what would you ask the president of your university?
The president of the U of C is coming to SAA tonight. He came last year too, but I don't recall the discussion amounting to much.

inject yourself with liberty
- (the cranberries) I started listening to the My Chemical Romance cd today. The t-shirt says 'heavy metal killing machine', and totally gives them the wrong image. The music is alright, but marred by all their propoganda that trys to pass them off as something they totally aren't.

... but I don't inhale!
SLC unanimously approved the smoking policy last night, as on the agenda. While some people are gloating about we 'beat' the smoking committee, I don't there were really any winners (or losers) as far as that went last night. Although I believe that the potential existed for one (despite not being able to really provide it myself), there were no strong arguments on either side.

occult overtones
Ewwwww. I made blueberry muffins today, substituting half of the regular flour with hempseed flour. Dry, the hemp flour tasted fine. It has about 14 grams of whole protein per quarter cup, so I thought it would some rather nutritious muffins. It must change a lot during baking though, because the muffins taste unedibly bitter.
While baking the muffins, I listened to borrowed copies of Black Sabbath's Paranoid and Jethro Tull's Aqualung, followed by my own copy of Black Sabbath's We Sold Our Soul For Rock 'N Roll. I've owned my Black Sabbath for a couple of years, but haven't listened to it very much and this sort of reminded me why. Paranoid is a better album though, and Jethro Tull is almost comical at some points (not that Black Sabbath isn't) and has a long dialogue in the middle.

castles made of sand
The Calgary Herald is doing a new 'youth blog' thing, called Q, which may have been going on for a little while now, but I only noticed this morning when I happened to recognize a stranger's face while browsing through the first section. Apparently 'the voice of the new generation' comes mostly from people on the Gauntlet. All members of the nine person panel have, or are in the process of getting, a post-secondary education, and there are only two faces that I don't recognize. While each person's backround is undoubtably varied, I think the Herald is stretching it a bit. I say this, but at the same time I'd totally like to be a part of it too. Just another involved university student.... Still, they should have included someone who isn't in school.

redemption songs
The RSA meeting was the most inefficient meeting that I've ever been to. Even more inefficient then Clubs Committee. About 23 minutes were spent discussing what to wear to the meetings, even though the decision was already imposed on Council by the Exec. Lot's of questions that should be asked personally, as they aren't relevant to anyone else, lot's of back patting, and information that could have just as easily been translated through a written report. RSA is wierd to me in that the Exec sort of have a veto power over everything. It seems that nothing actually *has* to be brought to Council, and we don't need policy on anything because our stance on everything is pretty much up the whim of whoever the current Exec is at the time. According to the constitution, RSA is supposed to stay as autonomous from Rez Services as possible, yet it seems we get more meshed together with them every year. I think the Residence Advisory Committee (RAC), the way it's run, seems to be a stellar example of that.
The Rez Rodeo was on Tuesday. It went fairly well. My only problem with it was the orange game, and the egg toss. Food is for eatting. There are some really hungry students out there, and seeing eggs just smashed onto the concrete when so many reusable alternatives exist looks incredibly wasteful. Needless to say, I didn't participate in that one.
Don't get me wrong though. I like RSA, the people are great and I believe that overall it does a lot of good things.

don't worry about it
I don't have much to say here at the moment, and I probably won't have much for a while.
