America's War With Blogistan

Wired revisits Markos Moulitsas Zuniga and the growing influence of blogging, with a possible free plug to Xian<
Wired> A violent squall sprang up in Blogistan earlier this year over comments made by a wonkish blogger named Markos Moulitsas Zuniga of the Daily Kos. He typed something impolitic about four contractors in Falluja, Iraq, whose charred, mutilated corpses made for a perverse photo-op on the front page of The New York Times, as well as leading the news on CNN. The dead men weren't there on orders, Moulitsas, a military vet, pointed out. They weren't there to rebuild Iraq. "They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them." read more>

A new social scene

Another teen does blog piece from a publication that should do better. If only they were around when I was younger....
SiliconValley.com>Seventeen-year-old Patrick Ly was so smitten with a certain classmate that he would visit an Internet blogging site to read his crush's musings. Then Patrick began to keep an online journal himself. He chronicled his day, wrote about friends and related how he was feeling. And one day last September, he used the blog to announce to readers that he is gay. read more>

Kerry-Edwards official

kerry.jpg
Rather than continue to read the speculation I'll try to be amongst the first to break it: Its official Edwards is Kerry's running mate, in an email to supporters today:
"In just a few minutes, I will announce that Senator John Edwards will join me as my running-mate on the Democratic ticket as a candidate for vice president of the United States. Teresa and I could not be more excited that John and Elizabeth Edwards will be our partners in our journey to make America stronger at home and respected in the world. "
And as I write this its not even on the Kerry website yet!

The blogging cover-up

Interesting commentary asking whether bloggers with political credentials can or will be compromised.
News.com>Web logs have done more to spark opinion-sharing than anything since the creation of the Internet. But is this new vehicle of unconstrained expression fated to come under the thumb of the powers that be? read more>

Wanted: people who have stopped using MT

Duncan Riley> our first wanted ad! I'm putting together a little project yet to be officially named (and I'm not giving away too many hints at this stage) and I’m looking for people who have stopped using MT for blogging and are now using other stand alone blogging platforms, such as WordPress, PMachine and similar.
I'm no Denton or Calacanis, so there's no pot of money for contributing, only the glory of free promotion and seeing your words and face on a new website. I need your story about changing, the positives, and preferably a picture of yourselves, and naturally your blogs details. Your content may be shortened or used in extract when published but your words will not be changed, and each story published will include a link to your blog. So start writing, tentative launch date is 2 weeks so start sending them to editor@blogherald.com. Also anybody wishing to contribute tech guides or review guides on non MT blogging platforms I'd like to here from you!
cheers
Duncan.

Questions for Gawker Media Publisher Nick Denton

CLickz Q&A; profiles Nick Denton
Clickz> "....Blogs will get their fair share of Internet advertising, and probably more than that, because they attract a particularly influential audience. But the reason I've been skeptical is because blogs are still in their infancy. Drudge Report alone probably gets more traffic than all the top 100 blogs put together. Web properties such as Daily Candy and Flavorpill have done a much better job so far of packaging up an audience for advertisers. So everyone should just cool it, produce great entertainment, and let compound growth work its magic. Marketers are much more impressed by numbers than by hype..."

What not to do when switching OS

Never let it be said that as editor of this blog, I am unable to make fun of myself!. Before leaving MT for greener pastures I decided to abandon Winblows and join the Linux world, something Ive been experimenting with and pondering for 2 years. Managed to get my documents saved with all my page templates but Email! Nope: backed up the pst file but forgot to burn it prior to reformatting the hard disk (or HDA as its now referred to) to install Mandrake Linux 10. So if you´ve sent me an email and I haven´t responded my apologies, as the last 7 years of emails where lost in one foul swoop: the moral of the story is not back up your email, it is Windows blows :-)
Postscript: After 5 wasted days and years of lost email Ive gone back to Windows. Have you ever tried installing software under Linux? Still a good few years off becoming a viable alternative.
