I'm past 39,000 words so I'm doing well but I'm behind my most ambitious goals. I'm with my parents. They have a hotel room and I have an adjoining room. We spent Thanksgiving with my cousins on my father's side of the family. My cousin Craig--who looks a lot like my brother mattboroson but without the beard--was there with his wife and their two kids. His wife is also pretty cool, interested in home schooling and healthy natural foods. My cousin Bonnie was there; she's a lesbian (oh no! someone alert the Cheneys!) and was there with her partner. Bonnie's a massage therapist and folk musician. After the feast was over (it was so plentiful that as a semi-pesco-ovo-lacto-vegetarian I still ate a lot) the "kids" retired to a room where Craig, Bonnie, and Bonnie's partner tried to remember enough Simon and Garfunkel, Indigo Girls, etc. to play on guitar and mandolin. My parents are falling asleep. I must end this entry now. Goodnight, and happy thanksgiving to everyone except for the schmucks among you.

status I'm between 35,000 words and 36,000 words. I'd love to creep up 40,000 words by the end of tonight. Then I'll be in ok shape for finishing the novel before the month ends. My parents have a scale. I weigh about 160 pounds, as I usually do. elthar, your message did not come through unless you meant to write a bunch of characters that appeared as squares. I'm neither working for class nor thinking about scientific topics on my own. I'm exercising my imagination by finishing this silly novel, that's all.

I passed 30,000 words.
Honors planets class I thought went well, considering that I don't find Uranus and Neptune all that thrilling. I got some humor through. Reminder to self: flip the switch that lets students view their grades online.
The next class I held in the planetarium because of popular demand. I showed "Powers of Ten." There wasn't that much else to do in there though. I wanted to connect up my computer but the place wasn't equipped for a Mac.
Tomorrow: fly to NJ to see my parents

I passed 28,000 words. I had 21,000 yesterday afternoon, so I'm doing pretty well, though I'm still behind schedule. It's not because I lack for inspiration though.
I entered the grades for my honors class on planets into the web. I will be able to use the planetarium for my 1:30 class. I should pester the planetarium guy more to find out if I can use slides, and how. Or at least see if I can set up computer projection.
Now--or after I play the Arioso from opus 110--I study Uranus, Neptune, and galaxies.
BTW, the only thing keeping an Attorney General candidate who scoffs at the Geneva Convention from deserving to be skewered is the Geneva Convention.

23,372. 25,000 and I'll retire for the evening: take out the garbage and send out mail.
I'm a little too prickly about politics these days. Though perhaps it's best to say everything that can be said. I'm contemplating a culling of my friends list.

I'm at 21,000 words in my novel. That's behind schedule, but I lost some text in a mishap. I'll try to end today at 25,000, the halfway mark. Most of my chapters now are advancing very slightly the plot line. New plot device: a couple of characters disappear mysteriously. A couple of NPR listening and Krispy Kreme eating police detectives who call themselves Klick and Klack drive around interviewing the other main characters. This way I can get a panorama of all the characters. They all get interviewed and their relations get interviewed. I can toss out red herrings, which is always fun. (Especially with Krispy Kreme.)
Today I will try to upload student grades onto the campus computer system. Next week I start to talk about Uranus and Neptune (note to self: practice pronouncing the name of the first planet!) and I talk about galaxies with my non-honors class. Maybe I will find a way to bring my class to the Planetarium. It's no fun just hearing about galaxies without seeing their beautiful shapes. The red bulge / blue arm color difference shows you immediately and viscerally (if you have stellar viscera) the nature and age of the stars throughout a spiral galaxy. The Planetarium has a slide projector, and it may be easier to do a computer projection with. So I'll see if that's feasible for Monday--perhaps come into the office a little early.
Also: I'd meant to get a McIntosh apple at the store but ended up with, I think, a Red Delicious. Yuck!

Silly me!
Silly me! All along I've had transparencies for my planets class. I had a big stack of transparencies that came with the textbook, but I noticed they were following the stars and galaxies class but not the planets class. But the planets transparencies just came afterwards!
So I wasted time making my own transparencies--losing track of them too, to no good teaching effect--and only in black and white! Of course now I've learned how to do computer projection and this has made up somewhat for lost time. But now I can use transparencies again in the honors planets class.
I had a lazy morning, recovering more than I thought I needed to from last night's dancing. I joked around with my afternoon class a lot but we strayed from my lesson plan.
I need to go food shopping!

Just came from dancing. It was good. I got a little goofy. I got an ok workout. Several of my students were there. One from the honors class. Also frankeinstein and a woman with green hair who I suspect is ladaladonna. What this person said.
