8:46 am - I can't believe I'm doing this.
|
My sister posted this survey on her LJ. I usually hate these things, but this one was actually interesting, in parts.
1: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says: other Persons.]1 The actual Enumeration shall be made
2: Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?: Sasha's bookshelf. Specifically, the shelf with his dictionary, world atlas, and stamp collection.
3: What is the last thing you watched on TV?: The Sesame Street 35th anniversary special last night. But if you'd asked me 24 hours ago, it would have been the Oscars.
4: WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what the time is: 8:45
5: Now look at the clock, what is the actual time?: 8:49
6: With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?: Water. Moving through the radiator pipes and the dishwasher.
7: When did you last step outside? what were you doing?: Yesterday around 1:30 in the afternoon, going to Lamont library at Harvard with Sasha.
8: before you came to this website, what did you look at? cnn.com
9: what are you wearing?: This is a boring question.
10: Did you dream last night? No, but Sasha talked out loud in his sleep for the third night in a row.
11: When did you last laugh? Probably this morning, when Sasha and I played a miniature game of word-association.
12: what is on the walls of the room you are in?: A map of the world (the kind with a circle for each hemisphere), an HP poster in French, a clock stopped at 11:46:20, a lamp, and a very weird art/word thing in German. I am not responsible for any of this.
13: Seen anything weird lately?: Elmo's World.
14: What do you think of this quiz?: This is a stupid question.
15: What is the last film you saw?: Smilla's Sense of Snow, from Netflix
16: If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?: This is also a stupid question.
17: Tell me something about you that I don't know: I can't answer that without knowing who you are.
18: If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?: Make everyone use their minds to their full potential.
19: Do you like to dance?: Only Scottish.
20: George Bush: is he a power-crazy nutcase or some one who is finally doing something that has needed to be done for years?: B
21: Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?: Nell. Or Eowyn.
22: Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?: Steve. Or Zachary.
23: Would you ever consider living abroad?: Yes.
24: Will you pass on this survey? This is definitely a stupid question.

It has come to my attention that many people who want to read about what is going on in my life think this is an actual journal. It is NOT. My real life-updates, along with commentary on whatever I feel like writing, are at my blog, http://quare.blogspot.com .

7:02 am - Round and round and back where you began

I shocked myself the other day by actually being interested in something Andrew posted. Then I shocked myself even more by being fascinated by a thread Kirez brought up in response. I haven't talked to these people in years. I thought my intellectual interests had become so different from theirs that I would find nothing of more than passing interest in their conversation. This, of course, reminds me that I am a silly person, prone to isolate myself.
I've been thinking a lot lately about "what makes me happy", which is a totally separate category from "what I like to do". When I have free time, I tend to fall into "what I like to do" things through sheer force of habit - I surf around the same 10 websites, I watch movies, I read Tolkein and series books, I think about politics, and I generally become depressed and bored.
"Things that make me happy" are surprising, and usually small. Baking and other forms of cooking are at the top of the list. Clipping coupons and grocery shopping are also there. Web design, though it always has a big component of frustration to it, gives me an accomplished feeling. Being with Sasha, and understanding his jokes. Being with any people who are sufficiently quirky and interesting.
It really pisses me off when I finally understand something that I thought was Kyle-bullshit.
There are a lot of holes in this, but that's okay. I haven't been putting my whole life on the Internet for a long time now.

My friend Gaudior ran Internet searches on all her friends' names and pulled out the most interesting hits that were not actually the people in question. Here's the section about me:
Hanah is another spiritual being, not so much Greek as Southern Californian, with remarkable creative energy. Hanah is 12" in height. HANAH is a collaborative project between Cardiff University, the University of Wales College of Medicine and Neath Port. Hanah is thinking on starting a new adventure in Barcelona. HANAH is an artificial lifeform given the opportunity of life by Vice Admiral Corey Quan. If Hanah is having a really rough time, or some sort of additional challenge is needed, she will turn to the statue and beg, "I have served thee faithfully, oh Vengeful Virgin! Help me, thy servant, in her hour of need!" Hanah is a sweet pinto mare who is correct in every way, from her beautiful dished head, large expressive eyes, level top line and straight legs to her eager to please attitude. Without using quite the loaded language, I think Hanah is onto something.
