Hi! I'm April. I'm 22, originally from Astoria, Oregon, now residing in Ashland, Oregon. I'm a junior at Southern Oregon University, a double major in French and art (graphic design emphasis); my minor is applied multimedia. And this is my text-intensive profile.
Before you add me, you should know the following things:
--I'm a liberal, especially when it comes to gay rights. If you think homosexuality is evil, this probably isn't the place for you. I'm a Christian (Episcopalian to be exact) but I don't believe in using religion as an excuse for denying the basic rights of other human beings.
--I also believe in political correctness. I'm particularly upset at the usage of derogatory phrases such as, "That's retarded," or, "That's gay," to describe something one doesn't like. I cannot stand that sort of thing, and if you're fond of saying such, again, this probably isn't the place for you.
--I can't stand when people tAlK lIkE dIz, u Kn0? It's a headache. If you do, please don't add me. Thank you.

--The story behind my username is: My name is April, I was inspired by the Counting Crows song title 'Anna Begins' and I made the change (from my old username, gillyholia) on April 1st. Simple enough.
--I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian. No, I don't eat chicken or fish; those are meat too, in my opinion anyway.
--I'm prone to obsession with my favorite celebrities. My top two are Clay Aiken and Gillian Anderson.

Oh the cuteness! The world record holder in the 100m butterfly (50.76), he also swam faster than his own record during his leg of the 4x100 men's relay (an amazing 50.2) in Athens... unfortunately, instead of getting much attention for that, he was continuously asked how it felt to have been given the spot in that relay by Michael Phelps. But I love both guys, and I'm sure Michael is as sick of being asked about it as Ian is.
Anyway! Ian! Ian is 22 from Maine, wonderfully down-to-earth and someone that you love to root for.

I was born April Lyn Marquet on April 30, 1982, at Lemoore Naval Base in Lemoore, California, with twelve fingers, twelve toes and partially webbed feet. Two years later, my brother Gabriel Thomas Marquet (Gabe) was born. My childhood was spent in Washington, Oregon and California, mostly Astoria, Oregon. My parents announced they were getting divorced when I was in 6th grade and I moved with my mother back to Astoria while my brother stayed with my dad.
High school was when I had obsessions with Beavis and Butt-head, The X-Files and Gillian Anderson. I played softball, was a cheerleader and a mascot, performed in school plays, was in French Club, etcetera. High school also represents when I first got online (fall 1996) and the increase in my obsession with such.
Senior year was traumatic. I moved to various homes to avoid my abusive mother and on Christmas Day my brother drowned in the Pacific. He was missing for 12 days before his body was found. Happier things happened that year but I won't bother going into them. I completely slacked off in AP English and ended up failing the class and graduating late. It remains a huge regret.
The summer after high school, I lived with my friend Loren in LA and worked as a temp at UCLA Medical Center. In the fall I attended University of Portland but only stayed one semester. I dealt with various mental health problems there and did very poorly. I then went to the Illinois Institute of Art of Chicago for the winter and spring quarters of 2001 before moving back to Oregon. I was in Astoria for the summer of 2001 and then movied into an apartment with my friends Alice and Cody in Portland. I lost my job very quickly and did not get another until December, long after I had to move out due primarily to the inability to pay rent and roommate conflicts (that have since healed).
I didn't have a home aside from that apartment, my father's piece of land with trailers was a poor choice and my mother's fiancé Bob would not let me live with them. And so began my seven and a half month stretch of homelessness, mostly spent in shelters. In May 2002, I spent a short time at my father's house but my depression rapidly increased one night and I attempted suicide by overdosing on pills.
In June of 2002, I started college again, at Southern Oregon University, where I am still enrolled. I intend to move to Southern California after I graduate in December 2005, though I will come back in June 2006 to walk at graduation. I didn't get to in high school, so I want that closure.
My friends are more important to me than my family--in a way, they are my family. My closest friends are Katie-- timefortea, who I've known since 3rd grade, and Becca-- beccas, who I met five years ago. Via a few key groups I've been in over the years--Gillian's Angels, the Holics and the Cleegirls--I've established dear friendships that still last today. |
