KMRT set up nicely this morning for us Dummies. Unusually active and volatile, broad tone is positive, nice low-risk spot to get in... the most skittish among us are already at breakeven in case it goes whoopsie.

Archipelago completes IPO after price cut, by David Roeder.

"Accounting for roughly 14 percent of all U.S. stock trading, Archipelago becomes the second Chicago exchange to finish an IPO. The first was the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, which went public in December 2002 and has seen its stock gain nearly fourfold since then ... Archipelago was founded in 1996 by trader Gerald Putnam and computer expert Stuart Townsend. Putnam is the company's chief executive, and both men are expected to own about 2.6 percent of the company after the IPO."

Q&A; with Craig Newmark of Craigslist following eBay's taking a 25% stake in the business.

"The parties declined to disclose the name of the shareholder, or the amount that eBay paid to become one of the largest - if not the single largest - shareholder of craigslist. The price, thought by some analysts to be in the low tens of millions, would be pocket change for a huge company like eBay, which generated $773 million in revenue in the second quarter of this year." [Emphasis mine]
