Home, after only 9 hours at work. One good thing about when Bobby's off is that I can get out of there earlier than my normal 10p.

Fri, Dec. 3rd, 2004, 05:42 pm

Bobby, the daytime graphics guy, is off today. And every Friday for the rest of the month. Plus a week around Christmas. This means lots of days of getting my ass kicked. At least in theory.

This means having to do the graphics for the 5p, 6p, 9p and 10p. But today seems rather light. Matt usually produces the 9p on Thursdays and Fridays because Courtney is off. Matt is very light on the graphics. And today, the 6p and the 10p are being covered by two producers in training. They generally do other stuff most days. So I didn't get any graphics for the 6p and only two for the 10p and two for the 9p. But the 5p was hectic. I had several graphics to do, plus I had to figure out how to recreate some animated stuff for the Toy Test series Bonny is doing. And Jeni had some stuff on Hell Night for me to scan and pictures to send to Chyron. But I got it all done. Woo.

This is how it was the first week I had to actually do graphics, when it was just me. Only today, I'm refraining from kicking my own ass. I'm not freaking out or stressing or wanting to cry like that first week. I actually came in to work knowing that Bobby wasn't here, unlike the day he called in sick a few weeks ago.

Went to see [info]tnjade's dad this morning again. Woo for adjustments, poo for the soreness in my muscles from two adjustments in one week. But it's almost the weekend. I think [info]paleblueeyes and I are gonna try to go to the junkyard this weekend and to Spaghetti Warehouse on Sunday. Other than that, I need to clean my room. Badly. And start to work on getting wrapping paper for Christmas presents and figure out what we're going to do about decorations and what to do about presents since I've only got two people covered right now. I went all out on my parents, probably spending 4 times as much on them as I normally do for Christmas in general. I think I have maybe two people I want to get stuff for that are over the age of 10, though. I'm just so out of touch with any of the kids that I want to get presents for. It's sad. Maybe I'll just make sock monkeys for everyone!!

Jobs in Eyewitness News, Reminder and Additions

As I've said previously, Clear Channel Television Memphis Eyewitness News WPTY and WLMT are looking for several new employees. The following jobs are currently available. Information on applying for the positions can be found by going to our website at http://abc24.com/jobs.

News Promotions Producter - This job involves writing, shooting and editing nightside topical news promos. They're interested in stong writers, and from what I've heard, are more willing to train someone to shoot and edit how they want than how to write.

Part-Time Tape Editor - This job involves editing reporter raw footage, satellite feeds, network feeds, etc.

Part-Time Camera Operator - Camera operation for the daily news casts.

News Photojournalist - Must be able to operate camera, live trucks, and associated gear. Should have experience shooting and editing.

Reporter (2) - I think it's pretty obvious what reporters are supposed to do.

Meteorologist/News Reporter - Weekend weather person and some weekday reporting.

If you have any interest in any of these positions, or if you have any more questions, feel free to comment, email me, call me if you know how, etc. I'm willing to tell you whatever I know.

Dumbass Award Nomination Number 2

Today is payday, which is a wonderful thing. Since I canceled my direct deposit, I ran over to the bank after I got my check to, you know, deposit it and stuff. Apparently, I pulled too close to the stupid concrete pole next to the ATM. I saw it happen before it really did, and I knew it was coming but I couldn't stop in time. I popped off the side mirror on my car. When I got back into the parking lot at work, I went to roll my window up and it wouldn't go up all the way. I had to get Bobby to come outside and help me put the window up. Then I went in search of gaffer tape to try to tape the mirror to the car so that it could be somewhat usable. Lucky for me, we have a fabulous engineer by the name of Tony Manard. He helped me getto-rig the side mirror to my car using washers. Yay Tony!

If you feel like being a news graphic tonight, send me your best goofy grin with lossa teeth!

Mon, Nov. 29th, 2004, 01:26 pm

Oh, yeah, and the people I bought the new phone from emailed me today to tell me that they're sending out a replacement. Woot!

Mon, Nov. 29th, 2004, 01:17 pm

So after going to be early last night, I got up early (for me) today to take care of a few things.

I wanted to check in with the people at Sprint about whether or not the new phone with the broken mic was covered under some kind of warranty, like Mr Customer Service Man told me. They said no.

I went to the police sation to file a police report about the stolen money from my bank account. They said I can call this number tomorrow to get the report number, which I then have to give to the fraud lady at the bank so that they can get the video images to the police who can then show them to me to see if I recognize whoever did it. I'm just worried about this possibly having something to do with some crack-ass at the bank, and if it does, they can probably change the video image. Paranoia. Argh!

Then I went to the bank to change my pin number again. Safety is policy here. And once all this crap is done with, it's time to decide which other evil conglomerant I'll be giving my money to instead.

I was left with a lot more time that I'd intended to have, so I tried calling Sean to see about spending some quality time with his cell phone and writing down all of his numbers for him. But he wasn't at work and didn't answer his cell. He did, however, call me back, but by that time, I was hunting for food.

So I got lunch and then came in to work a little early to eat my lunch and write some emails and check LJ, not that I can't do that while I'm working, but still. I didn't have anything else to do. Wednesday, though, I'm going to see [info]tnjade's dad for an adjustment and then to the eye doctor to see how I'm doing with the contacts. Rah.

I think I'm in ramble mode again. Woot!

Mon, Nov. 29th, 2004, 10:20 am

Awake. Not really coherent. Things to do today before work. Several things to do today before work, like go talk to the cops. Woo.

Sun, Nov. 28th, 2004, 10:22 pm

I just officially won the dumbass of the year award. This weekend has just not been one for me, as far as my brain being functional goes. First the phone crap and now this.

Here's what happened. While wasting time today, waiting for Walmart to open, I went to Lowe's and bought a new lock for the back door. I was tinkering with the front door trying to see if we could replace the lock on it, since we don't have keys, and it has those buttons on it that keep the door from being opened from the outside. I must have pushed that and forgotten to unpush it, cause I ran to get some food, and when I came back, I couldn't get in the house. I'd just taken the keys in my pocket and left my phone at the house. And the new key to the backdoor. So I had to go to the gas station to call Laura and leave a whiney message about how I'm a freaking dumbass, begging her to come home. I was trying to figure out how to break in to the house when she got here and saved my stupid ass.

So now I'm safe and exhausted from only getting 3 hours of sleep this afternoon.

Got to bed about noon after the whole cell phone purchasing thing. Woke up at 3:25p and talked to [info]matrixx about meeting for lunch/dinner before [info]thaddius00 had to catch his flight back to VA. Took a shower and made it to Collierville in half an hour. Had a fun lunch with Kim, James, and Kim's mom which involved Kim drinking ketchup with a straw, writing things like "Julia loves pickles" on the wall and the beginning of the new Red Hat Club.

But now I must get in bed and make up for the three hours of sleep today.

Sun, Nov. 28th, 2004, 10:51 am

Ok, I'm officially back in business after waiting for Best Buy to open and buying a new damned phone. Fuckin shit. Whatever. I'll live. At least now I'm contactable.

Sun, Nov. 28th, 2004, 04:45 am

Well, this really sucks. So I have the new phone, but I can't use it because the mic doesn't work. Switched my service back to the old phone for the time being.

Tonight, I was showing Matthew (the owner of XYZ) pictures of the cats, and when I went to put the phone back in my pocket, I dropped it on the ground. No biggie, I've done it a thousand times before. But apparently this one did the trick. When I went to check the time later since I left my watch at home, the screen was all fucked up. So I turned it off and the back on, and now the screens are blank. I guess the phone gods are out to get me for mocking my stepfather for using a phone for a year with a broken screen. But I was just saying that I bought him a new one for Christmas a few years back to keep him from having to carry around a post-it with important numbers on it. So now, I can't use the new phone, and I can't call anyone on the old phone unless I have their numbers in my head. And I can't see the time or read or send text messages or tell who's calling me.

So, until further notice, no text messages. If you want to talk to me, you have to call me cause I can't call you unless you're [info]paleblueeyes. And if you call without leaving a message, I'll never know. If I can't get this taken care of, it really sucks, because this phone was going to be someone else's Christmas present.

Sat, Nov. 27th, 2004, 03:43 am

So the new phone seems to have a non-functional mic, which means everything works great but no one care hear me. Reminds me of the phone that jumped into the toilet.

Went out to [info]thaddius00's parent's house to meet up with him and [info]matrixx, where [info]thaddius00's parents fed me leftover Thanksgiving food. MMMmmm!

Then we went to some dive bar in Raliegh or something to see [info]andius_rex's band play. We spent the time writing notes to each other on napkins before deciding to go to Tracks.

At Tracks, we had cheese dip and drinks and ran into a bunch of people -- [info]shinywaistcoat, his g/f and one of their friends, Bo and Alli from Starbucks, Sam, [info]javahousejihad, and [info]bajazeus in from Cali. All in all, it was fun, but somewhere around 1:30a, the pain in my knee and shoulder started taking over, making me cranky and tired.

But now I'm home and it's definitely time to go sleepy-by.
