It's amusing that the boys who live downstairs from me (the rugby players from Trinity College) are listening to Shakira's "Underneath your Clothes" & "Whenever, Whereever" loud enough that I can make out the lyrics through the floor. It's even funnier that I can clearly hear one of them singing each & every word. Current Mood: amused |

Irish Snow Pellets Apparently it's very rare for Dublin to have snow...imagine my surprise when I opened the front door this morning to a winter wonderland! ...Still had to go to class though.
The snow turned into these funny little pellets on my way to class...sort of like hail but not not as painful. They stick to my scarf like little burrs.
I'm cold and tired but happily home now and hopefully I can stay here the rest of the day.
Current Mood: oooooh snow! |

My flatmates were discussing the awkwardness of having a boyfriend and being around another attractive male...issues with flirting etc. Bridget summed it up well: "I mean, sex is so stupid...except when you're having it..." Current Mood: amused |

Last night I saw Alone it Stands which, in brief, is a comedic play about the unprecedented 1978 defeat of the All Blacks by Munster. My favorite lines from the play: (All Blacks coach giving his team a "pep talk.") "Our team is the most desirable virgin in all of rugby!...Do you know what happens to virgins that piss about? They get fucked!!!" It was a great show but I missed a lot of the jokes only because I was having difficulty understanding the accents...sometimes, I swear they're speaking a different language here. |

Accents I noticed a funny thing about how American, Irish, and English people pronounce the "th" sound the other day. The best example I could come up with is the word "three."
American pronounciation: three
Irish pronounciation: tree
English pronounciation: free |

I successfully navigated the city on my own today...I even figured out shortcuts!
One of my flatmates got hit by a bicyclist on her way home tonight. She's okay but scary...
Visited the Natural History Museum for a bit...
That's all for now...it's about time for bed. |

Notice the lack of a distinct grid system to the streets? I'm living a few blocks farther south then this map shows. Across the street from south end of St. Stephen's Green is where I go to school. Temple Bar is the Cultural District where I will be doing my internship with The Arc Children's Theatre. |

I made it to Ireland. I'm fucking exhausted. I'm trying not to sleep because it's only 3:30 in the afternoon here and I want to go to bed at a normal bed time to ward off jet lag. I'm getting the shivers though which is a bad sign. There's no way I can go out to a pub tonight...not that I want people to think I'm anti-social. I just want to sleep! P.S. I hate flying. Another AHS related topic So last night I'm watching the 11 o'clock news on channel 8 and they were doing a story on some local marines who were being deployed to the middle east. And I thought to myself, "hm...I've lost touch with JR Rowley (who you may remember was quite the JROTC buff back in the day)...I wonder if he's over in the middle east right now." Well the next thing I know his face is on the TV screen and he's part of the group being shipped to the middle east. His very pregnant wife was also present for the interview. I know I shouldn't be so shocked but seriously...though it's been almost 8 years since I graduated most people have remained in my memory as high school students...so all this getting married and having kids stuff is still surprising to me. In other news...I leave for Ireland in 4 days. Right now I'm more nervous then excited. Current Mood: weird |

Watsupwitchoo? Christmas ended early when my cold turned to nausea and I went home rather then eating dinner with the family.
On Sunday I went to a clinic about my annoying cold thinking I'd developed an ear infection or bronchitis or something and the doctor tells me I have "a little pneumonia in my left lung." So I'm resting a lot (i.e. watching TV, reading, knitting)...
My niece and both nephews are in town and I hope to go see them tomorrow but I worry about getting them sick.
I'm hoping by Sunday I'll be 100% so I can start getting ready for Ireland. (13 days 'til I leave!) |

AHS Folks... If you hadn't heard: James N. Erickson died on Tuesday, December 14th from stomach cancer. The night after I heard I dreamt of Ms. Coburn. I don't know where I was...in a crowd...and I saw her. She didn't see me. And I thought to myself, "I knew she was still alive! She faked her own death because she couldn't figure out how to retire without grieving her students but she's still here!" I woke myself up crying with relief and happiness and then I cried myself back to sleep when I realized it was a dream. Current Mood: nostalgic |
