All Politics
Ex-GOP Consultant Pleads Guilty to Phone-Jamming. The purpose? To keep voters from calling Dem headquarters for rides to the polls. Sleazy.
Quitter Jack Ryan's campaign will refund donors. He's raised $1.5M since the primary, but he has to pay bills and staff first.
TX House Dems want to impeach Gov. Perry on corruption charges. Something about pesky lottery funds going to private firms. Feh.
Mass. lawmakers, fighting back like Republicans, don't want Republican guv Mitt Romney to appoint a successor to Kerry if he wins the WH in November. Kerry's term as senator ends in 2008. "Heaven forbid the governor gets to make an appointment" said Republican rep George Peterson. Damn straight.
CT gets a new governor after the last one (a Republican) quit amid corruption allegations and impending impeachment.
The Reverend Sun Myung Moon's "Washington Times" says Commerce secretary Don Evans urged to run for TX governor. Urged by whom? "Unnamed GOP source" says the paper. My magic 8-ball says "No". Don't these people have any political instincts? Ask me first! I'd be more than happy to tell you how the political winds are blowing.
Add-ons
John Kerry is being sued for heresy! Because of his "pro-abortion" stance, apparently, he's doing harm to other Catholics. It will never end, I tell ya.
According to ABC's The Note, Matt Drudge! Matt Drudge! has only a 37.8% accuracy rate.
Howard Stern says he'll "work like a dog" to urge his listeners to vote for Kerry.
No link, but Pete Sessions will air the first commercials in his race against Martin Frost, according to "The Dallas Morning News". The ads start this week on a few cable stations, no broadcast outlets. Frost calls the ads "empty".

Wednesday Leftovers
If you read the RSS 2.0 feed of this site, I made some changes to the template to include the entire entry with comments and trackbacks. I don't know if I'll keep it this way, but I think it looks better.
A blanket "You're welcome" to all the thank-yous I received for doling out Gmail invites. I still have several on the list to get to, but as soon as I get them, I'll pass them along.
Hump Day Madness
Well, surprise, surprise! Your Supremeness Clarence Thomas agreed with the majority to bar enforcement of the Internet porn law. Long Dong Silver lovers can now rest easier. Of course, the fine folks at the Family Research Council are "disappointed that Justice Clarence Thomas was on the wrong side of this decision."
Nah, our military isn't stretched too thin! When they have to call up over 5,000 from the Ready Reserve, things aren't looking that great. Slate's "Explainer", um, explains it all for us. Kerry calls it a "backdoor draft", which, of course, it is.
Tax cut? Spending cut? Republicans get all bipolar over the state of the government.
Your headline from The Dallas Morning News website: "What Causes High Water?" Gee, I don't know...too much rain, maybe? By the way, if I hear the media compare the Six Flags closure from flooding to "a white-water raft ride" one more time...
Quote, Unquote
From the Chronicle's interview with Kiki and Herb (on what to do at their show): "The audience should just take drugs. When we started in San Francisco, the first year and a half we did the show we took mushrooms every week in the cab ride on the way to the restaurant. But, like bestiality, I'm not encouraging or discouraging it."
David Sedaris via Gawker on an audience members' question as to why there are so many funny gay people: "Just so everyone heard that question, she asked me, 'is there a relationship between me putting a penis in my mouth and being witty at a dinner party?' "

One Big Post to Cover it All
We are all special cases.

Thoughts on gmail: It's just email, stipped down and simple. Keyboard shortcuts are cool (o for open, c to compose), archiving is good if you want to keep stuff but get it out of your in-box. I love the interface, it uses java-scripting to update, and, knock on wood...no spam so far. By the way, to all the people I've promised invites to, I haven't received any lately. They seem to have slowed down on the invites, but when I get some, I'll let you know.
I like the concept of collecting a bunch of links on the net and aggregating them into one page which you can then email to friends, etc. Amplify is supposed to do just that. Not supported on Mac or Linux yet.
