The trip to Disneyworld for The MathWorks' 20th anniversary celebration was a treat. We all had fun. Disney can sure run an operation. The facists should be envious.
I was exhausted on the second day, more than likely due to the fact that I'm not used to the weather (hot and humid) yet. I still have the thick blood from winters in the north. I slept for my "free time" instead of going to any of the theme parks. I missed out, I'm told. Later that night, we went to Pleasure Island to drink and dance. I was toting along my
Quicksilver book by accident (I didn't have enough time to take it back to the room) and the back got a bit wet. At least the pages weren't damaged.
I only felt despondant a couple of times during the trip, but never for long. The friendliness is infectious. Either that or they spike the waters. Everything there is
so controlled. It's a bit uncanny.
Carlos & I are going to Chicago this next weekend. That will be a bit more like a lost weekend than anything else. I won't drink until I need to go to the ER again, at least. But I should have fun.
Oh...interesting thing...There's this new group at the MathWorks. I've been talking more with them than people on my own team recently. Mostly because I'm interested in this intermediate representation they've taken on that I hope to be involved with. Should I join them? (Assuming they'd want me.) I could be stepping on toes...Need to tread carefully.
My 6 month trial period is up on June 10th. After that, I'm a full-fleged employee, yo! I got a meager raise, due to the fact that I've only been there for 5 months so far. Not too bad. I think they'll let me stay on. Either that, or the firing papers just haven't been processed yet.
Ben is moving in tomorrow (Monday). It'll be great to live with someone again. I'm not big on living by myself. And I need an abundance of friends around me. Yes, I'm selfish that way. But I'm also a very steadfast friend to them as well, so the karma balances.
I really can't think of politics anymore. I just give up on all of them. Re Shakespeare: Instead of lawyers, we should first kill all of the politicians. I'll lump all "pundits" in with them, since they're really no better (and are often much worse). Weep for democracy, Chester!
New idea for a business: Selling time in isolation chambers (a la
Altered States) for people who
really need to get away from the stress of living and for whom vacations are even more stressful than going to work on a daily basis.
