    5. Hmm, Saturday.

    Today's art

Look, it's one of the albums I bought at Cheapo Records last night. Ha! Fooled you! I just made it this morning. It's your stereotypical early '80s album cover. Let's break it down.

    1. 1950s-style cursive writing at an angle of band name: check
    2. name consists of $NAME and the $MEMBERS (ie Martha and the Muffins, Angel and the Reruns). Check
    3. Portrait so blatantly motherfuckin' 80s. Check. I got it from an arcade game flyer
    4. Excessively-kerned text at the bottom. check

#1 and #4 can be easily seen on Josie Cotton's "From the Hip".

You see, every 80s clique always had some dude named "scooter" for some odd reason. i woudn't be surprise if there was a "scooter" cut out in the movie "One more Saturday Night". And "scooter" always wore sunglasses. In every 80s or '50s clique, some guy wore sunglasses 24/7. this example has three of them. You can tell who's the boss in the pic since he's the only one with a girlfriend. Also, no sunglasses. he has to set himself apart, and the male pattern baldness is helping.

Now let's talk about this band that only exists as a figment of my imagination. Their debut album "hanging out at the arcade" was released in 1980. it was very Stray Cats like, paying homage to the 1950s. They got the idea for a band while seeing "grease" and wanted to cash in on the craze. many of their songs are rockabilly and stuff, with such subjects like borrowing the car from dad, breaking up with your girlfriend, and fights after school.

The band came from Sacramento, California. They only recieved little airplay on KROQ. They opened for Gary Myrick on a few occasions.

I have way too much free time on my hands. Look at me. I'm so into 80s nostalgia I can create completely bullshit 80s nostalgia on the fly! But it's convincing!

    Score!
Even though I didn't feel good, I scored some rekkids, 30 bucks worth!

Debra Dejean - (self titled). Mystery album. Bought it since she looked like a better-looking Annie Lennox
Boomtown Rats - Tonic for the Troops(bought it only for "Rat trap")
Laura Branigan - (self titled). DUnno why I bought this
Fay Ray - Contact You - SCORE! I cant praise this band enough
Darling - Put it down to experience - ???? mystery album! I buy 80s albums if their cover looks 80s enough. this qualified
AFOS - Listen - for completion sake
FM - Black Noise - featuring Nash the slash!@
Peter Baumann - Spirit in the Night - Hi, i used to be a 70s artist ,now I went new wave to make rent

    and...

the cream of the crop. Cabaret Voltaire - Drinking Gasoline. Featuring 2 12-inch 45ers. I got it just for "sleepwalking", which clocks in at 8 minutes. It's industrial from 1985! To think ministry was still a synthpop band back then. CFNY incorrectly listed the track as being Throbbing Gristle's "still walking". Nope.

And I didn't even get past the G section at Cheapo records before I had to buy this and go due to illnes.

    MINI One Year Anniversary
I look on the calendar, and I find out I've been driving Ladytron, the MINI for 1 year now.

Ah what a year it has been. Finally saying goodbye to the Saturn and it's idling problem, I get a car that's actually fun to drive. There's almost 17,000 miles on it now. Friday I finally take it in for the much-needed ECU upgrade and to turn the daytime runners on. The windshield? Lasted less than a year due to an unfortunate collision with flying concrete.

And you know those telephone dial wheels will get dirty as soon as I clean them. But that's life. I still ponder the coulda woulda shoulda had I got the MINI in blue. Had I got it in blue, I could have taken it to a customizing place and make the WHOLE CAR a British flag, just like in Austin Powers. That to me would be the aww yeah. But the chili red, Union Jack roof(mandatory) and blingy hood stripes will do for now. It's the "cliche" new MINI look, even though I'm missing the 5-star wheels.

And I'm listening to my Juice Newton's Greatest Hits CD right now. Ah what a classic. Haven't heard "Queen of Hearts" since I was a toddler.

    weekend wrap-up
Friday: Went to the meeting, same one as I did 2 fridays ago. I'll tell you about it later.

Saturday: It was time for Eraziel's 30th birthday party. Ah that was interesting to say the least. It was an official "surprise" party with us surprise-yellers behind the garage door. Here's the surpsing bit, it wasn't a sausage fest! I got him a gift, being a book called "The Poor Man's James Bond", that I found at Arise! bookstore. It's not unlike The Anarchist's Cookbook, so it fit him.

Games were to be played there. The first one was "cucumber". You put a cucumber in a pair of pantyhose, and tie it around your waist. Then you have to swing with your hips to get a golf ball across to the finish line before anyone else does. I did horribly on the 2nd round. Most of the time I missed it, or sometimes hit backwards. On the 3rd round i almost won(2nd place). I had a short series of long drives, but Eraziel's sister beat me. But as she was the one handing out Target gift cards, I won another one.

Then there was the pretzel game. A line of people stand with toothpicks in their mouths. Then you "transfer" a pretzel from the ends of the line into a cup. Sure, eraziel got to be within way-too-personal space with HOlly, while I got a lookalike of Francis Ford Coppola. NEedless to say I made the prezel release to him quick. :) The strategy was to point up to receive, point down to release. Our team won I think.

3rd game is where "hilarity ensued". The women were to belly dance, and we judge them. Well, it was decided the guys did. Yeah, there's probably some embarassing photos of me aorund somewhere thanks to Portico. But it's not the first time.

Sunday: Cleaned house, made fajitas, and watched Crossing Jordan. No Alias tonight. ALso got a bonus That 70s Show. Tomorrow night its a bonus Crossing Jordan.

    Fascinating factoid about me

Fascinating fact about me in regards to this guy..

I have unknowingly managed to get this guy played on twin cities radio not once, but TWICE!

I first mentioned it on a thread on mnvibe(JB just satisfied the mandatory DDTTTS kitch reference today), and Bling Crosby, aka Conquest Inc. played it on his show on KAUG for me. Apparently he had a copy of the album.

Then just recently, Frank of Frank & Lola fame was reading this LJ right here. I mentioned DD(shorthand for Devastatin' Dave), and whaddya know, he played it on Free Radio twin Cities! Lola claimed she brought it up to him via the obscure album covers website, where I originally got it from.

So thanks to me, Devastatin' Dave is getting mentioned & played more now in 2004 than he ever did in the 80s. Mind you, there was no internet in the 80s, but i doubt he was played on the radio back then.

Behold my superhero powers to get obscure rap acts from the 80s(where else) to be played on the radio.

Now only if I could do that on the suburban lawns. BTW, I have their whole album posted at my usual mp3 dump. Also got Shiny Shiny by Hayzee fantayzee there too. Enjoy.

Coach Z, how come you don't dance no more?
Okay, let's get this out of the way.

More obscure 80s mp3s for your enjoyment+1990s song

Suburban lawns - Janitor: This song just screams late 70s/early 80s obscure, KROQ-era "new wave". I luv it. Waiting on 2 people on Soulseek to get me the whole album.

Suburban Lawns - Gidget goes to hell. Another one thrown in for good measure

Angel and the Reruns - buffy come back: This one's corny. talks about their love affair with some 60s tv show.

Angel and the reruns; Why do good girls like bad boys: This was on the Tom Hanks film "bachelor party".

brian Riggs - see you on the other side: Like the background vocals in this quasi-country song

Wild horses - funky poodle: just because

5 grave - 45 grave(actually it's supposed to be 45 grave): this one's chaotic. a bit of goth, a bit of punk it seeems

Tonio K - A lovers plea: From the makers of the funky western civilization

Chrisma - black silk stalking: Like this gary-numan, tik &tok; like song.

New Music - Straight Lines: This one has all sorts of funky sounds. The rest of the album is in progress of being downloaded.

Action pact - Gothic Party Time: This one was so kitschy I had to include it. maybe the self-labled twin cities gothic community would like this one. With lyrics like "Crowley is the most!", who can resist this one?

Josie Cotton - Frightened by Nightingales: Mandatory josie cotton Mp3drop satisfied!

Now only if I could get "not in love" by Platinum blondie.

That's all for music for now. Enjoy. The self-made mix cd is a sucess, even with jewel case artwork(consisting of video game flyer images)

Bush apologizes for 5th Iraqi HIV infection in adult war industry
    And now the Friday sermon..

The week has gone by exceptionally fast. First, you combine getting to work at around 8:00 or 8:30(moreso the latter), and then don't try to leave until 5pm. After 5pm, you go hit the gym.

The parts that make this difficult is 1) all those damn good new episodes of my favorite TV shows. Most notably, That 70s Show. But please get rid of Seth Green's character.

Combine that with the Bloomington city ordinance that requires a stalled vehicle be on 494 as I'm driving on it to get to said gym. I'll just drive around it.

My goal to go to the gym 5 days a week can get difficult. Usually I forget my bag, or on Modnays I just say screw it and go home. Then I go home, try to sleep until 7 but end up pissing every 10 minutes for no particular reason.

But on Tuesday and Wednesday I managed to hit the gym and get things done. It's rare that I go to the gym 2 consecutive days in a row.

As for other things, well, things at home are getting done, but darn am I needing those curtains. Good curtains you know? Ones that are pure opaque. Is that so much to ask for? My mom is still way behind on making them.

And as much as I love reading about other people's exciting social lives that I'm not welcome in, I gotta hit the gym today and find out what to do for the weekend. Something real, you know? And no, not replying my messages is not an option.

    weekend wrap-up
Friday: Went to a meeting that I'll discuss later. Was pretty productive, but quickly reminded me of how meetings went at work. It delves down to 1 or 2 people talking, the rest going into a lull since they can't say jack shit. C'mon spread it out, let everyone get a chance to talk. And if you are the meeting coordinator, don't slouch and mumble as much as I do.

Went to eat at "the steak knife" in dinkytown, didn't feel well so I proceeded back home.

Saturday: Did lots of chores. Got rid of the garbage in my car port area of the garage. It's not complete, but getting there. Went out to uncommon grounds with khanreaper, and decided we'll never show there again. blah. Then went to Plan B and that was a bit better. Glad to see the usual skeezes that practically live there were gone. Wasn't inspired to do much else except read about the Citroen DS21.

Sunday: Uh, woke up at noon and I think I did a few chores here and there. The filter for the furnace was changed and dang was it dirty. Talked to someone who conveniently forgot to reply to the message I sent her Thursday. yeah, I was upset with her and made that clear. Boom, that's over.
