These two came from my old, dilapidated, dog-eared Hans Christian Anderssen book I still have. I dunno who the artist is (since I cannot located the dismembered cover), however, the style bears remarkable resemblance to images posted here recently. Anyway, these two are from the story, The Nigtingale. The first shows the grandmother telling the story to the child. The second image shows the emperor. enjoy! :)

Tuesday by David Weisner In this ingenious and imaginative nearly wordless picture book, frogs in a pond lift off with their lily pads and fly to a nearby town. There they zoom through a woman’s living room as she dozes in a chair watching television, harass a dog frolicking in his yard, and distract a bathrobed citizen from his midnight snack. The unpredictable events of this particular Tuesday unfold before the reader with the precision and clarity of a silent movie. What will happen next Tuesday?

“I Was a Rat!” So insists a scruffy boy named Roger. Maybe it’s true. But what is he now? A terrifying monster running wild in the sewers? The Daily Scourge is sure of it. A victim of “Rodent Delusion”? The hospital nurse says yes. A lucrative fairground freak? He is to Mr. Tapscrew. A champion wriggler and a budding thief? That’s what Billy thinks. Or just an ordinary small boy, though a little ratty in his habits? Only three people believe this version of the story. And it may take a royal intervention—and a bit of magic—to convince the rest of the world. Set against the backdrop of a Royal Wedding—and a playful parody of the press, I Was a Rat! is a magical weaving of humor, fairy tale, and adventure.

by Morrell Gipson
An ornery bear gets his jollies by plopping his big butt onto the houses of smaller critters in the forest. A mouse, a chipmunk and a rabbit, recently rendered homeless by the furry lout, set up communal housekeeping in an abandoned bus tire. When the bear attempts to flatten the rubber dwelling, he is bounced right out of the neighborhood.
I ordered this book for my children after reading about it in an online children's book catalog. I can't recommend it highly enough. Gary Larson of Far Side fame also lists it as one of his favorite books. :)

The Cat That Walked by Himself from Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling
THIS is the picture of the Cat that Walked by Himself, walking by his wild lone through the Wet Wild Woods and waving his wild tail. There is nothing else in the picture except some toadstools. They had to grow there because the woods were so wet. The lumpy thing on the low branch isn't a bird. It is moss that grew there because the Wild Woods were so wet. Underneath the truly picture is a picture of the cozy Cave that the Man and the Woman went to after the Baby came. It was their summer Cave, and they planted wheat in front of it. The Man is riding on the Horse to find the Cow and bring her back to the Cave to be milked. He is holding up his hand to call the Dog, who has swum across to the other side of the river, looking for rabbits.
