Ten Years Ago,
during my first year of teaching in China (1993-1994), I wrote a pre-Internet
version of a Blog, what we called back the "keeping a journal", which involved
the now nearly extinct act of writing on pages in notebook using an ink pen. These
days, some of those lucky enough to be teaching in China record their experiences
in thoughts in "China Blogs", which you'll find a nice listing of at SinoSplice. Gradually
throughout this year, I'll be adding ten-year old entries from my "China Journals"
in the form of a "China Blog" on these very pages, and including some photographs
loosely related to each blog entry. I
certainly had nothing more profound to say than do today's China Bloggers, but
ten years in terms of China's rate of development and modernization equals a century
of the same in many Western countries. These entries and photos are being offered
as a contribution to the record of foreigners' experiences in China, and as a
way to compare what's changed ... and what's the same ... between "China 1993-94"
and "China 2003-2004". | | ![](http://library.vu.edu.pk/cgi-bin/nph-proxy.cgi/000100A/http/web.archive.org/web/20040804103949im_/http:/=2fchinese-outpost.com/images/note_blc.gif) | ![](http://library.vu.edu.pk/cgi-bin/nph-proxy.cgi/000100A/http/web.archive.org/web/20040804103949im_/http:/=2fchinese-outpost.com/images/note_brc.gif) |
