Tolkien was born on this day in 1892.
That would make him... eleventy-one ;-) |

| | tired | ] | (below is from yesterday, which I didn't finish and also didn't get to post)
Today is turning out to be fast-paced... I set my alarm for 5am (like yesterday) to get some stuff done before work, and today I got up for a bit but then decided to snooze until 7:30am. I set the alarm, but apparently didn't turn it on, and I awoke at exactly 9am, the time I usually leave the house. So I had to notify work, and THEN still pack for my trip to Virginia this evening, straight from work.
So that's the deal. Happy Holidays everyone, and maybe I'll get an entry in this week in between holidays, shopping, working on a project, and
(and this is from right now)
Quick update. I hear all hell broke loose up north with this snowstorm or whatever. I drove down here to southwestern Virginia over yesterday afternoon and evening, and I drove right into it. But I'll fill y'all in on that later. Not much else to report right now; actually I'm just checking the news and mail and then getting to bed for a long day tomorrow... |

"It became non-routine when they opened his luggage and a bird of paradise took off flying in the terminal," Johns said.
Asked by agents if he had anything else to tell them, Cusack responded: "Yes, I've got monkeys in my pants." |

The Two Towers |
[Dec. 18th, 2002|02:30 pm] |
For those I haven't mentioned it to, it was in fact AWESOME. I like it at least as much as the first one, and maybe more. I will write more later.
Basically this one diverges from the direct sequence of the book, since three or four sub-plots are going on at the same time, so it is hard to compare directly to the book -- harder than the first one. But it is still true to the themes, albeit with a little bit of movie-specific, induced nail-biting. But it makes for a great flick.
Can't wait to see it again soon! |

pictures of my workplace |
[Dec. 12th, 2002|06:02 pm] |
Here are a pile of pictures of work, ranging from newest to oldest. The old ones are from this summer when we were building out the main part of the office and extending the server room.

You will note the aforementioned light-up snowmen and candles on the first page of pictures. |

| | tired | ] | Whoo... late night, and been up since 7am. Brian and I met with our client tonight and showed her what we've been working on, and she seemed really impressed. We also fleshed some things out and worked out a "mini todo list" to keep us on track for our next milestone. And she paid us our Dec. 20th payment early, which is sweet. So this project is going very well.
Also showed Brian some stuff (Mac and general net stuff) and talked a bit. Ran into Blessen and Dave and discussed getting a large LOTR outing together. Apparently almost all of the Pipes are in too.
Work has been going well. Doing a lot of misc. stuff, including some phone, but nothing too frustrating. Been trying to slowly work towards some backup and redundancy on some core things to cover my ass in case things blow up someday.
Michelle is in CT for a few days so I am catching up on misc. odds and ends. I miss her, but after three months apart it really puts things in perspective and I can learn to deal :-)
Did I mention that Mac rules? I really need to write about all of this switching stuff sometime. But for now I am having fun with auto-configuring Internet as I move from home to the Union (for project meetings) to work and everything in-between. Just open the computer and start working. And Mail + Address Book + iChat + Palm + iCal integration, not to mention my 10GB of travelling MP3s, rocks my world.
This weekend is a decorating party at the old place on 9th St., Emily's 21st birthday and ensuing festivities, and maybe getting together with Brian for some geek, non-project fun. And next week is Two Towers!
G'night all. |

| | amused | ] | We just got an 800 number for work. As you may or may not know, it is hard to get an 800 number nowadays; usually people get 877 or 888 numbers.
Anyway, after our boss told us, we ran it through and got a couple funny combos as to what it spells:
1-800-KILO-REP 1-800-5-I-LOPER 1-800-5-I-LORDS
Surely this is the winner though:
1-800-45-LOSER |

bizarre |
[Dec. 5th, 2002|11:14 am] |
I usually at least skim a couple of people's weblogs in the morning, or at least mark them for further reading after work. And today I noticed not one, but TWO weird coincidences.
The first is that someone I read about, yet have never met, arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on November 27th, the same day as me. I might have even seen him on the beach, at breakfast, or anyplace else. This person's day-to-day activities are interesting to me, like many others on the web, yet despite that our lives may never intersect. Or will they...
The second is that someone ELSE's blog mentioned an interaction with a stewardess while flying to Raleigh a few days after I flew to Florida. Based on that mention, I know positively that I had the same stewardess on my flight.
How weird is this stuff? |
