I went to Derby today to attend the opening of the Derby Learning Centre.

Present at the opening was the Minister for Higher Education – Alan Johnson MP, also previous GS of CWU.  Simon Walker – Branch Secretary of Derbyshire Amal has done a great job working with Trish Lavelle and also Lynne Wilson – General Area Manager East Midlands Royal Mail has done a great job. 

Mick Arnott, MRE and others were also in attendance.

Bob Laxton MP, CWU “Constituency supported” was also present.

It’s good to see the advert on page 3 of today’s Guardian urging people to use their vote to stop the fascist BNP.

On page 19 of the Guardian I noticed an article on BT’s decision to transform network which made interesting reading.

Today I attended the formal sign off agreement between the CWU and EOC.

The co-ordination of the agreement was organised by Grace Mitchell, Assistant Secretary.  In attendance for the EOC was Wendy Foulger - Director, Caroline Slocock - Chief Executive.  In attendance for the CWU was Grace Mitchell, Jim Moher, Chris Proctor, Linda Brodie and Janet Mather.

There was a formal launch of the agreement, see full story for my remarks.  There is a fringe meeting at Annual Conference on this.

It has been a great day for the Union.

Attended a free concert organised by Unite to speak on the work of Unite Against Fascism.

The venue was the Liverpool Students Union; the best group I ever saw was there - Principle Edwards Magic Theatre; this time I listened to Badly Drawn Boy and a new band called The Music. Jane Loftus,CWU NEC member, and Chris Tapper, Divisional Representative was also there.
