I arrived in town and picked up the cats. An outragous amount of money for teeth cleaning and 4 extractions each later and they were with me again. More money then I have spent on my own health in the past two year. More then 12 times the amount I paid for the two of them together 2 years ago. Not that it is a sticking point or anything.
Ouch.
Anywho....I'm glad to have them back with me. They are healthy again. And they have both spent a bit of quality time with me. And that is the important thing.
The plans for the weekend are to go to Sofa Express to find me a living room set, and I think I'm getting dragged to a clam bake my brother-in-law was invited to. I'm not sure how I got roped into that. I'm not a clam fan. And I need to hit Best Buy to pick up the wireless networking stuff since I have a 10% off coupon good this weekend only. I think I'm going to spend way too much money this weekend. Even oucher.

Kitty Update |
[10 Oct 2003 01:42pm] |
Both Bob and Jay's blood work came back fine, so no feline lukemia or FIV for either of them.
*big sigh of relief*
Thanks for all the happy kitty thoughts sent their way!
Now they are getting their teeth cleaned and the ones that go are going. Poor little guys.

Michelle Branch - 'Til I Get Over You |

According to this article, I have a 281.2% chance of public humiliation and a 294.7% damage to my sex life.
Though in defense of the roleplaying's damage to one's sex life, I will wager that the author of the article never saw a woman in a chain mail bikini. Though I do admit the chain mail could damage one's sex life if appropriate care is not taken first. And Star Wars? How about this lady? Or the Leia slave outfit? Oh yeah. Women dig The Force.

Friday! |
[10 Oct 2003 08:30am] |
It has been an eventful week, with only 6-8 hours spent at work so far so it doesn't really feel like a Friday. Of course the week's events aren't over yet. In about 40 minutes my cats go into the vet for a teeth cleaning and a couple teeth extractions each. Their teeth aren't in good shape. Gingivitis for both. The thing that has me worried about it is that the doctor said that teeth problems this early in their life can be an indication of FIV or feline lukemia, so they are testing for that this morning as well. That scares me. I'm thinking good thoughts in their direction.
In unrelated news, it took 7 minutes to get to work this morning. I like that. A lot.
I unpacked more last night. Found my computer and printer. And the buttload of cables I've accumulated over the years. The washer and drier were delivered yesterday afternoon, but the washer seemed broken. It would never shut off the cold water. So they took that one back. So I have a drier. I suppose I could take a shower with my clothes on and then dry them if I need something cleaned for the moment.

Religion just plain sucks |

Now I have to admit I have never liked the unknowable aspect of religion and the idea that some ideas of against god's will that some religions seem to promote. The whole idea of stopping life-saving research because someone is ignorant of the science involved is one of my really big pet peeves. But for the Vatican to come out and actively PROMOTE ignorance about condoms? And to do it specifically in regards to Africa where AIDS is an epidemic? That is disgusting.
( The Article )
The facts are that the AIDS virus is much smaller then spermatazoa, but they can only pass through the natural condoms. Lambskin, I think it is. NOT the more common latex ones. And yet the church members in the story are essentially encouraging infected individuals to infect their loved ones. And claiming that condoms carry AIDS is just malicious.
I hate to think ill of groups, but right now I feel that if the whole Catholic church just shriveled up and blew away right now, that would save more lives then it would if they stuck around.

First Day of Work in Toledo and Home Musings |
[09 Oct 2003 08:51am] |
Time from my door to the office door: maybe 10 minutes. Would have been faster except someone in front of me seemed to be afraid of going the speed limit.
I think I'm gonna like it here.
I need to make a list of all the stuff the place needs. It isn't a terribly long list but it exists. One thing I need to do is replace the toilet seats. The ones they have now are a very thin plastic. Uncomfortable. And they probably cost a buck in bulk. I already have a nice shower head to replace the standard boring one in my bathroom. I need more hand towels for the extra bathrooms. Stuff like that.
Of course, the most important thing I need for the house is one I need to do some research on. I need to get a wireless network and wireless cards. I'm leaning towards Netgear but I need to do some checking on what is out there and figure out if I want the 802.11b or 802.11g or what. Anyone out there have experience with it and have suggestions?

Foudn MacGuyver on TVLand. He is fighting some ants that are strippign the land bare. The funny thing is that they make this little "insect crying" noise when they die. I keep expecting to hear in a little itty bitty voice "Oh no.... I'm melting" :)

I have moved! |
[08 Oct 2003 10:02pm] |
They packed me up Sunday, loaded my stuff onto the truck Monday, and then unloaded me Tuesday after I closed that morning. Yesterday was spent unpacking. My sister came up to help and brought my nephew Ricky. They kept me fairly sane through the whole thing. Tina was helpful with unpacking and directing the movers. Ricky was more of a comic relief for the two days. We got enough unpacked to have the kitchen working and the bedrooms and the bathrooms. We were exhausted quickly. I was in bed by 10:30 that night.
The movers were amazing though. I can't imagine doing it without them. They moved the two heaviest things in the entire place down to the basement. The couch with the recliners and massagers built in and the corner unit entertainment center. The living room doesn't have any corners so I didn't think a corner unit would work in the room. When it was set against the wall in the basement, I thought it looked pretty good. But I thought the movers would kill me if I asked for it to go upstairs again. Besides ithere is a sort of little alcove that it fits in perfectly downstairs that does not exist in the living room so it is apples and oranges. The couch went down there too and the basement is a very nice, cozy little room.
My sister and nephew took off this afternoon. they were very helpful. I'm not sure what I would have done without them except go insane.
So now I am a Toledo, Ohio person. It feels very weird. I lived here and then I didn't. And now I do again. It is the same but it is different too. It wil ltake some time to get used to.

Maybe I could have been a mover... |
[06 Oct 2003 12:21pm] |
In my car I have 2 suitcases and a duffle bag full of clothes, a case of cleaning supplies, a 19" tv, DVD player, cables to connect them all, a 17" monitor, computer, keyboard, mouse, speakers, all the nessesary cables, a 4 port router, cordless phone, tool box, broom, swifter wetjet, inflatable matress, air pump, bedding for matress(sheets & 2 blankets) , 2 pillows, 20+ DVDs, CD player w/17 CDs, laptop, 5 plants, every piece of paperwork I ever recieved for the move, and there is still room for me to drive the thing and look out the window.
Who needs a truck when you've got a Mustang :)

Getting Packed Up |
[05 Oct 2003 10:18am] |
The people have come in to pack me up and they said that I have one of the cleaner and more organized homes they've been to. Either they are just telling me that to be nice or they have been in some amazingly crappy homes. Either way, it is kind of them to say so. They got here around 8:30 this morning and seem to have a lot o the stuff packed up already. The kitchen, laundry/storgage room, and living room are all pretty much done. That just leaves the finished part of the basement, and the two bedrooms. So they seem on track for finishing by noon like I was told.
AND the cool part is that they leave the bed and all that in place so I can sleep here, and they are leaving the tv hooked up so I can watch the premier of Tarzan tonight and the special $100,000 Trading Spaces. So things are going well so far.
And I need to give a big thanks to rainbow_slinky for our chat last night. You probably don't know it but I was freaking out over the move, my cats, and everything else. We didn't really talk about it all but just having a fun, easy conversation with you helped me calm down and relax. Thanks Mel!

Stressful day |
[04 Oct 2003 12:00am] |
It's been a long day and I'm tired. The good news is that it seems like the equity advance will come through just fine on Monday in time for closing. But it was stressful to getting to that point and I'm sitll not over it. My stomache is kinda twisted and I am exhausted.
But I can't sleep because I have to do laundry because my stupid machine at home is acting flaky. And I need to call someone to come out and look at it Monday. It is not going as easy as I had hoped. But I will have a new home in 4 days and that will make life much much easier.

Amost forgot |
[03 Oct 2003 12:58pm] |
Just to let you know the kinda day I'm having, al lthe stuff I have left to do is to be done over the telephone. I have not lost my voice in over 20 years. Guess who is in the process of losing his voice? Yup. Fortunately, it is only the higher register so far so I can still speak in a low pitched voice. So I will spend the time coming close to growling at people on the phone.

Long weekend |
[03 Oct 2003 12:38pm] |
I've gotten a lot of the stuff taken care of. There are a couple of things still haning over my head but I'm feeling more confidant about them. No particular reason to, so I'm not investigating that too closely. Turned in the key for the old building and said goodbye to people there. Signed and sent back some more paperwork that came to me this morning. I've got to get a few things around to drive to Cleveland and then I am headed out.
Given my schedule and intermittant access to the internet for the next week, odds are I will not be posting too much and will likely not be able to respond to your posts in the near future. So I haven't forgotten about ya. I just have to deal with too much Real Life stuff. Hope all of you have a good weekend and week after that!

After having some bored time during the meeting I went back and edited my friends style to add "style=mine" to the comment URLs, so now I'm not forced to use yourthe S2 styles used in your comment pages.
Not that any of you use (IMNSHO) questionable designs, or poor color schemes for people with color impaired vision, or use languages I don't speak or anything else like that. It's me and my obsessive desire to not have to deal with the wide variaty of creative decisions you all have made.

Moving and Meeting |
[02 Oct 2003 02:47pm] |
I've spent most of today in a meeting so far. Woke up early so I could drive down to Toledo for this meeting and to unpack my car of all the office stuff I had to pack up yesterday. Unpacking was pretty quick. It was mainly just dumping stuff back in drawers and cabnets. I will need to organize it a bit, but it is mostly put away. The meeting itself has been pretty good so far. I haven't fallen asleep. I've made a few comments that seem to go over well. I think I will be kinda held afterwards to talk about a few things the team leader wants to put in place. But it has been a productive meeting too. I've gotten my office phone and voice mail setup during breaks and I've been answering email. Almost as productive as my normal day of surfing LJ working.
And I had a chance to check out the new Open Office 1.1 office suite. It is pretty cool so far. Especailly for a free 65MB download. Just as easy as MS Office and in some respects it is even easier. It has opened up all the Word documents I've tested it with. I haven't played with the spreadsheet stuff but it looks good. If it just had a decent database component, I could blow away the copies of MS Office I have at home. I think Open Office can tie into MySQL, but I don't have a MySQL server running at the moment. But a nice thing about OO is that is runs on just about EVERYTHING (Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac, BSD, and more) and it is compatible with MS Office and it can export everything to PDF, which is really cool! I'm wondering if I want to be a rebel at work and try using that instead of MS Office and see if anyone notices.

[01 Oct 2003 06:11pm] |
The house inspectionor just called (after 6pm at the office? What sort person does he think I am?) and we talked over the report. He said that there were were a few minor things to note, but nothing important. Everything looked good to him. He thought the unit was in great shape. So I'm very pleased! The last roadblock is out of the way. So unless the mortgage people cause any problems, I am all set with the new place.
