- Darfur: U.N. ‘Safe Areas’ Offer No Real Security
(New York, September 1, 2004) — A plan to create “safe areas” in Darfur may only consolidate ethnic cleansing without offering real protection to civilians, Human Rights Watch said today. U.N. Security Council members meeting on Thursday to discuss the situation in Darfur should reject the plan, which the U.N. special envoy to Sudan recently concluded with the Sudanese government.
