today is my 16th birthday.
my neighbor asked me at the bus-stop if it was true, sweet sixteen and never been kissed.
the bus came right then with excellent timing.
i am so not buying this whole big-deal-you're-sixteen thing. usually i'm all ITSMYBIRTHDAYLOOKATME but this year i basically kept quiet. interesting to see who remembers and who forgets. not always who you think it will be. absolutely nothing pivotal happened today and if you had asked me anytime in the past how i wanted my sixteenth birthday to be i would respond with bows and cakes and ribbons and my permit. none of that has happened and probably won't. and i don't even really care that much. perhaps the magic of birthdays has just...blown out and away?
nothing feels better than when people go out of their way though...cards, exclamations of happy birthday! from people i barely know or people i'm not so close to anymore, and balloons from girls at work were definitely the highlight of my day.
i'm off to study for history and biology. three more finals and i'm done with sophomore year.
not the ideal way to spend a birthday, but hey, once they're over, i will feel indescribably relieved.
summer is so so close.
