Wired lowercases internet
Wired is no longer capitalizing internet, web and net. I've tried to get our editors to do the same thing for a while. May others follow Wired's lead.
The NYC way
The kids moving to NYC are gettin' smarter, they are:
Newbie: figuring out the way ny is
Me: the way NY is? how so?
Newbie: ny is a city where everyone comes here for one thing
Newbie: thats to succeed
Me: aha... yes... tis true
Newbie: but they forget about real life and people
Me: how long have you been here?
Newbie: a week
Me: took me a few months to figure that out... congrats
Right Said Fred
How in the world could I have missed this?! Right Said Fred released a follow-up album in 2002, titled Sex and Travel. They, of course, were popular for the song "I'm Too Sexy" which in turn made me popular after lip-syncing it in front of my entire senior high class.
Olympic shaving
Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps provides some handy tips for removing unwanted body hair:
Tip #1 - Don't push too hard "Don't press too hard," said Phelps, moments after breaking the U.S. record in the 200m IM. "I cut myself big time this time. You don't want to shave too much skin off. You don't want to go down too deep."
Tip #2 - What about your back
"Someone else does my back and the back of my knees too, I can't reach down there. Get someone you know. Someone you are close with. One of my friends on the team takes care of my back shaving needs."
Or Michael could buy the Razorba.
What's "in" on Wall Street
The Faith Popcorn of Lower Manhattan, WinneroftheSAT tips us to the current hot trends on Wall Street:
- Creating your own fresh tossed salad item by item. God forbid you pick a stupid pre-made salad off a shelf.
- Security guards who are always watching, always thinking, always calculating.
- Walking around like you’re all important.
- Screaming “Buy!” and “Sell!”
- Flaunting your Blackberry--a device meant to connect you to the world. Ironically, you are somehow totally disconnected from reality.
I hate Bloomberg
Bloomberg staffers keep popping their swanky bottles of champagne while I sip my Bud. Oh the misery.
Media Pavilion bursts into song
Staffers everywhere heard singing along to Carole King: "winter spring summer or fall... all you got to do is call... and I'll be there.... yes I will... you've got a friend"
I think we all need a long nap.
Barf
From Kerry's speech tonight: "I was born in Colorado, in Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, when my dad was a pilot in World War II. Now, Im not one to read into things, but guess which wing of the hospital the maternity ward was in? I'm not making this up. I was born in the West Wing!"
Matt Yglesias sighting
I do believe I just overheard uber-blogger Matt "American Prospect" Yglesias saying, "these speeches all sound alike." C'mon, Matt, drink the Kool Aid.
Joe Wilson sighting
Security has completely locked down the Fleet and my "exclusive" press credentials got me as far as some pimpled 17-year-old DNC volunteer yelling "Secret Service only" and shooing me away. But on my way back down the stairs, ran into Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame looking a tad lost. I wanted to point and yell "SPY!" but thought better and continued on my way.
Favorite "protest" signs seen so far
"Learn cell phone etiquette"
"Stop my girlfriend from dumping me"
"Cure erectile dysfunction." Where's Bob Dole when you need him?
Bubbly
Cases of champagne were just delivered to Bloomberg workspace. Ah the perks of working for a billionaire compared to a millionaire.

Who cares?
The DNC Convention site is touting their web stats:
30 million hits. 2.2 million individual page views. 391,658 visitors. 2.6 terabytes of data.
Poor numbers, in my opinion. I'd like to see credentialled bloggers overall stats for this week. My guess is that they aren't high. From the inside (media) looking outward, there doesn't seem to be much to report. So far, a big yawn.
Annie
As Ilana Wexler came to the podium last night, media staffers in the press pavilion were heard singing "Tomorrow... tomorrow..."
