PaulMcCordAccording to a Zogby poll (printable) conducted for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV, Republican Johnny Isakson (49%) holds a 16-point lead over Democrat Denise Majette (33%) in the race to replace Zell Miller as Georgia's junior Senator. Libertarian Allen Buckley (3%) barely puts a dent in the race, but the poll suggests 15.5% of likely voters remain undecided. (Commentary follows.)  Full post

Michael McGuinness: With roughly 235,000 Michigan voters of Arabic descent, the Arab American Political Action Committee's decision to endorse Democratic nominee John F. Kerry for President in 2004 will likely have an impact in the state. It is also noteworthy because the organization backed George W. Bush in 2000.  Full post

Michael McGuinness: Organizations and newspapers that have come out in opposition to Proposal 2, "a proposal to amend the state constitution to specify what can be recognized as 'a marriage or similar union' for any purpose," have been recently adding up. The Detroit News, the Detroit Free Press, Michigan AFL-CIO, Association of Michigan Universities, the Michigan Education Association, and others have come out against Prop. 2 in the recent weeks. Recent reports show that the Catholic Church in Michigan is bankrolling half of the pro-Prop. 2 funds.   Full post

Michael McGuinness: Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards was in suburban Detroit Friday night at a pre-debate fundraiser, in Detroit Saturday morning at a religious school, and in Saginaw later Saturday at a state park. The U.S. Senator from North Carolina stumped for the Democratic ticket and made repeated mention of his running mate, John Kerry; most of his remarks were related to the presidential debates. He was accompanied by Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm at the events.  Full post

Blogicus Maximus: Colorado is among a handful of states that requires a voter to show ID in order to vote. Common Cause has filed a lawsuit that challenges the 2003 law that mandates that voters show some sort of ID in order to cast a ballot. Without an ID, a voter can only cast a provisional ballot.  Full post
