To create a community, you will first need to be logged in to your personal account. This account will be associated with the community as the "maintainer account", and you will need to be logged in to it whenever you want to change something about your community.

At the Create Community page (http://www.livejournal.com/community/create.bml), you should enter a username for your new community. The username should not already exist. The rest of the page can be used to define various settings for the new community. You can change these settings later, if needed. When you have finished selecting your options, click the Create Community button to create the community.

Your new community will not have a password associated with it. It is not possible to log into community accounts. All administrative tasks should be done from the maintainer account.

If you have already created an account with the username you want to use for your community, you can convert the account. However, keep in mind that accounts that have been converted to communities cannot be converted back to personal journals. If the account has any entries, they will need to be deleted. While logged in as your personal account, proceed to the conversion page (http://www.livejournal.com/community/settings.bml?mode=create) and enter the username and password for the account you would like to convert. The account that you are logged into when you do this will become the maintainer account. The rest of the page can be used to define various settings for the new community.

While you are logged in as the maintainer, you can manage your community at the Community Management page (http://www.livejournal.com/community/manage.bml). Additionally, many LiveJournal pages have a "Work as user" drop-down menu, which will allow you to modify the community's information and settings rather than your own.
