KY: Dr. Dan Endorsed by Police Group, Bunning Misuses Police
"To us, he looks like hope for Kentucky," said Martin Scott, President of the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police. Last Wednesday at a press conference he gave Kentucky U.S. Senate Candidate Dr. Daniel Mongiardo the group's endorsement.
In a move that can only be categorized as "bizarre," U.S. Senator Jim Bunning requested extra police protection during a visit to Paducah, citing the possibility of an Al Queda threat. Mongiardo said that "Jim Bunning needs to explain to the people of Kentucky why he seeks additional security for himself when he's repeatedly voted against funding police and first responders who are responsible for protecting all of us." SC: DeMint to Raise Taxes on Middle Class
In a move that is almost unprecedented for a Republican, Jim DeMint is promising to raise middle class taxes. DeMint would remove the current system of progressive income taxation, and replace it with a 23% federal sales tax on all goods and services, in addition to state and local sales taxes. This would hurt middle class families by taxing the things they need most, and eliminating vital deductions such as the child tax credit.
DeMint's plan would tax a myriad of items including food, water, rent, mortgage payments, gasoline, clothes, diapers, medicine, college tuition, and health insurance.
According to an editorial written by U.S. Senate Candidate and state Superintendent of Education, Inez Tenenbaum, many South Carolina families who use the child tax credit and other deductions to lower their overall tax rate, would see their tax rate rise from 5% to 23%.
