State Of The Mind: pleased
Noise: David Gates - Never Let Her Go

I made *four* postcards last night. Very pleased.:)

Sammy and I already had our big fight for the day, so that's out of the way. *half-smile*

Tired. But feeling more together mentally than I have in a while. Maybe my meds have *really* kicked in. The pill box definitely helps, 'cause I stock it with four doses and take it as soon as I feel able to swallow non-liquids in the morning.

I know, I'm being bad about communication. I think that will improve though.

We're going to Sesame Place next Monday through Wednesday. I'm marking the days off the calendar, so Sammy won't ask if we're going *today* every five minutes. We count the days together the first time she asks, then I point to the squares and she counts the other times. She hasn't asked at all today. Maybe she's remembering from yesterday.:)

Argh! Why do I *do* this to myself? Why do I put off doing something that makes me remarkably happy and proud to do things I think I should? No one is demanding I do this stuff...I just figure it's more important than my art.

It damn well isn't. There are things that are more important than making stuff...but only a few of them, and none of them include organizing *anything*.

I can't watch movies without IMDB any longer!

Well, I can but it kind of drives me crazy. 'Cause there's always someone in there who's...you know...that guy, who was in that one movie with Humphrey Bogart, no, not *that* movie, the one where he's a gangster! (And, of course, the older the movie, the more difficult it is to remember) When Mum and I were watching a movie and we couldn't figure out who the guy was, we'd often call Nan. And then later I'd mail Mum...and I still do, but there's stuff even *she* doesn't know about movies (Sorry Mum! I promise, I won't tell anyone else. *Grin*).

Which is why putting a dvd drive in Dragon enhanced my movie experience tenfold. (Yay, more reasons to be at my 'puter. ;) Now I can have the IMDB window open while watching the film and just ctrl-tab to it when I'm wondering.

Yeah, I'm completely sad. But hey, at least I know it.

Oh...the reason this entry came about? I'm watching Butterflies Are Free and knew the owner of the funky store from *somewhere*. Turns out he's Michael Warren who was also in Days Of Our Lives, Hill Street Blues, Storyville and other picture postcards.

An Illinois-based theater chain, GKC Theatres, has begun issuing special "R-Cards" to teenagers, which allows them to see R-rated movies, ABC News reported Tuesday. In order to receive one of the cards, an adult guardian must come to the box office, fill out a form in which they say they approve of the teenager's attending an R-rated film, and pay a $2 fee. But outgoing MPAA President Jack Valenti has expressed opposition to the cards, saying: "I think it distorts and ruptures the intent of this voluntary film ratings system. All R-rated films are not alike." (From here, third from the top)

Well Jack, that's true. Of course, not all teenagers are alike either. But I guess that's beside the point.

Hulk director Ang Lee could disappoint gay fans by cutting the homosexual kiss between hunky actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger from his latest film Brokeback Mountain. The Day After Tomorrow star Gyllenhaal has confessed that he has had homosexual crushes and is willing to snog Ledger - but Lee is anxious about filming the explicit parts of Annie Proulx's novel about two cowboys who fall in love. Gyllenhaal reveals, "We were talking about the kissing in the movie just recently. Clearly, it's pretty challenging material, but Ang said two men herding sheep was far more sexual than two men having sex on screen." (From here, third from the bottom)

People just say the oddest things.

Ya know...she *is* named Sammy for a reason. *Grin*

Well, no. (and yes) I decided I was going to name my first daughter Sammy when I was about eighteen, because I loved Sammy Hagar and *really* liked the idea of a little girl named Sammy. So, about half of each. :)

We started out calling her Sammy, but that quickly became Sam. Though we usually call her 'Mantha (don't know why, it just happened). She, on the other hand, has decided that she wants to be Sammy. (That's how she puts it. "No Mama. I jus' want to be Sammy!") So, we're working on that. I think she wants to be called Sammy because she can *spell* Sammy. Yes, I know, she can spell Sam too. But just *try* telling her that. She just looks at me like I'm nuts...they're two different names, after all.

But someone needs to do *something* about the clothing these poor dears are wearing. Oy.

My hair's finally long enough to put a hair stick in again. Yay! (well, I've been using them around the house, but they had a tendency to slide around a bit, which drives me nuts when I'm out) Now I know exactly how long to keep my hair...or at least how short to not have it.

And I remembered to take my pills today, all by myself. I'm all grown-up now. *Grin*

*looks at doughnut and doritos* Well. somewhat. I'm drinking loads of water though.:) (And we actually have soda around...this isn't a desperation drink) We used to have a *BIG* container in the fridge with water in it...it's a long rectangle with a handle on the top and a spout on the front. It was great. But then we needed the space for food...and I find we've been drinking about half the water we used to because the really cold stuff isn't available. So, while I was at Target last night (needed two more storage thingies for my stamps and such), I found a pair of liter bottles with pop off-caps (that are tethered to the top of the bottle) ...I filled them and stuck 'em in the fridge before I went to bed. If Jeff's home we can each have one and if he isn't, I can drink one then refill it and drink the other while the first is cooling. (And I'm sure you're all thrilled to hear about this. *grin*)

We went to see Shrek2 yesterday...I think I actually liked it more than the original. And thank you to [info]davehogg for the tip about staying till the credits are over. I definitely second the motion. We came in after the previews started and Sammy was *not* thrilled with the Harry Potter trailer and wanted to leave. But we reassured her that it wasn't the movie, just a commercial and once it was over she was happy again. There were a few parts near the beginning when she was bored, but she did *really* well. And I have renewed my love for matinees, especially weekday ones. There were enough people in the theatre that it didn't feel like we were sitting in a cave, but we weren't on top of one another either. Very cool.

My newest addiction is Kingdom Of Loathing. It's far too silly and I like it very much.

[info]girly_grrl is posting! Yay! (And another comes over to the dark lj side)

I've got about a thousand things to do (including the dreaded l*ndry, which, I must say, I actually like doing. Sad, huh?;) so I shall start. With frequent breaks to check my friends list. *grin*

"I believe that the president's leadership in the actions taken in Iraq demonstrate an incompetence in terms of knowledge, judgment and experience in making the decisions that would have been necessary to truly accomplish the mission without the deaths to our troops and the cost to our taxpayers." --House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

One of the Emperor's particularly nasty minions, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, responded:

"Nancy Pelosi should apologize for her irresponsible, dangerous rhetoric. She apparently is so caught up in partisan hatred for President Bush that her words are putting American lives at risk." (Source: CNN)

That's right, folks, it's now official: criticize our pResident and you are endangering American lives.

But a better president than Dubya said this:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." --Theodore Roosevelt, 1918

Everyone who is so inclined, write down that Roosevelt quote on a postcard (or order a packet from [info]eleri's Cafe Press store) and send it to the House Majority Leader at either of the following addresses:

The Hon. Tom DeLay
242 Cannon HOB
Washington, DC 20515

The Hon. Tom DeLay
Office of the House Majority Leader
H-107 The Capitol
Washington, DC 20515

And send an "attagirl" to Rep. Pelosi at:

Rayburn House Office Building
Room # 2371
Washington, D.C. 20515

Then post this info in your journal and see if we can generate a big, fat reminder that dissent and criticism are not treason.

Feeling better. Would feel much better if Sammy-induced awakening hadn't happened at quarter to five this morning.

I keep telling myself that I'm going to get us on a loose schedule, do much the same thing at much the same time every single day. And it *seriously* doesn't happen. It only bothers me when I'm tired or hopeless. Thank goodness today is tired.

We get things done...maybe I'll start by designating days rather than hours. Like the old "Monday - laundry, Tuesday - baking" and so on. That would work. Especially since I want to start baking again. ('Cause, you know, when it gets warmer, that's the time to bake your own bread.;)

Still looking very forward to the pool opening at the end of the month. I plan to spend time in the big pool with Sammy, but they've also got a fenced off kiddie pool (that's rawther big) that has chairs and such around it and that's where I'm planning on spending most of our time. I might even be able to read a page now and then. Though, I've been a mama long enough that I'm not counting on it.

My brain just went flat, so I guess that means I should send this and go do something else.

NBC is apparently taking a more active interest in PAX-TV, the last-place network in which it holds a 32-percent stake. According to Crain's New York Business, NBC has been helping the so-called family network develop a lineup of new shows that will be true to the spirit of founder Bud Paxson's vision of a broadcast network that offers an alternative to the sex and violence presented on the major nets, while at the same time attracting a larger audience. For example, among a number of reality shows that will be produced in the fall season, will be one featuring a houseful of people trying to quit smoking.

Oh. Well, yeah. I'll definitely tune into a show filled with people trying to quit smoking. :b

"Don't compare pain, it doesn't do any good and will probably hurt someone in the end."

I've said that, in a zillion different ways, for years. And I definitely believe it. Something occurred to me today though. No one's tempted to compare joys in the same way (Well, at least in my experience). When people share joy, each person's contribution is celebrated and isn't thought to be diminishing anyone else. Why are we allowed to be happy but not sad, angry or in pain?

Of course, living in a society where happiness is celebrated (and often forced), anger and sadness are suppressed and pain is something to get over, I almost understand. But I still don't really get it.

So, what do y'all think?

counted, please sign up on our website at http://www.marchforwomen.org under
"Count Me In." Encourage all of your friends who came to do the same. We
must continue to show our strength.
