All proceeds will benefit America Coming Together.
Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, Fox News Channel turns Republican talking points into news headlines. Now "Uncovered" director Robert Greenwald — working with a group of Fox-monitoring MoveOn members — has put together a documentary film called Outfoxed that exposes Fox for what it is: partisan spin, not news.
We all remember the election of 2000. Because of faulty and mismanaged election systems, George W. Bush won Florida's electoral votes and the presidency. And now look at the mess we're in.
People demanded improvements, and now states are spending millions to buy new voting machines. So far, so good. But many key states, including Florida, Ohio and other battlegrounds, are installing "black box" voting machines — computer voting terminals that don't produce a paper ballot. Without a paper ballot, there's no way to know if our votes are counted correctly. Also, computers are vulnerable to malfunction — how often does yours freeze up?
We now know Rumsfeld personally approved a policy that "encouraged physical coercion and sexual humiliation of Iraqi prisoners," violating their fundamental human rights under the Geneva convention.
In an attempt to evade responsibility for the misleading statements
that pushed the nation into war, Bush has announced plans to form an
independent inquiry to look into what went wrong. An inquiry would
serve the Bush administration well: it would envelop the issue in a
fog of uncertainty, deflect blame onto the intelligence services,
and delay any political damage until 2005, after the upcoming
election.
But the facts need no clarification. Despite
repeated warnings from the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency,
President Bush and his administration hyped and distorted the threat
that Iraq posed. And now that reality is setting in, the President
wants to pin the blame on someone else. We can't let him.
Congress has the power to censure the President to formally
reprimand him for betraying the nation's trust. If ever there was a
time for this, it's now.
Al Gore is a true leader who has offered a series of speeches detailing the flaws in President Bush's foreign and domestic policies and their serious consequences for America.
How to Find Your Political Voice and Become a Catalyst for Change
Written by MoveOn members across the country, from Hawaii to Maine, from political figures to teachers, this collection of essays shares compelling personal stories and action items with resources for taking inspiration a step further. Simple ideas are illuminated, such as "His Last Vote," about a dying man's wish to cast a ballot, as are more dynamic actions, such as "Start a Petition," which chronicles a couple's quest to protect wolves from trappers in Alaska. MoveOn's 50 Ways to Love Your Country answers the question that more and more citizens are asking: "What can I do?"
