And yes... I do drive that fast on a daily basis. The average speed on the 210 out in Irwindale is 80mph. The CHP are even passing us at that speed.

9:41 pm - miles for August
|
I love how trouble free my car is. Back in February I had 111,111 miles. I don't think it's been in a shop (except when someone hit my car. That was only body damage) since November for that minor a/c problem. My dad says he's going to get rid of his '86 Camry next year, take the Accord, and we'll buy a new car for me under my name. I'm really leaning towards the Accord even tho I don't like how it looks. That 5-speed auto transmission sounds neat, but I'll have to see how well that new tranny holds. I just want a trouble free car. My uncle got his '85 Accord over 300,000 miles before he sold it to someone. He made a big mistake getting a brand new '91 Taurus. He's gone through two transmission rebuilts, one head gasket, one air filter box ($130 to get that replaced), and more that I can't remember.

9:46 pm - Aced the group final...!
|
Pretty easy. Create a webpage using 2 JavaScripts, 1 rollover image, use of buttons for navigation, stylesheet, JavaScript for date and time, frames, 1 form, and 4 pages including the main page. We had two hours to create this site. It's an informational site on Sports/Recreation, animals, or a holiday.
We finished 15 minutes early and she graded ours right on the spot. We got all 200 points!
Two girls from past quarters contacted me today. Josephine imed me on AOL asking for help on her Powerpoint presentation. She wanted to use movies for her presentatioin. She wanted to talk about 3 commercials and she tried to put them into Powerpoint. They were .rm files. Powerpoint doesn't read real audio files. I didn't have time to search for a program that converts a .rm to a .mpg or avi. So I told her just link the webpage in the Powerpoint.
While we were waiting outside for Fairhurst, someone tapped my shoulder. It was Cathy. I asked if she was taking summer. She said no. She's trying to get into CIS 328. I was like yeah Fairhurst is really nice, but a lot of people are trying to get in too. She said she can't take the other guy because it conflits with her schedule. I asked if she talked to Pam because she can get her in if that's the case. Well Fairhurst was coming. I was like "Professor, Cathy wants to talk to you about getting into your 328 class in the fall..." Fairhurst said she'll see which class has less people. Cathy and Fairhurst went to the front of the class while I set up to work on our group final. Cathy came up to me saying thanks... I asked her which class she got in. She's in my class :) I still need to return the Java book she lent me 2 quarter ago.

11:53 pm - connected thru dial-up
|
Dial up is so slow! I forgot how it felt like. I connected through netzero just to see how it felt like to view my Cal Poly website. Fairhurst has dialup at home and she says she grades our sites from home. Geez, a lot of have flash and huge graphic files.

Looks like CompUSA corrected the price, but it's still more than Apple's suggested retail price.

I was just stressing out. My weekend seems relaxing already. I'm already done with the 5 page paper. It wasn't that bad. I sat down at the library between my 4 hour break and wrote it. It was pretty easy. Guess what company I wrote about? Apple!

9:10 pm - I'm sooOooo busy
|
I've been telling that to everyone in web development. Today Fairhurst made me teach how to change image sizes in Photoshop and Fireworks. 'Cuz people think when they set height="400" width="300" it'll make webpage load faster. When I borrowed an image from a team member's site, the pixels for the width was like 2226. Waste of bandwith since he scaled it down to 525.
Anyway I have a 5 page paper due Tuesday for MHR 318 plus a 5-7 minute presentation, Project 6 - Final Business Site due at midnight on Wednesday, Final Exam Wednesday, Final group project due in class on Wednesday.

Damn it! In MHR we have to do a 5 page paper and 5 minute presentation. It's due on Aug 27th. It's either individual or a small group. I made a small group. I hope I'm a strong enough leader for this to pull it off. Only 6 more days to work on it.

I'm at the Cal Poly's Library trying to figure out Flash. I want my 25 extra credit points!
On Saturday was TJ's birthday. When we arrived there I was putting down the present and I heard Tess say, "Where's Jason?" By that time I was behind her saying "right here". I think it was because she saw my parents talking to her mom. My cousins went there really late. One of my uncles took a detour ... a very long one. Tess' sister Jackie, bought TJ an outdoor swing set. Someone started building it but my dad and uncles finished it by the evening. Jeremy was telling his stories and the girls picked on him. We mostly sat around to play and talk.

I shipped the book this morning before going to school. Tuesdays and Thursdays are very uneventful. While I was checking my email at the Library basement open lab, there were some young teen boys in there talking across the room. I looked up and saw that one of them was looking at porn. Those boys look like they were 12 or 13 years old. They didn't care that people were walking right past them where everyone can see what they were doing. There's no staff down there so they didn't really get in trouble. I'm sure if someone gets offended they'll go upstairs and get someone.

Monday
I sold the statistics study guide for $15 on Half.com and shipped it right away.
Prototype of business site was due so I worked on that all day. It turned out
really nice. People were complimenting that they like my work. Fairhurst asked
if I wanted to lead a group that wants to learn Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver
or Flash. I told her I know Photoshop, Fireworks or Dreamwaver. She was like well
you pick the one that you want to teach. Photoshop!
Tuesday
Had a test in FRL. Printed out those questions, so I did really well. He uses
the exact questions on some of them.
Wednesday
Slept in and went to class and she talked about the upcoming exam, which is on
Monday. She ended up changing her mind making it a take home test. We have the
whole weekend to work on it. It's just writing some JavaScript for forms and validating
them. Also JavaScript forcing a page into frames. Something like that. Should
be easy. At the end of class she told us the CIS department is thinking of overhauling
what they teach in this class. Some professors think that it's not necessary to
make Photoshop as a requirement for this class. Well I told her that Photoshop
is very expensive and many of us can not afford it. Then someone from my team
said yeah it causes a lot of software copyright problems. She heard something
about switching to Paintshop Pro. I've never used that so I have no clue. She
just mentioned that briefly. She stopped Derek and I to see what we think about
the department taking out Photoshop. I gave her what I thought from seeing the
struggles in my team. I told her about the price and learning of Photopshop. She
said she can see the both of us as project leaders in the future. We didn't talk
much because another class was waiting outside for the classroom. She said to
write her what we think. This is an email I'm writing her:
(I have to proof read it before I send this to her)
For CIS 311, we don't really need Photopshop. All we are doing is resizing,
cropping, and making gif animations. I know there are freeware applications
that can do that. Not a lot of people know how to use Photoshop. Students are
taking CIS 311 for web development. Maybe you can talk about what type of role
Photopshop plays in the industry, but not require the students to actually manipulate
images. I am the leader for my team and I know what my team is capable of. Chris
has a lot of trouble learning all these types of software that the CIS classes
use. HTML gives him a headache already. I made a banner for one of my pages
and it took me 30 minutes. I know if Chris were to make a banner similar to
mine, it'll take him days. He'll have to learn about layers, the magic wand,
background eraser, blending modes, image size, file types and so on.
We are taking CIS 311, which is introduction to web development. It's a class
to create breath taking images. Some of the members in my team were concerned
that they have to make nice images for their site to look good. Not really.
Take a look at my project 1. It has an image of me and a background pattern.
You gave me an A because I used space efficently and the text was layed out
nicely. You didn't have to scoll at all to see all the required information.
This class should teach what the basics of web design, not Photoshop. I mean
like what makes a good web page... That sort of things. Don't get me wrong,
Photoshop is a great tool, but it's not for this class since people are struggling
with HTML and JavaScript.
We only have ten weeks in a quarter. Here's an idea. Maybe the department can
make Photoshop a prerequisite for CIS 311. By the time they take this class
they'll have an idea so they'll just concentrate with the HTML and JavaScript.
I know I'll get screamed at if I give that suggestion in class because it will
add one more class towards their degree. I can debate that, but I'll save that
for another time.
When I got home from and checked my mac.com email, someone bought my sisters Pychology
book for $49.75.

12:03 pm - Goonies 2
|
I want to see it! I was looking for buddy icons and I ran across a section titled Goonies 2. I was like, there was part 2 and I didn't know about it? So I searched Blockbuster but they only had the original. So I searched the net. I found this. There's a group pic of kids all grown up.
Then I found this: This sequel to the '80s flick will find the stars of the first film reuniting 20 years later (along with their kids) to solve a new mystery. From here.
The movie will star all the original cast members. Release Date TBA 2002/2003

Yesterday when I was coming home on the freeway and I was behind this big-rig and he was trying to get into the right lane. He had is signal on and he was going in slowly. Then I see this car zoom by and the truck just moved back into his original lane. He tried to change lanes again and this car on the right started honking. Haha like the truck driver will hear the horn from the cab. That car just got next to the truck and cruised right next to the truck. I don't think there was a car in front of the car. The truck driver blew his horn. Now that horn is loud. I slowed down a little so maybe the truck can slow down and get in behind that car. I guess the truck driver got mad and started going in. I heard that car honk again haha. Sheesh.
It's funny here on the freeways. If you use your signal, it's like a signal for peole to gun the pedal so you can't get in. When I was close to home, this car pulled out onto the street really slow in a 40 mph zone. She was driving like 5 mph. All of a sudden that car stopped in the middle of the street and the car in front of me had to swerve out of the way. I noticed that drivers are so in experienced these days.

11:31 pm - I found the answers!

I was looking through the Corporate Finance cd-rom and I was dong the self study thingy. I just wanted to see what kind of questions the cd asked. So I clicked on chapter 12. As I was taking the test, I was thinking these questions seem familiar. It finally hit me that McKee uses the questions on the cd.

This always creeps up on me. There's only about 3 weeks of school left. Six more class meetings for web development and seven more for the other two classes. The weekend of Aug 16-18 will be a very busy one. We are having visitors from up north. Friday night my aunt is having a bbq up in Northridge. On Saturday is TJ's birthday party down in Fountain Valley. On Sunday the visitors are taking us out for lunch or something. I think Tess and her mom are staying over at someone's house on Saturday night so they don't have a long drive on Sunday morning. From Tess' house to my aunt's house it's almsot 80 miles one way. I've taken the route before at 3 in the morning when we went to Disneyland.
This quarter is too easy for me. And the classes I'm taking are all upper division courses. I talked to Pam last week and she said I can graduate by Summer 2003 if I take four classes per quarter. She said I can walk in the Spring if I have 190 units by then. Pam already knows me. She asked me if I finished that lit course yet. I was like uh oh, I forgot about that. I'm thinking of taking that class at GCC since I know most of the English instructors there ;) They'll hook me up. I was having second thoughts tho. If I take it at GCC I know I'll learn a lot more. I'm not sure how Cal Poly's English department is like. If the upper division classes are this easy, I'm sure that lit class will be pretty easy too. I don't want to take chances. Grr I think I'll just take it at GCC since I know how it's like there.
I should call Theresa. I haven't talked to her in like 3 months. The last time I saw her was when I ran into her at school while we both were leaving campus. She said she's moving to a new apartment at the village in the fall. I wonder what's going on with her. She calls me her bestfriend and sometimes I don't even feel to be deserved to be called that. I know in the past her boyfriend gets jealous when I'm around so I gave them some room. I wonder if he's changed at all. Theresa's little sister calls him a baby because he complains a lot and doesn't help out. Last summer when I visited her new apartment her boyfriend called. She mentioned that I was over and blah blah blah. She asked him what time he'll be over. A few minutes later he called saying he can't get his gas cap opened. What kind of excuse is that? She said to go to her house and ask her dad to open it for him. He was like no, he'll just wait. I know that he wasn't happy that I was over and that was his excuse. Later that day she asked me politely if I can go. I told her I know he's never happy when I'm around so I understand. She needed to call him and get changed. I always wondered about that. I mean she always has to change to dress up nice for him. What for? They've been together for more than a year. When ever I go over in the mornings she's usually still in her jammies. I remember one morning when I went over to her house, she just woke up. We were going on a fieldtrip for class and she invited him. While she got ready, she told me not to let him in if he comes early. I don't get it. Oh well.
