Hey all,
I just joined.
Ok. Someone in here recently mentioned something about the 'rabbits' theme in the movie, and it reminded me of something that had been bugging me since the first time I saw the movie:
There's an important scene in class where Donnie is saying, "well, rabbits are cute, but they're also stupid and think about nothing but eating and having sex. So why should we care" etc. But then in another scene, where he's shooting the bottles with his friends, and talking about the smurfs, Donnie says "If you can't f--k then what's the point of living?" or something like that.
Does anyone else see this as a major contradiction/inconsistency within his personality? These two scenes really confused me...because it both makes it sound like he's one of the 'stupid rabbits', but then in a later scene says that it's depressing that some species think about nothing but sex, and should die, or something.
I don't know, it just really confused me.
Also, struck me as interesting, that when he became hyponotized, sex was almost all he talked about. Thoughts? ;)

| DD Theater Scene and Credits Music |

The main reason I bought the DD soundtrack was for the background music during the theater scene and the credits.
That music just, oh, took my breath away.
Buuut, it wasn't on the soundtrack, which makes me think it wasn't written by Michael Andrews (or whoever the composer was for DD).
Can anyone tell me where I can download this music? I love it so much, but I hate that I have to listen to DD credits everytime I want to hear it.

Does anyone have or know where I can get sound clips from the movie? I downloaded some of the ones off the soundtrack but the quality was pretty bad. I need them because I am incredibly emo and I'm putting it on a CD for my girlfriend...Anyway, thanks.

I noticed something in the end of the movie while mad world is playing and it's showing where everyone is and what they're doing the moment that Donnie died. It was Frank he looked like he was crying while he was staring at the face of the bunny suit. Why was he crying? Or did I just imagine that he was crying when he really wasn't. Well his eyes were watery. Please comment I want to hear everyone's opinions on this.

I thought that I should make a small introduction about myself or something like it.
My name is Julie and I saw Donnie Darko for the first time about 8 months ago. I only watched it once, in a crowded room at a party, but it was insane. I couldn't get the movie out of my head afterwords. Only last week did I go and rent it, I sat down and watched it for what it truly was. The movie is amazing, this I'm sure you already know. I went out today and I bought the Director's Cut, which is amazing.
The concepts that this movie brings to life are incredible! Time travel, the belief of god, the entire schizophrenic look on life... it was so difficult to watch that movie and not comment on every line, on every hidden message, on every freaking cut!
This post probably means nothing to you guys, seeing as how you already know much the movie rocks, but I just wanted to say hello, and that I love (x12) this movie.

What nationailites are people here? On the directors cut DVD its got this documentary about UK fans. I'm british (aint proud of it) and I know a few people into the film but I wondered what its like in other countries.

For some reason this story reminded me of the whole "Jet Engine falling through your house" aspect of Donnie Darko.

Does anyone know what the Chinese or Japenese girl is suppose to symbolize in the movie? That's what confuses me the most. If you have any ideas of what she could symbolize but you don't know for a fact still make a comment. thanx

For my drama club, we're doing a showcase where there's no real direction, everyone jsut does their own scene.
I'm doing a scene with my friend. But, we don't know what.
We don't want a comedy.
& it needs to be 5-10 minutes (approx.).
I was hoping something from DD, but I don't think any would work for 2 people.
I really need suggestions.
We're 15 year old girls. if that helps.
It can be from a book, movie, play, etc.
It's really free & open.
I want a scene that makes people think & there's substance to it.
&, I want something people can understand without have seen/read the movie/play

i just found out that the darkomentary on the Director's Cut DVD is a fake! That clip brought me so much joy to see there were such freaks out there. Sadly, I was wrong. Although I am sure there are those kinds of freaks out there.

Hi all,
Does anyone have any pics of Cherita from Donnie Darko? I'm trying to find a picture of her looking upset / pissed off so that I can make an LJ user icon with the caption "CTFU!!!" for my own personal amusement.
Better yet... if you have such a picture and a minute, as I'm entirely challenged when it comes to using Photoshop or other graphic design type programs, I'll whip you up a bunch of internet cyber cookies if you can make said icon for me :D:D:D.
