Important update on Hunter's trial:
Details are still fairly sketchy, but a look at the docket sheet for Hunter's trial shows that the trial has been delayed until September 14, 8:00 a.m. EDT, when jury selection is scheduled to begin. It would appear that the prosecution thought Hunter would accept a plea, but thought wrong and now needs to prepare a case.
That's just my guess. What is clear to this point is that all the online attention, and letters to the Ashland County judicial system and media, has had an effect on the proceedings. Still, is that a whiff of backroom smoke I'm smelling on prosecutor Robert DeSanto's clothing? Naaaaah. Couldn't be.
If the case does drag on through the summer, it gives us even more opportunities to shame the Ashland County court for their baseless persecution of an individual who did nothing more than be prepared to defend himself. And let's not forget the Ohio Highway Patrol, who originally made wildly speculative and inflammatory comments about the case, and when each claim was found to be ludicrous, chose to hide behind their desks and big hats rather than admit their mistakes. If you can, please continue to support Hunter's legal defense. If that isn't possible, write letters to the media, to the Ashland County prosecutor and judge (addresses in right-hand column at the link above). Essays and other commentary on various aspects of the case can be very helpful. If you don't feel able to do that, please continue to share news updates with any friends, coworkers, and others you know who would be interested in Hunter's case. Lastly, we can continue to shame the alleged pro-RKBA organizations that have turned their backs on Hunter, despite his very generous financial and other support of some of them for years.
As part of our activism on Hunter's behalf, but also because of the fundamental principle involved, we are asking for all individuals who value the ability to use a firearm in self-defense join our boycott of Verizon. Please join in, and help us spread the word. In trying to figure out what code Hunter could have violated, Carl discovered that Verizon has no respect for the right to keep and bear arms -- it dictates that its employees go about defenseless. That's right: Verizon wants helpless employees. That's an added incentive to deprive this company of your hard-earned cash. Remember, the economy isn't all that great, and telecommunications is extremely competitive right now -- we can significantly impact Verizon's bottom line with this boycott. It isn't enough to starve their pockets, though; they need to know why they've unearned our business. Carl's page has contact information to send your protest letter to Verizon -- and our thanks for signing on! Please feel free to copy Carl's boycott graphic, posted at the top of this page, for use on your own site, and please join our Google bomb effort on this front. More on this below.
You can join in the Liberty Round Table's Google bomb project (didja see that we got a mention in the New York Times for our efforts? :-) for the Food Nazis and organized crime. Our newest target is Verizon, with the Google bomb "Verizon wants helpless employees."
See our Google bomb project home page for general information and links to specific projects. Bloggers, you can help a bunch by "blogrolling" -- adding the link to your sidebar, with your favorite links. That way, they never go off the home page. Fun, easy activism that we hope will hit a few people with a metaphorical clue-by-four.
