Name: | Apocalyptica |
About: | Welcome to Apocalyptica!
The Theme and the Purpose:
I set this community up for the purpose of discussing the Apocalypse as a genre and as a thematic element in literature, film, television, music, visual arts, etc.
Does this mean that you may only discuss actual, physical post-apocalyptic settings?- Nope, you also may discuss it as a symbol and a state within the human soul, mind, etc. Examples:
- "The Waste Land" and other T.S. Eliot poetry
- Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness
- Stephen Crane's poetry
Do the settings of certain works have to be during a time of chaos or in a land of total ruin?- Nope, they can be after the Apocalypse, as a fall of modern civilization or after the Earth has recovered from a great catastrope. Or it can be during a slow fall of civilization. Examples:
- Any Rand's Anthem
- Soylent Green
May we discuss current events?- If you see a news story that is disturbingly parallel to a work, of course. Please use this topic sparingly, however.
May we recommend works or suggest interests for the community?- Most definitely! Any contributions are welcome as long as you follow the guidelines/rules.
- In fact, suggestions/recommendations for visual artists with 'apocalyptic' themes/imagery would be totally welcome, at this time. Being an English major, most of my knowledge obviously lies in the written form.
The Rules:
This is NOT a forum for religious beliefs about the End. You may relate and mention religious beliefs in general or in regard to an author's life OR even within a religious text (as long as you try your best to remain objective), but this is NOT a forum to spout or preach YOUR beliefs in an attempt to frighten or convert others. If I catch you doing such or harassing others, I will remove and ban you from the community and send a report to the LiveJournal admins as I deem necessary.
Also, this is not a place for you to report every little matter that occurs in YOUR life. Please reserve such matters for your own personal journal.
As for other matters, I am quite lenient and normally won't be cracking the whip of founderdom unless abuse or harassment occurs.
For now, I'm leaving this open membership so folks can come as they please and learn and share with others. Please do not require me to do otherwise. |
