Summary: BEST DAYS OF YOUR LIVES ??

The Palme D'Or winner is always more interesting than the Oscar or BAFTA recipient, and 2003 is no different. Van Sant was one of the indie stars, who took the Hollywood shilling; so it's good to have him back.

Despite the subject matter, what stands out for me is the superb depiction of school days. It captures the boredom and angst so well. You watch with a sick feeling about what is to come, and the killing spree is handled with dignity and respect.

A return to form for Van Sant.
