I nearly cried with joy when I saw that Mittens and Cindy had been adopted! According to the manager of that store, someone saw one of my LJ posts and came to the store to adopt them! I am so happy that someone actually found a pet through these postings! Congratulations to whoever gave these wonderful babies a home!! Also, my naughty orange kitten was adopted! So, since three of my babies have been adopted, that means there are some new babies at Save Our Strays Atlanta!

Kitties! )

Once again, these are available through Save Out Strays Atlanta. These particular cats are available at the Lawreneville-Suwanee Rd. Petsmart in Lawrenceville, GA (north-east metro-Atlanta). If you'd like to download the adoption application, click the link below:

Also, if the store above is not covenient for you, check your local Petsmart! There are beautiful kitties everywhere that need homes!

This dog needs a home! [30 Jul 2005|05:24pm]

eller
[ mood | hopeful ]

This is Barney.

He is around 8 months old. We adopted him today for free from a woman out in the South End that said her husband "bought him from someone that said he was a full blooded pit bull but now he won't even mess with him."

The woman said the dog has always been kept outdoors and the most her husband would do was "throw him some food". She was willing to give him away to anyone regardless of their intentions it seemed to me because my initial e mail to her was "I'll take him." and she responded with her address and when I could pick him up. When we got there I asked a lot of questions, since we cannot keep him and just wanted to save him from going to a shitty home or become as I've heard it put 'a disposable sparring partner for another Pit Bull" he needs a home QUICK!

Background on Barney )

Todays behavior observations... )

Basically, he seems well tempered but needy affectionate-wise. He would need a backyard probably or someone to take him on many walks often.
Okay with older kids (10 and up) but I think he would need to be an only dog but I'm not sure yet.

Here are some pictures of him....
Click )

If you want to meet him or ask questions e mail me at Clayfist@gmail.com and I will send you my phone number. My name is Ella.

Also, We'll give you his collar (red), his leash (red) and that dog house in the picture. (it's needs to be washed.

Thank you. Please pass the word along about this doggie.
This dog is located in Louisville KY.

Chihuahua Adoption [30 Jul 2005|12:15pm]

prissy_pricilla
[ mood | crushed ]

Sorry if you guys think this is annoying, I am not trying to get on your nerves... I am not to happy about this myself, but I have a week to do it so I am using every resource available to me!

Mr. Tiny Pants is a two year old pure bred chihuahua. He is fixed. He is very fun, but clingy. He spent the first year of his life locked in a kennel, the humane society took him away and I adopted him! I have had him since February, and just last month we moved from Arizona (where he is from) to Rhode Island. Our new apartment isn't going to let me keep him so he is up for adoption. There is an adoption fee, but only because its safer.

He has an ad on petfinder.com if you want to look at it.

His behavior problems are that of any small dog, he barks a lot at nothing, but other than that he is well behaved. He is NOT good around cats and as far as we know IS good around other dogs.

He isn't the most playful but he loves tennis balls!

He is VERY affectionate and pretty possesive, he makes a good family dog but would be better suited as an "only child".

His favorite thing to do is dress up in his dog clothes. He has a pretty big wardrobe, but I am only sending him with his favorites as I would like to keep the rest for sentimental reasons.

He is microchipped, and we can have all the information changed for you.

I will send him with:

His bed.
His favorite shirt, sweater, and little pants.
His food bowl.
A new collar (I am a sap and want to keep his old one)
His kennel (just a standard dog crate, we use it mainly when we go out for too long, he has slight seperation anxiety and has a tendancy to chew)
His ball
And all his adoption/vet etc papers

I think thats about it, for more information you can check out his "dogster page".
Mr. Tiny Pants Home page!

As for adoption fee we are looking at $150, he is a purebred and being sent with lots of stuff. We asked the vet and checked the newspaper and thats the amount we came up with. We can negotiate this if you think its too much.

And lastly, we are in Rhode Island, and if you are close (conneticutt, Mass, etc) we can meet you half way. Otherwise you will have to come get him.

If you really want him but aren't in the area, we might be able to "ship" him (I need to look into the safety of that etc) BUT you would be responsible for picking him up at the airpot and for paying for his ticket AND the adoption fee....

Any questions and/or comments you can post on here. Or you can contact me through aim: tysgirl263@aol.com, or Yahoo Messanger p_2_the_s

This is mittens. Mittens )
Mittens is a 2 year old, male, polydactyl tuxedo cat. I really want mittens to find a good home. He has been staying at Save Our Strays for many months now. I think the main reason most people aren't interested in Mittens is because of his polydactyl feet. Personally, I think he's great. His feet give him character and lots of people love polydactyls but Average Joe seems to see it as a deformity and I think that's why he is still there. He is super sweet and as playful as a kitten. He has so much energy and I really adore him.

It's not that I don't love and adore the other cats but I know they will get homes soon enough. The main reason I'm uspet that Mittens does not have a home is that he is the ONLY cat I've worked with that has been with Save Our Strays since I started, which was around September of last year. It upsets me so much to see him at SOS week after week. If I was in any position to adopt a cat, I would give Mittens a good home, however, I am moving to Japan at the end of August. I would be overjoyed if someone could give Mittens a good home.

Does anyone know anyone in Georgia that is partial to polydactyls or that could give Mittens a good home? If so, here is the web site for the non-profit organization where Mittens is being taken care of:

Please ask around. Thank you so much!

Louisiana Tortie needs home. [28 Jun 2005|09:39pm]

bunnigurl
I rescued this kitty when she was very pregnant and living in my on-campus apartment complex. Very sweet girl... I luckily found someone to foster her (I can't have her in my place). All the kittens found good homes and now I just need to find a place for her. She's been fixed and ear chipped and is used to being an outside cat. She'd make a good barn cat or perhaps a house cat with the right training. Here she is:

If you or anyone you know can help, let me know. I'm willing to drive quite a while to rehome this kitty.

Astro has passed over the Rainbow Bridge [17 Jun 2005|06:38pm]

jaguar_mysts
[ mood | sad ]

Our little rescued spiny mouse, Astro, has passed over the Rainbow Bridge today. He was getting sicker by the day, and I suspected we might just be providing palliative care. The ignorant teenaged boy who had him starved poor Astro to the point of no return, and nothing we did seemed to help. We gave him all the food he wanted - hamster & gerbil food, cooked egg, fresh apple, romaine lettuce, carrot, and apple. Astro ate all the time, but I guess it was too little, too late. We would have loved to have taken him to see a vet, but we didn't have the funds to spend on a little spiny mouse, much as it pains me to say.

Today he had his head half into a cardboard tube, and his body on it's side, chest heaving. He had never shown any interest in the tubes, so I think he was trying to take himself off to die. I couldn't let him die alone, so I picked him up, and after a few minutes of spasms and wheezing, it was over. I felt the moment his little body went still. I had tears rolling down my face, and I'm still a bit teary. I'm just glad he died in "his hand", as he thought of it.

16 Year Old Cat Needs A Home - URGENT!! [17 Jun 2005|11:42am]

This is so sad...this girl is giving up her cat because it sheds and has accidents outside of the litter box. If she isn't adopted within a month, she's going to have her put to sleep.

Please read...crosspost...anything.

She's located in NE Ohio, but transports can be arranged, so please don't let the distance scare you.

Sex: Female
Date of birth: 4/1/1989

EDIT: This girl is apparently only a troll and is not intending to give up her cat. She's just a moron looking for attention in any form she can get (and seeing her journal now, its quite obvious this girl just loves attention). So just ignore this. Ignore [info]cookiecache. She needs to grow up.

There are maybe 120 possibly 150 animals from a horrible situation needing help. They are currently in the very over filled Hamilton County Humane Educational Society. These are links to the story and the last one will take you to a summary of the story and a link to the Hamilton County Humane Educational Society webpage and a phone number to call.

Stewie Update [07 Jun 2005|06:40pm]

jaguar_mysts
[ mood | blah ]

He's a bit less of a cuddler now, I think it's because he feels more cared for and secure. He makes up for it by being playful. I've heard him dook quite a bit in the last few days too.

Stewie has stopped attacking the others out of jealosy, and he does scream less around them, except for Cubby. He is trying to be friends, but every time Cubby gets near him before we can stop her, she attacks him (now she's the jealous one!).
Sometimes we separate out Cubby and let her run upstairs and Stewie downstairs with Taz and Odie, and he's starting to get braver. He is almost able to do more than sniff bums or exchange stares.
I think he will settle in just fine with Blain's ferret (she's the one who might adopt him), providing her fuzzbutt is willing to be friends.

Yesterday I was going to take care of Brownie, a pitt bull, for my landlord. The dog is being cared for until we can relocate it, because it's owner was put in prision. So I give him food and water, and my husband waits in the car (I refuse to go out there alone cause the people that live there are mostly homeless. The dog is in a small pen in a little field with a few campers that some people live in, and a lot more tents)

So anyway, I'm taking care of Brownie and along shambles the dude that lives in teh camper next to his pen. He starts talking to my husband, and tells him that there's another pitt that's going to have Animal Controll called on it, in two weeks, because they're all getting tired of 'smelling it's shit' and gave the owner a notice. He warns me because they'll probably take Brownie too. Then he shows me the pitt in question.

She's a beautiful chocolate girl, tied under one of the campers. "A sweetheart" the man claims, so I go over to her. The first thing I notice is that they have her tied with HEAVY GRADE CHAIN. The stuff you'd hook to your truck to tow a car out of a ditch with. Her neck is raw and chaffed from it, and she rolls over on her back and cries when I bend to touch her. She's been abused, she was scared to death of me. I went and got a few treats from Brownie's things, and slowly got her to understand that I wasn't going to harm her. When she finally stood for me, I realized that what looked at a distance to just be coat coloration or perhaps dirt in her fur was, in fact, mange. Her entire hindquarters is completely eat up. At that point I told the guy that I WOULD find her a home, but the problem I have is getting her better. I can't afford to haul her to the vet, and if Animal Control comes to get her, she's going to be euthanised. This dog is in a VERY bad situation, tied under a camper with no real shelter, malnourished, abused...

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter has a python up for adoption. It doesn't specify what type of python, but from the picture and the animals markings it appears it could be a ball python.

Hi! I just found your community, and it looks great! I have three ferrets, Taz, Odie, and Cubby. My husband and I adopted them from the Alberta Ferret Society. We are volunteers with the group, and are about to get our first foster ferret, a little albino guy named Duey. I'll soon be posting pictures of him at our LJ community, [info]afscarpetsharks

There is a Flemish giant at the animal shelter where i volunteer. He or she is HUGE and such a sweetheart! I can't imagine someone giving him up.

If anyone is interested in this Flemish giant, or knows of someone who is, let me know, I'd be willing to transport him. I'm in the NYC vicinity, but can go to NJ, CT, eastern PA.

URGENT! THIS DOG WILL BE PUT DOWN TOMORROW!! PLEASE HELP!! [27 Apr 2005|05:23pm]

I'm cross posting this to anywhere relevant...I apologize if any of you see this multiple times.

HELP PLEASE!!

If you can't do anything, at least pass the word on or cross post this anywhere. Please.

Forwarded email:

Blake (dog 132) is a beautiful Shepherd mix (possibly Shepherd/Rotti) who has something wrong with his eyes. He is located at the SPCA in Georgetown, Delaware. The Vet Tech at the shelter is not sure what is wrong with Blake's eyes but thinks they are getting a little better with the eye drops he is currently getting. The shelter does not have the facilities to provide the vet care he needs. He has to go to rescue to be helped. Poor Blake was trying to open his eyes to see me but it was obviously hard to do. But despite his discomfort, he showed me what a sweet affectionate fellow he is. He obviously enjoyed my petting him and wanted to be close. Blake was found as a stray. He appears to be about 45-50 pounds.

If you can help Blake, please contact Diane at 302 684-1049 or dkrescue@netzero.com (netzero.com) or me at rain.tyler@mchsi.com (mchsi.com) as soon as possible.

Thank you,

HELP! [27 Apr 2005|12:50pm]

elvish_rose
[ mood | sad ]

Not sure if this is allowed here, but I am in desperate need of help.

I've had to make the very hard decision to give up my dog. I simply do not have the time and energy neccessary for him. When we adopted Sirius from The Chicago Animal Society, we were told he was a lab. As he's grown, it's become fairly obvious that he is no labrador... he's a border collie, which is a much higher energy dog than we were prepared for. I gave Sirius to a friend who lived nearby who said she wanted to train him in agility, etc. However, now she can no longer keep him either because one of her other dogs starts fights with him.

I have no money to simply turn him in to another shelter. And even if I did, the only no-kill shelters around here have waiting lists a mile long. The longer I wait, the worse it will be for him.

Here's his bio.

Sirius is about 18 months old and is a border collie mix (probably with a little lab or golden).
We adopted him in December of 2003 from Chicago Animal Control. He had been found in an abandoned house with his sister when they were about four months old. The shleter called him Moody, but we renamed him Sirius after the Sirius Black character from Harry Potter. He was immeidately enrolled in Petsmart's obedience class and did exceptionally well.

The problem arose when I finally got a job again and have been working five-six days a week. He spends all day tied up in the yard (I've never seen him jump the fence, but he probably could if he tried) and all night in the crate. When I come home from work, I barely have enough energy to feed him let alone play with him. He has almost no mental stimulation, and he really needs it. The kids don't want to play with him because he jumps (they are used to cats, so even the littlest jump on Sirius' part tends to freak them out).

He is a very sweet dog who needs some time and patience. He likes other playful/tolerant dogs and seems to want to play with cats. The dog who he is having problems with now is a rather high-strung terrier and the terrier's owner has admitted that it's not Sirius who starts the fights.

He is crate-trained and will do basic obedience commands (sit, down, stay), though his excitement sometimes keeps him from obeying promptly. He loves kids and wants to be rough and tumble with them.

Picture from when we first brought him home...

Pictures from last Halloween...

Can anyone help me find a home for him?

Save Wild Horses!!!! [22 Apr 2005|06:56pm]

Your urgent action is needed in order to immediately halt the slaughter
of
America's wild horses and burro's!

Yesterday, 6 wild horses who were sold by the BLM on April 15th under
the
Burns amendment, were discovered to have been tragically slaughtered at
the
Cavel International horse slaughter plant in DeKalb, IL on April 18th.

Please take the following steps TODAY to help us stop the round-up,
sale and
slaughter of these magnificent animals.

1) Please contact the Secretary of the Interior; Gale Norton urging her
to
stop the round ups and sale of wild horses and burro's until there is a
way to
ensure NO wild horses are slaughtered in light of what just happened.

2) Call and write Senator Burns expressing your outrage at the
slaughter of
our countries wild horse heritage due entirely to his amendment which
has
stripped these animals of
protection from the greed of commercial interests. Senator Burns is
already
trying to dismiss this as a "small accident" that won't happen again.
We must
NOT let him off the hook!!

3) Contact your legislators and urge them to co-sponsor the American
Horse
Slaughter Prevention Act (HR 503) which will protect both wild and
domestic
horses from slaughter.
In addition, urge them to co-sponsor HR 297 and S 576 which will
reinstate
protection for wild horses.
