I was just about to start talking about the snow here when I swear to god that I heard a yipey little dog here in the library. WTF, mate.

Any way, it's snowing here in Pullman. We have maybe 2 inches right now. I was kinda shocked, but it has been really cold here the last several days.

So I thought my History 491 and Com 460 papers were due tomorrow, December 1. Nope, they are due December 10. I feel really smart, but I need the extra time anyways, so I feel okay about it. I do have a small paper due in Com 460 tomorrow, but I don't think I'll get it done and I don't need the points that badly any way.

Why am I giving up on that paper so easily? Glad you asked. I have two basketball games in Clarkston to officiate. What blows is that the first, Girls JV, starts at 4 and the second game, Girls Freshman, starts at 7. Great. I'll probably get home a bit before 10, so any great amount of writing time is now gone. I do have a lot of games before Winter Break though, my paycheck should probably be around $250 after dues are paid. Not a lot, but it'll help. The next two checks should probably be bigger. Still, not a bad part time job for the amount of hours I put in.

I called the IT people yesterday and got that cleared away for now. I get to hang on to my computer for a little bit until I get my papers finished, then I'll turn it in to get it checked out. It's still really weird for me not to have the internet in my room. Since I have the permanent connection in there, I leave aim on all day. So everytime I leave my room now I still think about putting up an away message.

Seems like I had more to say, but I guess I don't.

I did go to China Buffet yesterday for lunch. That is always worth mentioning.

Back in Pullman and writing this damn thing from deep within the WSU Library... again.

Last night I burned some CDs for my nieces and sister. My sister seems to be quite impressed with Tegan and Sara which is cool. When I played guitar and sang for a bit yesterday Erica was yelling for "Walking With A Ghost" and Emily for "Speak Slow." Of course I replied with "what do I look like, a girl?" Of course I played them and sang in my macho manly baritone voice.

Later on I went to "The Garage." It is a garage in Tenino that is completely wired with a network for people to come with their computers and play games. It was cool/freaky. Any way, I was there to dump off some files on Nate and Josh's computers so I can turn in my computer to the IT people here all clean. I still don't intend to turn in my computer for a while. Screw em, I need it to finish my essays!!!

Almost made it to my meeting in Pullman on time (5 minutes late) as I drove straight there from Tenino. I have 11 basketball games to officiate before I go home for winter break. SWEET. I need the money badly.

I better get going, the library is gonna close here in a few minutes (because this school completely under-funds the library). To you few people I talk to pretty much everyday that are on here, I miss you tons and I hate being without teh internets.

Oh, the library and I are gonna be great friends. Be back tomorrow sometime...

Quick Update:

I'm at Tiff's and I can't get her scanner working. Most sad indeed. I did give her Tegan and Sara stuff, so all is good.

I went shopping yesterday with my mom, sister, and her two daughters. I totally picked out an awesome sweater and white collared shirt for Erica (15), but she didn't have the money for it. Oh well. She is currently burning cds from my collection with her friend who is at the farm visiting.

Looks like I'll have studio time at the Seattle Art Institute in early January, but still no musicians to help. Umm, hmmmm.

Might go over to Tim's later and see if I can get those Hook and The Daggers shirts he was supposed to make for me. They have a new album in the works as well. Full length, not EP. Very cool.

AND I'm heading back to Pullman tomorrow morning. I have a basketball officials meeting at 5:30 there, then it will be off to finish off a paper and start on another one. The joy.

Okay I love you bye.

How come no one told me, "hey idiot, you farked up your link to your myspace music profile in your last post." Yeah, thanks dudes.

Since I'm retarded, it is once again www.myspace.com/davemontgomery

Also, "Turn the Radio Up" will probably be in rotation by early next week at KCED 91.3 in Centralia. You know you all want to call and request it... even if you don't live anywhere near Centralia! The number is (360) 736-9391, extension 243. And while you are at it, request "Walking With A Ghost" or "Speak Slow" by Tegan and Sara... or both!

Thanksgiving was good here on the farm. My dad's brothers and their wives came over and we ate until we were stuffed, then ate pie! I think the average age at the table, aside from myself, was roughly 73.

After they all left, my dad and I actually discussed Iraq without getting pissed and yelling. AMAZING. Yes, it was note worthy enough to write here.

A side note: Peyton Manning is on my fantasy football team and with his performance today I'm pretty sure my team will a tenth game in a row. That is also pretty damn amazing. With my team staring right in the face of going 10-1, anything less than a championship would be disappointing.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving... well, at least you Americans that just had your Thanksgiving. I suppose that if I had to make a list of things I was grateful for, it would be freaking huge, so here's an abbreviated list involving things around me right now:

My nephew who is asleep on the couch for allowing me to work on my article on this noisy keyboard while he sleeps.
Regina Spektor for writing "Samson" which I'm listening to right now. Beautiful.
Tegan and Sara and Matt Sharp for allowing me to interview them and having such wonderful experiences with them. (And the articles I'm still working on, ugh)
My guitars, capos, and tuners. And the fact that I can actually hold a note vocally, that's good too.
My cat, she's bad ass.
Three different kinds of stuffing at the table this year.
Teh Internets and somehow being connected at this very moment.
College and my Van Wilder-esque career. If only I had a golf cart...
Dick Cheney for not poisoning George W. yet so he can become our cruel overlord.
Canada, thanks for being nice peace loving dudes. Please continue to import your good music here, I enjoy it.
My family, even if most of you voted for George W., I still forgive you. Haha!
A truck in which I can actually go to shows in far away places and take me to my basketball games in the small towns in Eastern Washington.
The Eastern Washington towns of St. John, Endicott, Tekoa, Oakesdale, Rosaila, Lacrosse, and Washtucna. Thank you for being such wonderful people and welcoming me into your towns, even as a basketball referee. Most importantly, thank you for supporting the kids of your towns so much in your schools. You are truly what makes small towns special.
And of course, all of you who read this damn thing. Thanks for being my friends, your kindness has always been appreciated.

And speaking of friends, Tiff, I have been planning to call you all along this week and was going to Friday because I figured you'd be busy Thursday. I have a poster and some other random T&S; stuff to give you, so good times are ahead!

Okay all, take care and good night.

2:10 am - My internets is limping along... ahaha, limp!
I'm coming to you live at 16.4 kbps! I've been connecting and reconnecting to Juno all night. It sucks so much.

I played in the Centralia College Radio Club annual Turkey Bowl. Damn good fun. My team won 5-2 which was cool. I made an interception and broke up a couple passes on defense which is usually my weak spot. On offensive I made a few good catches and played quarterback for a few plays. I threw one touchdown and one interception which was a wobbly throw that should have been caught. It was in my receivers hands and came out right into the defenders arms.

Wade (my old radio instructor) not only added Tegan and Sara's "Walking With A Ghost," but also "Speak Slow" into the station's rotation. Totally sweet. I played him my demo and he liked it as well. He's adding "Turn The Radio Up" into the stations's rotation as well which is pretty awesome. Actually, Ed was there for a little while and played "Radio" and then segued it into "Walking With A Ghost." I proclaimed it the best 5 minutes in that station's history, haha.

And if you still haven't heard my music, go to www.myspace.com/davemontgomery

I've been avoiding my paper more than I should, but tomorrow morning I plan on working on it a good deal in between watching Peyton Manning score me some serious fantasy football points and eating turkey and seasoned bread shoved up it's ass.

Also, [info]marieange is awesome for keeping me company tonight. Go say hi to her. And say hi to [info]mel16 and tell her books to go read.

And go listen to my music. Again.

2:35 am - I am home, yayayay!!!1!1
Hello from Tenino.

I made it home last night around 8pm, thanks to a long line of traffic between Pullman and Colfax. I actually avoided it by taking the back roads through Palouse and Garfield to Steptoe. Then from there I went through St. John to Sprauge on I-90. It was such a nice drive on those roads. I think that one of these days I'll find a mom and pop restaurant in those towns and make a trip out there every couple weeks for food. I just love the small town atmosphere.

As I'm writing this, I just don't know if I'll ever get it posted. I've connected to the internet 3 seperate times on my parents' machine and have been immediately disconnected. Juno just blows, at least the free version. I don't know what else to do really. My friend Dan was letting me use his families connection because they have unlimited internet, but they must have changed the password recently because I can't connect anymore. This summer I think I'm gonna buy an internet plan through our local phone company. It'll still be dial up, but I can't stand not having a stable connection.

I got my oil changed finally today. I was only 2000 miles over. My mom and I also went out to chinese for lunch which was awesome. There was so much that I only ate half and I have left overs for lunch tomorrow. Why did I even write this paragraph, you don't care!

I did play Halo 2 tonight at Grant's with 11 other people. Some how for the first game the 4 best people (out of only 8 at the time) were on the same team. I had 22 kills to only 2 deaths and we were all laughing our asses off at the carnage. Yeah, pretty geeky, but it's a lot of fun to get all your friends competing against each other.

Tomorrow, unfortunately, will be spent writing and reading. I'll probably break up writing my history paper with working on my Tegan and Sara article. I got so bus at the end of the week trying to get my machine ready to get back onto the internet that I forgot to work on it. Speaking of which, my friend Nate agreed to hold onto my music collection so that I can delete it and not get into any trouble with the school, so that's good.

Okay, since it is just way too hard to reply to every post I want to comment to individually with this computer, I'm doing a catch all comment post here

TBONE: Yeah, I noticed that the Wazzu community was eerily quiet considering the big game. I also caught that awesome post in the M's community last night, but haven't tried to delete yet. In fact, now it's probably a moot point and wouldn't matter much.

SCOTT: Thanks for all your advice and help, I appreciate it a lot. Also, I tried to look you up and call and I got the wrong number. Email me your number sometime so we can hang and you can kick my ass at Halo because I actually suck compared to people who play video games on a somewhat regular basis.

MIRANDA: I emailed you... umm yeah.

MELISSA and TOM: This is my rubbing the Apple Cup in your face. Ha Ha Ha. I can't get too excited because I almost feel bad about the 1-10 season. Almost.

MAGGIE: Thanks so much for the icon! I have no idea when I'll make yours. Actually, I'll probably be able to make one sometime next week, I'm just not sure how I'll get it to you until I get my computer back up on my school's network. Also, one of my favorite Christmas songs is "All I Wanted Was A Skateboard" by Super Deluxe. It's pretty funny and very Seattle mid-90's.

TIFF: I'm gonna call you either tomorrow (Tuesday) orat least sometime during the week. I have some Tegan and Sara stuff to give you like a poster.

DANI: Glad that you got to see Tegan and Sara finally and had fun! Here's a tip for next time: go talk to them last, that way you get them to yourself. That's how I actually got my interview (sort of, since I met them before the show), there was no one else around so they weren't on the spot.

KIMBAHLEE: Go get the last Leona Naess album. Very relaxing and soothing. Just might help curb your stress. Hope you feel better soon.

ABBY: Did you like the album? Also, I may have you do me a favor since I don't have soulseek going since I'm without the internet at school. I'll tell you about it later.

I can't think of any other comments that I had. So I hope you all are well. Just know that I'm reading everything you write, even if it does take me half and hour to get the computer to cooperate with me. Bed time, Take care!

7:41 pm - Kill Kill Kill
Sup Dudes,

So. I'm reporting to you all from deep inside the bowels of WSU's Holland Library. I suppose you might be asking why. Well, it's simple really, because

MY FUCKING SCHOOL HAS BLOCKED MY INTERNET PORT.

Yes, so appearently I must have been using too much bandwidth, which is very laughable because I don't use as much bandwidth as a ton of other people, especially those who download whole movies and have things like Peer Guardian making sure they can safely download and upload huge files. I don't get it really. I guess my downloading of a couple songs each day and chatting on aim is too much for the system to handle.

Here is a couple things I'd like to say before I continue hunting for my books here in the library:

SCOTT (Quadhome), tell things about this problem. WHY ME?! I'm planning on calling tomorrow to try to get this taken care of (I was blocked at 6, and hour after closure, how convenient!)

TBONE, if I'm still blocked during the weekend, this could potentially suck. I'm still wondering if some random UW person starts messing around the Wazzu community with Apple Cup and all. I was planning on watching things like a hawk, but perhaps not?

ABBY, I was blocked while talking to you on aim. I'm not a dick, I promise.

MIRANDA, if you have any problems with the boy or anything, email me. You can call me too if you have my number or I can call you or whatever. Just email me if you have a problem.

RACHEL, same for you, if you have a problem, email, call, something, I'll be around.

That's everyone I can think of at the moment. So yeah, hopefully this will get cleared up in the near future. I'll try to check my email and all that from the library or my friend's place.

Okay, back to hunting for books.

5:10 pm - basketball, Tegan and Sara on the radio, and new clothes
Finally I will work... and get that magical thing called money. Okay, I actually don't care much for money, but it's nice to buy more shirts at the goodwill, new cds, and maybe one day a new guitar.

For those who are new here or just plain forgot, I referee high school basketball and it's a lot of fun. I love going to these little towns around here, most have a population no bigger than 500. These towns live for their high school basketball teams. I love it so much. The energy, the atmosphere, the open space in the country.

My first game is not nearly as exciting though since it's at Pullman Christian. Basically I'm just not driving anywhere for the game. I have no idea if it's boys or girls or who the oppenent is even because I was called to do it yesterday. I didn't ask questions, I just said yes because I need the money. Hopefully I'll get paid before I go back to the westside of the state for break. It'll probably be $200-300, so that is exciting with Christmas sneaking up.

Last week I sent my old radio instructor, Wade, a ton of Tegan and Sara stuff.
See for yourself... )

Wade emailed me back on Saturday about the stuff:

Dave,
I got the CD and Yeah they are pretty good so I will add them to the
Preview catagory next week. ... Anyway I will add the song and just
keep me posted when the next song goes on the play list.
-Wade

Very exciting. The preview is the slowest rotating category, but at least it's some airplay (about 2 plays a day). Maybe I can convince him to move it up, but that's doubtful until they make it on the radio charts. I'll probably do something like this for a couple more stations, probably the U of Idaho's station and the one actual broadcast student station here at WSU. I'm also thinking about doing this for KMAS, where I still have some sort of connections, although I don't know if they'd have a chance of getting played there.

I'm still struggling a bit with my Tegan and Sara article for cdreviews.com. It's going to be a sort of comprehensive article on my three trips to see them in the past 2 months with the interview sandwiched in there. I just don't know where to start since I have so much I can write about. I suppose that's a good problem to have. I'm hoping to have something by the weekend so I can have my brother look at it.

I also bought a coat at Goodwill when I went shopping with Autumn. Before we went there we went to this place called the Needle Nook so that we could pick out some stuff so she can knit my a hat for Christmas. It's gonna be sweet. When we were at Goodwill I got to pick out some stuff for her. That was fun as hell. She ended up getting this red shoes that I absolutely adore but just didn't fit me. I was kinda sad about that. There was also this bad ass v-neck, sleeveless sweater that would have been awesome on her with a white collared shirt, but that didn't fit. I think one of these next couple days we'll go to the other thrift stores near here.

...and wow. I am the gayest straight dude ever.

My New Coat! Totally 1982. )

12:35 am - the not exciting post!
I haven't mentioned volleyball much, but Autumn and I have a team and we're doing quite well and having a ton of fun. Last week we picked up a really nice and very good player of the free agent list named Rita. Last week we won 3-0 and clinched a play off berth.

Tonight we won 2-1 even without Josh who is about 6'3" and has played on the club team. That left Colin (5'11") as the tallest player on our team over Shad and I who are 5'10". We all play well and get a long, so it's really fun. We also are playing as 5 instead of 6. Better to have one person down than adding another girl who can't play. That's how we won the championship last year anyways.

Last night I went with Scott to pick up Halo 2 at midnight. That store was quite possibly the biggest sausage fest I've ever been to. The game itself is fun but I wonder if it was long enough since Scott beat it already on normal difficulty. Then again, Scott might be the best video game player I know.

Not much else going on though except the 10 PAGE PAPER DUE TOMORROW.

Good thing I rock with pulling papers out of my ass.

I must wash the volleyball stink off me and get back to writing. Party on Wayne.

2:41 am - Tegan and Sara in Olympia
My friend Autumn made the journey to Olympia for the Tegan and Sara show on Friday. This was the first show that I've seen since my interview with them in late September in Seattle and I was wondering if they would remember me at all if they saw me or what their reaction might be...

There were three opening bands and after the first Autumn saw Sara and Ted (guitar/keyboards) come in. Sara was talking to him and a couple other people and I saw her looking over at me out of the corner of my eye. Not just one glance, but practically staring at me. Autumn and I kept talking (I mentioned her staring and that she probably recognized me) and I saw someone out of the corner of my eye and there was Sara! We talked for a little bit about Olympia and general stuff about the town, especially how laid back and quiet it is and the restaurants they went to. She even apologized if her breathe stunk because she just had garlic bread. Then a few fans came up and she signed some stuff for them. She continued talking to me for about a minute until the next act was about to start. She told me she would talk to me later because she wanted to watch and be respectful of the other acts

After the circus of a show thanks to the loud drunk girl right in front of Tegan, Autumn and I were hanging out by the stage kinda wondering where T&S; and the band had all wondered off to. Next thing I knew, Sara was right in front of me again. I welcomed her to Olympia (because of the drunk fan thing) to which she let out a sigh and rolled her eyes, and we talked for quite a while. We talked a lot about Matt and my interview. I thanked her a ton because their recorded message for him probably got me that interview. I told her I wanted to make a cd with all the little clips were we talked about her and her sister, but I decided to just burn the whole interview onto disc.

I eventually noticed a good amount of people lining up behind her want autographs and stuff, so we kinda wrapped it up and Autumn got her picture then. We said our goodbyes and she shook Autumn hand. I was about to reach out my hand and she came up and hugged me!!!

Okay, that was really geeky but appearently sharing 20 minutes in a minivan together talking about music makes you best friends.

Later on I went back on got my picture with her. She complained about a headache and the shitty hardcore punk being played on the speaker which wasn't helping. When the song ended with loud guitar feedback she let out a fake cry. I got my picture and wished her the best.

Sara and I making silly faces.

Seven more pics, woooo! )

The show itself was a bit lame thanks to that drunk girl who continued to yell "I love you Tegan," "Sara, you're my girl," or "play Speak Slow, it's my favorite, I would love it so much." She reached out at Tegan several times and was just so fucking crazy. Tegan and Sara will never forget Olympia, thanks to this girl.

Tegan did remember as well, but she wasn't in on most of the interview in Seattle. As they got off stage she saw me, patted me on the shoulder, and asked how I was. Sara used my shoulder to prop herself down from the stage.

Autumn and I talked to Tegan at the merch booth for about five minutes and Tegan was excited to hear my interview with Matt saying it would be cool to hear what he had to say about them. She also asked if the drunk chick ruined the show for everyone. Unfortunately I had to say "well, a little."

Always remember though, don't act like a geeky fan in front of your favorite musicians. You act geeky afterwards... when you make posts like this!

PS - They are so fucking nice. Damn.

3:19 am - More Tegan and Sara
After some packing, studying, and looking at microfilm for 2 hours, I think I'm ready for the weekend.

I neglected to mention it to most people, but I'm going back to the west side of the mountains to see Tegan and Sara in Olympia. Still seems weird that they're stopping there but I'm not going to complain. My friend Autumn still owes me money from buying her a T&S; shirt and the new cd, so she bought the ticket ($6, oooh) and will buy half of the gas. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't go because I'm poor. I almost ran out of things to have them sign but I realized that I have that Rockrgrl magazine with them on the cover. My friends Scott and Sam will be there too along with some people they know. Should be awesome as hell.

Before I go though, I do have a test in Economics, which sucks ass. Hopefully I'll do alright.

Not sure when I'm coming back to Pullman yet. I told Autumn that my house would be a nice place to get some homework done since it's so quiet there. My parents are going to be gone for the weekend so I will have free reign over the washer and dryer and, most importantly, the stereo. Best of all, my mom is leaving us homemade stew in the fridge.

I decided a few days ago that another mix cd was in order. In the past 5 months I've been to a decent amount of concerts and have seen some really cool bands. So I made a mix cd of several of these bands and other music I've been listening to the last couple months. The whole thing is 79:53 long and 23 tracks.

Check it. I'm a mix cd KING.

The Rentals came on as I was doing some reading on the internets, and it reminded me that I haven't posted any Matt Sharp pictures yet. I'll take some time later to make a big post with all of them, but here is the best of the bunch... well, at least for me!

If you're Friends with P., then you're friends with me you steal my blue sharpie.

So seriously, how long have I gone on and on about the song Friends of P? Well, here is the man who wrote it. Weezer founding member and bassist, The Rentals frontman, solo artist, and stealer of my blue sharpie: Matt Sharp.

In other words
I got my picture taken with Matt Sharp akfetbtui;!!!!111!1

Speaking of Friends of P., my fantasy football team has pretty much achieved juggernaut status. My opposing team scored 91 points, which is always much more than enough to kick anyones ass, but my team scored an incredible 105. The win makes me 6-0 after losing the first game of the season.

In much cooler news, I'm getting my hair cut at 1. If it turns out well, there will be before and after pictures. If it does not, I will be wearing a hat for the next month.

In much lamer news, I was tired last night at 10:30 and I used it as an opportunity to finally get my sleep schedule back to normal. I read in bed until about 11:15 and then went to sleep. This is big enough news to write here since I usually go to bed around 2-3 AM. I woke up on my own at 5:45, but slept in until 6:30. So strange.

Tegan and Sara show Friday night in Olympia! Autumn and I are going to drive over Friday afternoon for it. We may come back Saturday, but even if we stay in Tenino I'm going to spend the whole time reading and writing a paper. I kinda hope we stay for a bit, just being home on the farm relaxes me like nothing else.

Okay, I better stop typing in this damn thing and get ready for class.

3:55 am - Democracy, YAY!

I spent 3 hours today pouring over my voters pamphlet and looking up the candidates online; their personal websites and endorsements from major newspapers in Washington. Along with the three hours today was another two on Friday.

President was the first thing I got out of the way and it took forever for me to make up my mind on governor. FOREVER.

The five Washington State Initiatives took me a while to make up my mind as well. Some were easy for me though. Since Initiatives aren't such a personal thing for the people of my friends list (mainly because half of you live outside Washington) here is what I voted and why.

hooray for non-partisan politics... and look, I'm talking about politics without getting pissed off! )

3:08 am - I've heard rumors about a One-Fingered Salute on the Internets

He will surely go down as the classiest president we've ever had.

Download teh clip off the internets! Just think, he controls the largest nuclear arsenal on Earth!

Also saw the Presidents of the United States of America play here tonight and they kicked ass again. I was a little sad that they didn't play "Stranger," but they were so so good. Best of all, it was free. In between the bands they tried to have local candidates speak to the 1000 college kids and later a "debate" between the College Republicans and College Democrats.

One local candidate was this older lady and she asked us if we watched South Park last night. At the end of her brief speech to us, she urged us to vote, "whether it's the giant douche or the turd sandwich." Hot damn that was so funny to hear that from a lady who is at least 55 years old.

The debate was a bit of a farse. The two guys who took turns for the Dems were too quiet and hard to hear while the Repubs guy had horrible body language which made me feel like we were in an argument and he was laying into me. Overall, it seems like the Dems got the best of the Republicans. It also helps to have at least 60% of everyone there rooting for Kerry.

Okay, please proof read this thing for me!

(Livejournal hates indentations and what not, so ignore that.)

EDIT EDIT EDIT EIDUYRJE
Okay, just in case you missed my disclaimer at the bottom, because there is one, I don't really believe this stuff. It's a lot of fun to look at because it's so different. Got it? GOOD.

This paper will be a Marxist critique of the ABC / Disney television show “Boy Meets World.” This show promotes unquestioned conformity and blind obedience to the God of the Christians and the oppressive modern family structure that keep the Bourgeoisie in control of our everyday lives.

In this episode entitled “Cult Fiction,” Shawn accompanies a new friend in going to a place called “The Centre.” Within a minute of being the teen hangout, he realizes it is sponsored by a cult. However, Shawn is convinced to stay by The Centre’s leader, Mr. Mack who makes him feel welcome and does not judge him. Despite the objections of Cory, Cory’s family, Mr. Feeny, and Mr. Turner, Shawn continues to go to The Centre.

Later in the episode, Mr. Turner, Shawn and Cory’s teacher who has been “like a brother” to Shawn, is in a motorcycle accident and Cory’s family along with Mr. Feeny rush off to the hospital to see him. After much waiting by all, they see Shawn walk in with Mr. Mack because Shawn “can’t take this alone.” Shawn is eventually physically forced to stay in the hospital room with his comatose teacher. It is here that Shawn realizes the folly of his ways and learns that his family and extended family of friends have been there for him all along. At Mr. Turner’s bedside, Shawn turns to God.

“John, even when I was at the Centre, it was all the things you taught me that made me wonder if it was the right place for me or not. But you didn't teach me enough. You, and Cory, and my parents, and the Matthews and the handful of people who really care about me, so don't blow me off, John! (Looks up) Don't blow me off, God! …God, you're not talking but I know you're here, so I'm gonna talk, and you can listen... God, I don't wanna be empty inside anymore” (Boy Meets World).

“Boy Meets World” is merely a way for the Bourgeoisie to promote its “moral” agenda of oppression. It has been the modern family that promotes the exploitation of children and women for the financial gain for the ruling elite. The Bourgeoisie portrays the “All American Family” on television, an ideal that was created to make the Proletariat strive to be more like the Bourgeoisie; and the more the Proletariat strives to be like the Bourgeoisie, the harder they will work in the factories. “It compels them to introduce what it calls civilisation into their midst, ie., to become bourgeois themselves. In one word, it creates a world after its own image” (Marx 55). When Shawn begins to turn to an alternative family unit, such as The Centre, all of his friends and family disapprove vehemently.

While the United States has not taken lightly to young child labor on its soil, “family values” are promoted so that the Bourgeois/ Christian agenda is furthered so that women, an “instrument of production” will produce more children who will in turn fill the labor force at the companies and factories of the ruling elite (Marx 72).

While Christianity outwardly strives to make people better, it is merely a way for the Bourgeoisie to keep the ignorant masses pacified and in line. Marx and Engels themselves said that “Christian socialism is but holy water with which the priest consecrates the heart-burnings of the aristocrat” (Marx 79). Shawn’s prayer at the end of the show illustrates how the Proletariat should act because pleasing the Christian God is a way of pleasing the Bourgeoisie.

Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince outlines how a Prince can rise to, and hold onto, power in a country. Machiavelli writes that five qualities that a good Prince needs to “appear to have” is that of being “merciful, faithful, humane, upright, and religious.” Furthermore he writes “there is nothing more necessary to appear to have than this last quality” (Machiavelli, chapter 19). By bringing your country together by means of Christianity, it makes Proletariat even easier to control, thus assuring that they will not rise against the Bourgeoisie no matter how bad conditions might be for them.

Machiavelli continued his discussion of the masses when he wrote, “when they believe no longer, it may be possible to make them believe by force” (chapter 6). In this case, the force is not an army with cutting edge weapons, but popular rerun on the Disney Channel.

And to all of you, you might be asking "does he really believe this!?" Well, no, not really. It's a damn interesting way to look at the world though.

4:17 am - Oh so late...
Unfortunately, I didn't get as much work done as I wanted to, but I still have all day tomorrow to finish a few things. I will spend so many hours on this computer trying to finish a medium sized paper and two small ones. My next Mass Media Criticism paper will be using Marxist theory and Machiavelli to analyze an episode of...

Boy Meets World

It's gonna be awesome because Marx and Machiavelli rock.... sort of... yeah, very much sort of.

Softball is done until March for me, but volleyball is starting tomorrow. We'll have a decent team and are still known as Clown Shoes, even though there are only two members left from the old Clown Shoes teams that one 4 intramural championships here, 3 coed and 1 mens. They still have two pics of us on the champions pages on the intramural website. Last year's outdoor volleyball champions and the 6 on 6 indoor champions. I have a full beard in the last picture, go me, wooooo. Also in the last pic, we used only 2 girls so we had to play down one person. We kicked everyone's ass with 5 people rather than 6. After trying out a couple really bad girls for a sixth person, we decided to go with quality over quantity.

I know most of you probably don't care, but my fantasy football team is kicking ass right now. After losing the first game on the season, I've gone on to win the next five. My 5-1 record and 484 total points leads the league. In fact, the second place team has only 399 points. If you're curious, here's the team, the aptly named Friends of P.

This is also the first time I've done a fantasy football team without Grant or [info]chemolimo. Last year Jessie picked up Matt Hasselbeck as the last pick in the last round... he had a pro bowl year. Still by far the best fantasy pick steal I've ever seen.

Everyone should congratulate Miranda on the making out that will surely commence in the upcoming days.

I'm in a tiny bit of a songwriting funk. Songs for me come in waves, but I have some ideas for songs and it's just frustrating right now. I'll come up with some sort of catchy chorus/hook but then I can't come up with any verses or even a chord progression for a verse.

This dude I know here is in a band now and played at an open mic tonight. I didn't end up going in hopes that I'd work more on my homework (at least I read some). I'm happy for him but I'm kinda pissed to because we were going to jam until I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to try anything musically with him for my own sanity. Music wise, we could come up with some cool stuff I'm sure, but his politics is the problem. I know that seems really bad but every other time I talk to him I'm bombarded with gung ho Republican propaganda. No disrespect to the Republicans at large, especially my friends here who are, but I don't need someone else's political philosophies shoved down my throat.

Last year we were at a house with a bunch of other guys and I mentioned that if the top 200 wealthiest people in the world donated 3% of their wealth, it would provide basic health and education to the bottom 50% around the world (or something close to that. If you want to challenge this I can look it up in my notes). A bunch of the guys there looked at me in disgust and several said "they need to work for their money" and other things alluding to how it's their own fault that they are poor. I suppose it's a child's fault if they are born just outside a landfill on the outskirts of Mexico City. I suppose it's the child's fault if their mother and father have AIDS and live in the poorest part of Nairobi, Kenya. Yeah, IT'S THEIR FUCKING FAULT ALRIGHT!

It's people like this friend of mine here that would say this is a socialist program. Some call it socialism, I call it "being nice."

I suppose I'm the one spewing political propaganda now... but seriously, instead of waging war in Iraq against someone who had NO connection to 9/11 and trying to ban gay marriage, can we just go make sure people are healthy and taken care of?

Why can't we just have one big group hug and sing songs, dammit!

It's late but I'm barely tired because my nap was two hours today.. way too long. And as for more politics, I guess I'll cram a little more down your throats. Here is my quote of the day...

"Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship... voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

10:13 am - This wouldn't be the first time they ignored the facts...
"The Bush Administration has decided that it will stand by its approval for a book claiming the Grand Canyon was created by Noah’s flood rather than by geologic forces, according to internal documents released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER)."

Of course there is nothing wrong with being religious, but being a complete and utter dolt is another issue.

The sheer ignorance and stupidity of this administration has reached all new levels.
