Let's just hope we're never attacked during a rainstorm |

It doesn't bother me so much that the missile missed, even though they've never had a successful test in anything approaching real situations (i.e. when the interceptor wasn't pre-programmed with the target missile's flight path). I'm not even primarily concerned that "the interceptor experienced an automatic shutdown 'due to an unknown anomaly.'" Yes, that's right-- it just decided it was too tired to wake up.
No, what concerns me is this:The Missile Defense Agency has attempted to conduct the test several times this month, but scrubbed each one for a variety of reasons, including various weather problems... Apparently, we've spent billions and billions of dollars on a system that they won't even bother to try using during inclement weather. Thank God nuclear holocausts only occur on sunny summer afternoons!

There have just been three commercials in a row that used the chorus from "Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog" as a Christmas song. I'm not sure whose commercials they were, but I have to wonder-- has this song always been considered a Christmas song, and I just wasn't paying attention? I know Mariah Carey inserted it into her "Joy to the World" cover, but I wasn't aware it had made its way into the carol canon on its own merit. Please tell me I haven't spent the past years making sure I know all the verses to the Coventry Carol and "The Holly and the Ivy" only to totally miss Jeremiah's ascension to nativity greatness. |

I have not, in fact, been staying up until 4am every night this week (not that it would be unusual), no matter what my LJ post timestamps say. My laptop's simply still on EST. |

I'm in San Francisco, and I just called a friend from Los Angeles in New York to get the number of a conductor in Antwerp for whom I have to schedule an audition in Baltimore. The call was forwarded to his cell phone in Hamburg, where he's singing with a mutual friend who lives in Zurich. |

I bought: • black wool coat • 2 sweater vests • 3 ties • 2 scarves • pair of socks • belt • pair of Kenneth Cole black leather dress shoes
I need dress shirts and maybe a new sports coat. I thought I spent a lot more than I actually did, so I may go back later today. |

HI EVERYONE!
This is a guest post brought to you entirely by the letter E, the number 3, and wearingabeanie reporting live from Chris's ridiculously ugly hotel room. I know that he likes to put a positivie spin on things, but there's really nothing good you can say about this room. Even the view looks like a crime scene just waiting to happen. Don't even get me started on the bathroom. I already stole everything of use in there already. But i don't think that Chris can complain, really. People with bad personalities and small, flaccid members that refuse to work no matter how much you try to make them deserve ugly hotel rooms and genital warts. And no, i'm not bitter or frustrated. Shut up already.
Seriously, though: Chris and i had the best time. We turned over old ladies. tortured a waitress, and mistook a starbucks BARISTA for Lauren Baccall. When Chris gets his digital camera to work (and let's hope it's more functional than that poor excuse for a penis he....but i digress) he will post pictures of his wonderful stay in the city by the bay-and the most amazing sweater i will ever own! We're having the best time! Wish you were here.
OH AND SINCE I'M A WHORE: BE MY LJ FRIENDS TOO!!!!
MARK! OUT! |

I just went on a long walk up and down Market Street. I bought a Frosty and fries from Wendy's while wandering. I love dipping fries in Frostys. Even when it's cold. I got to see homeless people fight. These two very old men were punching each other and screaming obscenities while an old woman with a beard got in kicks where she could. She really didn't seem to care which of them she hit. A policeman broke them up as I approached, so I didn't get to see much of it.
San Francisco Symphony's Christmas concert features Peabo Bryson and En Vogue. I think they're singing excerpts from Rosenkavalier or something like that.
My hotel room is in the "historic" wing of the hotel. This means it's very old and very small for a queen-sized room. It's nice, though. All guests get 12% off at the Macy's across the street. I also have the 30% off coupon for Gap that Jonathan gave me, and there's a Gap just down the street. Thursday will probably be shopping day.
wearingabeanie is coming over when he gets off work, and he's bringing his hamster. We're going to go mug people. |

I was just chatting with a friend about Mary Poppins, and I found out that there was a movie made in the Soviet Union during the early 80s entitled Мэри Поппинс, до свиданья ("Good-bye, Mary Poppins"). Apparently, this was a relatively faithful adaptation of the Mary Poppins story, but somewhat refocused so that Mary Poppins' magic becomes a kind of class warfare against the bourgeois sensibilities of her employers.
There's an IMDB entry for it. I can't seem to find a copy of it, anywhere, though.
Why We Won the Cold War, Reason #124: While Julie Andrew excelled in every aspect of the role in the American version, Natalya Andrejchenko had to rely on Tatyana Voronina to provide Mary Poppins' singing voice for the Soviet version.
[edit: Found it!]
[edit #2: I found a Region 0 NTSC DVD copy with English subtitles. It should be here within two weeks.] |

There was just a commercial for one of those dating phone lines. The commercial featured two hot guys walking up to the front door of a strange house. Just before they knock at the door, one guy says to the other, "I hope this girl's as hot as the last one!" |
