more left out a couple things from the other day. Went down to TGI Fridays in the Radisson where we stay in Austin to eat dinner with the crew. We sat down and 45 minutes later our food finally came. I guess from what our waiter says, the kitchen had a bunch of inexperienced cooks and they were just screwing up the orders left and right. Anyway we got our meal finally and they gave us 50% off the sticker price so that made it a little less painful.
Weather in Austin was kinda ugly. 2 miles visibility and overcast. with another successful landing.
Followup on the Jump Seat ordeal. Turns out that the pilot asked for the name of the crew on the plane and actually called our hotel that night to complain more about the horrible treatment that he received! This is really out of line on this guys part! For him to cause this much commotion is uncalled for. Like I said before, the jump seat is a privilege NOT a right. This guy really needs to check his attitude SOMEWHERE. This guy will never sit on my jump seat.
Tonight I got an overnight at home. Salt Lake so I get to go home and eat a good home cooked meal with the family.
Had some good weather in Salt for landing! A 30MPH crosswind landing. And nailed it, if I do say so myself.
Let's see. 2 legs tomorrow...SLC to Phoenix then El Paso overnight. Should be uneventful! |

Today First day of a 4 day trip and lots of stories. The Round trip to San Jose went basically without a hitch except for the Captains clock on the flight deck needed to be replaced because it would not reset. That was taken care of and off we went to SJC. Had a 2 hour sit in SJC and I got a tasty jumbo burrito. Ok, Here is a little info on pilot jumpseating. As pilots we are able to go up to any airline and if there is an open seat we can, with the flight crews permission, hitch a free ride. This is used mainly for commuting to and from work however, it is a great way to go anywhere for free. When you jump seat on another airline you are using a privilege not a right! You need to be very careful and be appreciative of the individuals giving you the ride. This includes the flight attendants as well as the pilots. I have never encountered an ungrateful pilot using my jumpseat. Until today. We were about 10 minutes prior to push time and we get a jumpseat request from a Southwest pilot. We are happy to take him to Austin and the Captain signs the form. A few minutes later the Flight attendant brings the pilots ID badge to us to approve access to the flight deck. We look at the ID and give it back to the flight attendant. She was doing her job by protecting the flight deck. When the flight attendant brought the ID back to the Southwest pilot he grabbed it back and said, "I have never been treated so rudely, I do not want the ride I will ride on Southwest". I guess he was offended that the flight attendant was doing her job by protecting the flight deck and asking her pilots to check the ID before she allowed him access. The pilot was not dressed in a pilot uniform and she just wanted to make sure we approved before she allowed him access to the flight deck. I was shocked by the attitude of the jumpseater. I guess there will always be individuals that will never be happy and must get hostile when they are questioned. With the security of airlines these days I am shocked by the actions of this pilot we encountered today. Hope tomorrow is a little more quiet. Current Mood: tired |

Retreating Making some progress on the return to OS 9 on my "old" MAC 8500 desktop. I have found that anytime I try to access the video of the 8500 it freezes. I need to call Sonnet and ask them if there are any known issues with the processor card and the built in video. I was hoping to get my webcam back on line after returning to OS9. Now I run smack dab into this video problem.
House is back on the market...Hopefully going to move to Phoenix THIS time.!!!
I am starting a 4 day trip tomorrow early...0745am... show time. Fly a round trip to San Jose and back, then overnight in Austin, TX. Spend Saturday Night in Salt Lake City and Sunday Night in El Paso. yee haa. |

Not again. This morning I woke up with a sore throat! I BETTER NOT be getting sick again after 6 weeks of the crap in December and January!
I am suppose to start a trip Thursday overnighting in Ontario, CA - Santa Ana, CA - and Tucson, AZ on Saturday night. Might have to go play a little trivia at the TGIFridays across the street from the Viscount Suite Hotel. That is of course unless I call in sick! Arrrggghhhhh! |

Bus 58! Grrrr. I just wrote 3 paragraphs of journal and iJournal quit on me so now I have to type it all in again!! Grrrr
So I am in Oakland, CA today and I decide to take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) over to San Francisco to do some people watching and get some exercise. I walk out of the hotel and hop on bus #58 to the BART station. Then ride BART train to San Francisco. All is great, I do a little people watching and buy "The Wedding Singer" DVD at Virgin records.
I get back on BART to go back then hop on bus #58. Well that is where things go bad. I did not know that there is 2 different #58 buses! One goes to the airport and one goes to McArthur. It just so happens my 50-50 goes the wrong way. About 20 minutes later after I realize the bus is not going to turn back to the airport I get off and cross the street and hop on the "airport" version of #58. What an ordeal.
Public transportation sure attracts a lot of idiot people. There were fat people singing to their walkmans, School girls screaming and yelling, and obnoxious people trying to push their views onto you from the war to religion.!
One thing I did notice on my Oakland "tour" is that there are a lot of beauty salons and nail shops. Move to Oakland...Open a beauty salon!
Tomorrow:
Oakland to Phoenix to Houston, TX to Phoenix then home to Salt Lake. Gonna do some skiing with some friends over the next few days. |
8:56 pm |
Schedule Today: Mexico City to Phoenix to Oakland...
You just have to love the view of the High Sierras over Half Dome at 35,000 feet! A quick snapshot with San Fransisco, Alkatraz, and the Golden Gate bridge in the background.

Feb 1 2003 First let me just start with a moment of silence for the Shuttle crew and especially Rick Husband. Also let me say that I know they all loved being part of the space program. It is not a lost cause when you die doing what you love. Today I had a round trip flight to Manzanillo, Mexico. I took a few pictures in memory of Rick and the crew.... A picture of the resort just south of Manzanillo. A picture of the Manzanillo airport on final approach. Sorry for the haze. I did the best I could to clean it up in photoshop.
A shot taxiing in to the terminal.

GEEK!!! Here I am at the local KINKOS downloading iPhoto (33.3mb) and iMovie (84.5mb) on a Friday night...What an idiot I am. They have a T1 line here and thought it would go faster however I think the Apple server is very busy since it looks to be taking about 20 minutes to d/l 33mb. Kinda slow for T1 Line speed. Guess I will email some friends.
P.S. So that you do not categorize me in the 100% geek column, I had a couple pages to laminate at KINKOS so my whole purpose was not to come and d/l on a Friday night but also to laminate. It was a large portion of the reason though. eh uh

life improvement So after 2 1/2 years on line, I finally have enough seniority to hold a line of flying next month. Let me just say that I have been waiting for this for a long time. Getting off reserve is soooo Gooooood. Being on reserve = having no life. I now know where and when I am going. I have 4, 4-day trips. I overnight in Mexico City, Salt Lake City, Orange County, El Paso, Oakland, Ontario, CA, Tucson, Austin, and Minneapolis. Plus I get 13 days off. Life is getting better.
The only thing is i do not know if I will be able to hold a line in March. Lets hope so! |
6:10 pm |
file transfer Ok, My web cam is down due to the lack of a webcam software app that will work in OSX since I upgraded to OSX on the desktop that is running my webcam. To boot. Interarchy crashes when I start it up, so I cannot even transfer a file to update the cam image manually!!! Ahhhhhhh

Ah Shucks It seems that my new superfast G4 processor does not get along with "sitecam", my favorite webcam software. I do not know what I will do. I guess go on a search for a new webcam software. Maybe I will try to get in touch with the makers of sitecam and the manufacturer of the Processor upgrade. DARN!

Visits Was out in LA for a couple days and slept on chuckvideo's new hide-a-bed. It was quite comfortable. Spent about 3 hours at the Glendale court DIV 5 because I am suing the City of Glendale $5000.00 for damage to my office building sewer line. The Judge is going to rule on it later today. That city if Glendale sure knows how to screw the public. Current Mood: agitatedCurrent Music: Pictures Of You-Oingo Boingo-Good For Your Soul |

Nice View! Today the Space Shuttle lifted off from the gravity of Earth to start a 16 day mission. The commander of the mission is Rick Husband the brother of a pilot friend of mine. Park Bench Did some Before/After benchmarking with the new 700mhz processor. Photoshop 6.0 loaded in 37 seconds, now loads in 20 seconds Quicken 2002 loaded in 31 seconds, now loads in 11 seconds Internet Explorer loaded in 18 seconds, now loads in 5 seconds. I would say that it was worth the investment. along with booting a whole lot faster. I did not time that but I would say it shaved off a good 1/3. Have not experienced any program conflict problems as of yet. Going to add 256megs of RAM tomorrow so I can load OSX on the machine. Ah you ask, how can I put OSX on a machine that is not supported by Apple? Well it is possible to do it with the new G4 Processor. Although I will not be able to run SiteCam under OSX. I should check to see if there is an OSX version.

Re-Born Let me just start off with the following: I am very skeptical when it comes to adding 3rd party upgrades to Apple computers. Especially processors! Apple is very proprietary in design and philosophy. This makes it difficult for 3rd party entities to manufacture reliable upgrades. With that said, I took the leap of faith yesterday and ordered a processor upgrade for my aging 8500/120 machine. I Removed and installed the
old processor with the new processor. I still had reservations when the machine booted up and it was running extremely F-A-S-T! I am very satisfied with the Sonnet Cresendo/G4 700MHZ Processor upgrade with 1mb backside cache. *huge sigh of relief* Current Mood: relievedCurrent Music: Something New-Cause & Effect-Another Minute |

Officer I was not expeeding the seed limit. Listening to iTunes and installing the new processor for my slow...soon-to-be-fast Powermac 8500 tower. This little Beast will make my life a little faster along with my 8500/120. Now I will be blazing at 700MHZ with 1MB of Backside cache (whatever that means).
