This delicious site has information on the trips that Elias Lönnrot, compiler of the Kalevala, took into the Kainuu region of Finland to collect the oral poetry he stitched together into the Finnish national epic. Illustrations of Kalevala may be found here and here. You can look at engravings and sketches of the Finnish countryside from the late 19th century.  • more

Organizers of the Busan Scooter Scavenger are proud to announce that the first every Rally will be held on July 25th...The Scooter Scavenger event challenges teams of two people to navigate throughout the city and find ten historical or cultural sites. Upon arriving at the sites the teams will have to walk, run or climb there way to monuments, statues or relics and have their pictures taken. • more

My hero Christopher Hitchens is a writer and political mind that rarely keeps still. Once upon a time he was a leftist in the style of Chomsky but has shifted somewhat to the right, supporting Bush, the incursions into the Iraq and has become an US citizen.
