Does anyone in this community work for Ogilvy and Mather or Bozell? And if so, can you tell me a little bit about the internship programs there? Thanks in advance!

"The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyalaman" is scheduled to premiere tomorrow, July 18th, on the Sci Fi Channel.

However, there is controversy about the controversial documentary: Network Admits Lying About Filmmaker Bio, "The hoax was part of a "guerrilla marketing campaign" that went too far..." [Contains possible spoilers if you intended on watching the documentary!]

You can follow the hoax in the Sci Fi Channel Press Release Archive.

Do you think it went too far, or that it just seems unsuccessful?

    Are celebrity endorsements worth it?
"Stop listening to celebrities," he said. "They do what they do for money - that's all. I don't even know why you're listening to me. I've done commercials for both Coke and Pepsi. Truth is, I can't even taste the difference, but Pepsi paid me last, so there it is."

To anyone else interested in music in advertising (tv spots, network promotions, movie trailers, etc).

Most everyone should probably know about soundtrack.net. But adtunes has a good forum that is very helpful.

    Let's go to the movies.
Besides BMW's The Hire, now DKNY's series of films including Road Stories and, vaguely, American Express's Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman do you know of any other companies using obique product placement films? Do you think they're effective?

Interesting idea. Anyone with half a Quark would beat my ass. But in marker comps, I might give you punks a run for your money.

when i was young these commercials used to air from rodchester, ny.

these are hillarious and are consider cult classics by a few friends of mine, and a few people on the internet (after a google of his name).

i beleive they are from 1995/96. they are his best work. shortly after these commercials aired, jim hired another guy to go and talk for him. i heard it was because people were questioning his mental health. :)

a few days ago a good friend from back in the day discovered some videos of these old commercials. i though they were lost forever! i have mirrored them at work. If the bandwidth gets too heavy, I'll have to take them down :( (so please copy and mirror them if you want to distro)

imho this is his BEST work, watch this last :D or if your only going to check out one, make sure its this heheh.

i wish all tv commercials had the intensity of this man.

last i heard jim shapiro lost his license to practise in ny after trying to represent a comatose patient without permission (lol!)

    Hi all,

Was wondering if people could give their opinion(s) on a company I've started called Jampacks. Essentially advertisers have the opportunity to sponsor a complilation CD of up and coming bands which are handed out free at their shows, giving the sponsor street cred. I've gotten great response thus far within the industry but was wondering what the best approach would be in terms of reaching the right people at ad agencies.

We're also offering music consulting for broadcast producers.

    Thanks!

How can you tell if the ad industry is truly for you?
You excitedly thank someone for asking for a campaign with less than 24 hours development time. And you mean it.

    Damn, I love this industry.
