cooking
I wanted to make a nice "something" to bring to teh Christmas Eve dinner, but as I'm working most of the day, I wanted something simple. I'm going to go with this recipe:
Christmas Cranberry Dump It Cake
1-16 oz. can whole cranberries 1-21 oz. can apple pie filling 1 box yellow cake mix 1 stick butter 1/2 cup chopped almond, walnuts or granola
Heat oven to 325 degrees. Dump cranberries into ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan. Dump apple pie filling into pan. Spread mixture evenly and spread dry cake mix on top. Cut up butter and dot top of cake. Sprinkle nuts and/or granole on top of cake. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes.
My question to you is when I cut the butter.. how large should the pieces be? Should I cut it into pats and cube it, or what?
Thanks!

Does anyone have advice on how to prevent scarring from cuts--namely, scissor cuts? Not terribly deep, but if anyone has any recommendations on how to help them heal with minimal scarring, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. :)

11:55 pm - Christmas Bread
cooking
Any ideas on Christmas bread to bake? I have Bernard Clayton's New Complete Book of Breads, but it's hard to choose between the different Christmas bread recipes. I remember that I baked one years ago, but not which one. Too bad, because it was delicious.
Also, any suggestions on alternatives to candied fruit for such bread? Especially cherries--that sounds too intense for me.

Salem and Loki are now caged together, since Reese can't seem to get along with anyone... and now Salem is VERY near delivery and she and Loki keep having a nest war. They keep raiding each others nests and stealing all the fluff. Little brats. LOL Reese has 12 babies last night, 6 boys and 6 girls, then she kept pushing one girl out of then nest, so since Loki's baby died a few days ago, I threw the abandoned girl in with Loki's litter and everything is all better. I think we will wake up to Salem's litter inthe mroning. I am so excited to see what comes out of her. She is a black vari-berk and was accidentally bred to a blue hodded hairless boy. He was supposed to be sterile. >.< Anywho, I'll keep everyone posted.

is there a sure-fire way to tell if a rat's a boy or a girl, aside from them having/not having nards? the lady at the pet shop said Sonny was a boy, just that his nards hadn't decended yet... but he's bigger than Don Vito. shouldn't all the decending have kind of... gone on by now?
i think i might have ended up with a lady. X_x; oh boy.

11:21 pm - A few of my favorite cookie/treat recipes | accomplished |
cooking
Chocolate chip cookies, with or without walnuts, really are best when using the good old Toll House recipe. Random fact? I've tried every single variation of butter/margarine and I find the best results with Tillamook unsalted butter. The recipe is on the Toll House bag. ( This is with walnuts ) For good cheater fudge, make it with Eagle/chocolate chips. It's yummy, quick, and easy. I went with marshmallow (pictured) and peanut butter (not pictured) this year. These recipes are online at http://www.eaglebrand.com( Fudge-y goodness )A great all-purpose cookie dough is the Basic Butter Cookie. This is a great recipe because it's yummy on its own as a decorated cutout cookie, as well as a great base for other projects (Epicurious boasts 10 recipes, but you could make a hundred probably). It's incredibly easy and time-saving to make a triple batch of it and then create three different types of cookies that no one would guess came from the same base! Two of my favorite uses for it are below. Caramel pecan bars are my favorite cookie in the world. I don't like nuts in anything baked. My boyfriend doesn't like nuts period. We adore these. Every single time I make these and take them anywhere, they are gone in a heartbeat. Seriously. Try them. ( Caramel Pecan Bars )These are a great, rich cookie. I find the best results using a semi-sweet chocolate and Drost cocoa. The powdered sugar on top cuts the bitterness a bit and provides a great contrast. Raw sugar also is wonderful. ( Cocoa Butter Cookies )(Both cookie recipes can be found at Epicurious.com by following the link above) Enjoy!

I have an older iMac running OS X (now 10.3.7), and for some reason when I reboot it is still going into that white screen where at the top it says "bootr unknown command" and I have to type boot to load OS X, or, when I boot the machine I have to reset the PRAM. But the next time I reboot it still does it. Is there a permanent fix for this?
