I hate X-Play on the new G4-TechTV channel. The hosts are too annoying for me to handle it. In fact, the only reason I watched it last night was because I tuned in halfway through a segment on Bujingai, because the main character was a beautiful Asian man. But what did they do? The interrupted a wonderful sequence of him kicking ass to say, "Bujin Guy or Bujin Girl?" and give a number of reasons why the main character wasn't a man, but a woman. And it was obvious that he was a man. I mean, lack of enormous storage breasts and an obvious male voice for one. He did wear makeup, but it only served to make him prettier. So, he got "Girl Points" for wearing makeup and having nice clothes, as well as being ninja-like and jumping a lot. Because wearing nice clothes and being a ninja makes you a woman. I wonder what Kakashi would have to say about that. Then, they reveal that The main character, Lau, was modeled after Gackt, during which I died, especially since they showed him recording some voice-over or something, and he was so pretty... And Lau does look a lot like Gackt, which is why he's rather androgynous and very, very pretty. But then they call Gackt the equivalent of Ziggy Stardust or Boy George, which is kind of random, AND (this is the best part) they make fun of him. Because he wears makeup, is pretty, and has a name like Gackt. Then they say the game probably won't do well in the US because it features a pretty-boy main character and the US apparently doesn't like that. Hello? Final Fantasy much? So I turned it off. I hate X-Play. Whoever writes for them obviously thinks nothing outside of the US can ever be cool, and makes fun of anything falling into that category with little to no humor. Gah, I hate it! Enough of my ranting. I'm going to find pictures of Gackt and stare at them.

So I went and downloaded two more soundtracks today. Final Fantasy: Pray and the Naruto second soundtrack album. Pray has some really nice orchestrations on it; they all have vocal accompaniment to go along with the music, which is a nice touch. I've heard "Wanderer of Time" before (it's the orchestrated 'Terra's Theme' that Liz and I are fond of), but the others are new. So. You will be happy to note that "Esperana do Amor" is the orchestration of "To My Beloved Friends," complete with Portugese lyrics. It took me a little while to recognize it, but I'm sure that's it. I'll upload it later, if you want it. Other highlights: "Into the Light" is "Rose" from FF4, which is an interesting change from the violin version I'm used to. "Prelude" is neat, too, even though the voices are just singing with no words. "Nao Chora Menina" is pretty, too. Now, the Naruto soundtrack... Isn't it just a little odd that Sasuke's Theme sounds something like a porn soundtrack? At least the beginning does. It made me laugh. "Harmonia" is also in its full glory at the end, too. Four and a half minutes of happy j-pop. Heh.

You know what sucks? That Liz's game isn't the same as it used to be. That's to be expected, though, since we're playing with new people, but still... It's just so different, and it makes me kind of sad and kind of not wanting to play Damaera, despite the fact that she's my favorite. It's gotten to the point where I can just slip into her character without anything normally. And I think that's why this year's game kind of disheartens me, because I can't seem to get into character with her. She fluxuates like crazy, and that probably makes me look pretty bad on the whole. Maybe it's because we're going so far into the rules this year. It used to be that the actual physical rules weren't that important. We'd go for hours without rolling anything. There were some sessions where we'd never even get near combat, and call me crazy, but I liked that. It was fun, and there was so much more to do other than kick in the door, kill the monster, get the treasure. I mean, Damaera's 12th level now, and she's got very few actual magic items -- much less than a pre-fab character of her level. And I like her that way. It makes things more challenging, and her character's that much more developed. Taking a character from 2nd to 12th level will do that, I guess. And I'm not a big fan of the using-minis-to-make-sure-we-follow-the-c ombat-rules-exactly, either. Since when does terrain follow an exact square grid, anyway? And yes, I understand about the rules and the need for some structure, and the overall practicallity when using area effect spells and whatnot, but...it just doesn't seem real, which is what I thought we were going for. Argh. And while taking Still Spell over Skill Focus (Perform) might not have been the most practical choice given that she's a bard, it made the most sense for her character. So there. Damn powergamers taking up all the time and not letting me talk with my NPCs or fellow PCs! I'm fucking getting this game back, despite the fact that I'm not up here most of the time. Damnit, let me be selfish and say that since I've got seniority over every other PC in Lorin ever maybe I should be allowed a teensy bit of actual roleplaying time that doesn't revolve around which spells I can cast or exactly how we're going to trap the fugitive we've been chasing. I don't want to get out of character just because it's convenient for the ambush! And everyone but Kolas is getting kicked out of the palace at the earliest conveiniece. Kolas is the only PC she actually likes right now. please don't make me want Rose back...

I had three weird dreams; okay, technically two and a half. Let me see if I can recount them. Dream #1: It was this post-apocalyptic setting that involved Lorin in some way, since Teigue and Kolas and Drasheden were there. I was, for some reason, Damaera. We were camped out in these metal trailer type things. We also had a lot of puppies (St. Bernards, I think). Anyway, some random evil people were raiding the villages nearby and taking all the children from them to sell or eat or something. So I volunteered to go and save them. I managed to sneak out and distract the evil guys with the puppies (who escaped unscathed) and then bring the twenty or so kids into our little encampment. For some reason, one of them attached herself to me, and then the dream segued into... Dream #2: I was in this strange area that looked a lot like a cross between a stage and a basketball court. There was a red curtain that I was hiding behind, and Liz and Lexx and Erica and Conner were with me. I think Richard was there, too, but more on that later. For some reason, an Evil Corporation (tm) [I think it was Disney] wanted us for some experiment, and the only way we could escape them was to pretend to be drawing up a basketball court with masking tape we took from Connor. So we worked on that, but the Evil Corporation found us anyway. We ran away, which brought me to... Dream #3: Connor was origninally the one with me, but when I turned around to find him, he was gone and Toshi was there, which was strange. Then everyone else came and found us. We were in Disney World, for some reason, but I was terribly unlucky and kept getting hurt in horrible ways that really didn't hurt me too badly. I know I got tossed off a boat a few times and fell in the water; the last time I washed up on an island and got rescued by some random guy. And since Richard was with all of us when we went to Disney World, I think he was the one making me unlucky. And at one point, we were all in a strange house full of curtains that involved the girl that attached herself to me in the first dream. Wow, that was weird. One of the most vivid sets of dreams that I've had in a long time. Strange.

Playing with my cousins Seth and Luke today yielded these amusing phrases: "I'm Superbat! In the name of the bats, I'll punish you!" "You can't see me. I'm in my Batcave. *hides behind chair*" "Luke is my Batcave Assistant, Bat...Baby!" "I'm turning into a robot now. Don't look." After seeing Luke (his little brother) with a Pringles box on his head: "Oh no! It's Chipto, the villian that shoots chips for weapons! He's gonna use his super-potato attack!" "Super...Mega...Cosmic...Moon...Bat...Mo n...Attack!" "*maniacal laughter* You'll never catch me, Catgirl! I'm Batboy!" "I thought you were Superbat, Seth." "I was. Then I used my magical transforming cape to turn into Batboy, who's twice as powerful as Superbat! Watch out, I'm using my Mega-Robo-Bat Attack! *tackle*" This stuff happens when you mix Live-Action Sailor Moon, Power Rangers, Justice League, and the Japanese language. I swear Seth was yelling out in Engrish at one point. They're so cute.

I heart Lachlan. And Liz is a comic genius. ----------“You there!” Lachlan marched over to the group of sailors from the side of the deck opposite his friends. He waved a hand at the nearest sailor, a burly looking fellow who had apparently decided not to shave that week, and looked down at him with the most pompous face he could muster. The pirate looked up sourly, puffing out a cloud of smoke from the pipe that dangled from his mouth. “What’s that… thing, over there?” Lachlan pointed vaguely behind him. The pirate squinted blandly past Lachlan. His bushy eyebrows lifted, and the others around him started turning their attention to the conversation. Lachlan clasped his hands beneath his sleeves, wondering nervously if he had just ruined his friends’ cover with a careless gesture. The burly sailor looked back up at him, though. “That’s the mast.” “Is it!” Lachlan blurted, feeling relief and panic at the same time. All eyes were now on the apparently idiotic priest. “Well… what’s it for?” The sailor now looked as if his pipe had been soaked in lemon juice. “It’s for masting,” he sneered. “Are you mocking me?” “’At’s exactly what I’m doin’.” “Now see here—” ----------And Liz will probably kill me now for posting part of her unfinished story here. But it's just too cute for me not to. Don't you understand? Don't you? Don't you!?

So, I dyed my hair red today. According to the box, it's "Beyond Cherry." But the hair is decidely pink currently. I'll give it a few days to sink in. It looks nice, though. My sister (who helped me with it) says I look like Willow from Buffy. I found that amusing, because I am in no way willowy. Hah. I made a pun. [death] But, yes. It looks nice. I like it. I've always wanted my hair red. I think I just have an obsession with red-heads. Like Teigue, for example. Oh, Teigue... You know the easiest way to give yourself a heart attack? Look down while you're washing the red dye out of your hair in the shower. I almost died, and I knew it was just hair dye. It was this horrible crimsony color, like blood. Scary. So. Red hair. I guess I look sort of Irish now. Sort of. Minus the green eyes, of course. And I don't think I could pass for Irish if I tried. No accent, of course. Though both of my siblings and I were talking in British accents for about an hour today. It was amusing. But no Irish. Wow. I'm boring.

From Something Positive: The GMing Song
Your characters are stupid -- Oh, wait, they're just like you! You make these plans you think are grand, But never think them through. Kill the King, annoy the orcs, Insult the druid's trees... When you get disemboweled, Don't you dare whine to me.
You think that it's inspired To play the other sex; You roll your dice but don't think twice About what's coming next. What part of 'consequences' Can't burrow through your brain? Well, after you've been slaughtered, I'll just sing this refrain:
Rocks fall, everybody dies; Death comes raining from the skies. Whine whine whine, well, thank you all for sharing. You say I'm not being fair -- Hey, wait, am I supposed to care? Whine whine whine, look at me not caring!
Your motivation's lacking; Your concept's uninspired. Please go away, you shouldn't play Once your brain's been retired. Hack and slash and politics Are bad things to combine. You want to play things your way? Well, tough, we're playing mine.
I want my players thinking. I want your brain engaged. You whine and cry then wonder why I'm getting so enraged. You're telling me I need you; Well, moron, here's the thing. The smart folks have umbrellas, And all of us can sing:
Rocks fall, everybody dies; Death comes raining from the skies. Whine whine whine, well, thank you all for sharing. You say I'm not being fair -- Hey, wait, am I supposed to care? Whine whine whine, look at me not caring!
Yes, rocks fall, everybody dies, I don't care how much you cry, Whine whine whine, hey, moron, what's the matter? Yes, I guess you'd better run -- Hey, I'm finally having fun! Whine whine whine, watch the morons splatter!
