Somewhere online is a name database with graphics illustrating interconnections among people in power -- I think it's the product of one of those Bilderberger conspiracy groups. Whatever. Perhaps we need to illustrate the series of interconnections among contemporary media figures, elected and appointed officials, Washington hosts, lobby groups, attorneys, and corporations. Maybe someone has already done this? I keep feeling frustrated on behalf of those good citizens who wonder why so many actions and attitudes of public figures seem so inexplicable. Why did so-and-so cave and vote for that bill?
...Until you realize that everyone goes to the same parties, knows the same publishers, sits on the same boards, etc. etc.
Posted by Bean at August 30, 2004 05:49 PMWell, in fairness, I'm sure Novak would be just as much of a hack even if his son wasn't working for Regnery...
Posted by Scott at August 30, 2004 07:07 PMScott, you've got the causality reversed. Novak's son wouldn't be working for Regnery if Novak Sr weren't such a hack. (Or as John Stewart calls him, a Douchebag for Freedom.)
Interesting information!
I don't watch CNN and couldn't pick Robert Novak out of a pile o' shit; but I did stay at a Holiday Inn...once.
Some may be called to be PIMPS...some may be called to be whores?
Cheers!
Posted by Sergeant America at August 30, 2004 10:04 PMRelevant? Don't be silly. Why would the director of marketing for a publishing company want his father to say good things about one of their books on national TV? I mean, that's absolutely absurd. You liberals are trying way too hard to look at things like 'facts' and 'common sense'.
Posted by thehim at August 30, 2004 11:34 PMBean: There's already a wonderfully practical template for charting these relationships. It's used by public health officials to track the spread of venereal disease. The really exciting part will be identifying the index case.
Posted by Miss Authoritiva at August 31, 2004 03:25 AMNovak also recently ran an article about Rear Admiral Schachte saying he could somehow remember 30 years later that he never signed Kerry's medal write-up, despite his signature being on it. In that article Novak identified Schachte as someone "who has backed candidates from both parties in the past" in order to make him sound like he wasn't partisan. Schachte has indeed given to both parties in the last four years. But only $500 to one Democrat while he's given over ten times as much, $5500, to seven Republicans, including $2000 to George W. Bush. It took me 20 minutes to look that up. You'd think Novak could afford a research assistant or at least a small vial of integrety.
Posted by Mojo at August 31, 2004 07:50 AMSmall vials of integrity are not purchased by people like Novak. In fact, they don't cost actual money. Novak and co. did not get where they were by showing integrity. :)

Posted by wing nut at August 31, 2004 08:17 PMI don't know Seb. If Novak comes out in support of a multi-level marketing scheme then I'll buy this premise. I'm sure is just a hackcident that he forgot.
