2:48 pm - U2!!!
|
I know I haven't been around at all on Live Journal. I keep finding myself so busy with everything else in my life that I haven't really gotten in a LJ routine. Here's my latest attempt to use LJ.
For those of you who haven’t heard I won a trip to New York last week to go to a CD listening party with U2. I won the tickets on the radio and had airfare and accommodation paid for, so Melinda and I spent the past weekend in New York.
Melinda and I got back from our trip to New York monday and it was incredible. Naturally, the highlight for me was getting to see U2 at a CD listening party, the reason for going to New York.
There was a lot of speculation about what would happen at the listening party: if U2 would perform, if we would get to meet them, where the event was, etc. We ended up going to Sony Stages, a recording studio, in Manhattan. There were about 150-200 people there for the event. Music guru, Matt Pinfield, hosted the event. When Matt came on stage, he said hello, let us know the event was also a live broadcast played around the world and commenced playing the first track off U2’s new album, Vertigo. About 2 minutes into the song, U2 came out and everyone began cheering.
While the songs played, Bono sang along with the CD, which was so cool to see since they weren’t going to perform that night. The Edge backed up Bono on a few tracks.
Before the event, the record label’s “people” gave everyone a card to let us ask U2 a question. The record label and U2’s management sorted through the questions and picked out about five people to ask U2 their question in between the playing of the songs. Melinda was one of the fortunate people selected to ask her question about the contents of Bono’s briefcase which some on stole from him in Portland and returned to him 23 years later, and his plans with it. Bono had a good laugh about the question because the contents of the briefcase were such a flashback. He had some lyrics written in the book as well as things to say to an audience during a show, with lines like “We’re U2 and this is our new single.” They had to start somewhere.
At the end of the listening party, Adam Clayton stepped down off the stage and into the audience, a rush of people got out of their chairs and hurried over to the stage. The rest of the band followed but didn’t stick around long. The Edge left within a couple minutes. I was lucky enough to meet and get an autograph from Bono and Adam Clayton (bassist) on a U2 picture my mom drew for me. I met Larry Mullen Jr. (drummer) but he didn’t’ have time to sign the drawing. Melinda met Bono and Larry Mullen Jr. as well as scoring their signatures on her tour book from the Zoo TV tour when she saw them in Australia. The whole night was a great experience and I really feel lucky that I was able to win the trip and have a chance to meet my favorite band.
The rest of New York was great but we stayed at a hotel in Time Square so we were in the middle of everything in Manhattan. I didn’t have nearly enough time to stop and enjoy much of the city. There was so much to see and so little time to do any of it. I barely scratched the surface and am looking forward to going back to explore more.

9:22 am - Holy poop!
|
So this weekend was Bumbershoot weekend in Seattle, it's a big music and arts festival that happens every year. Since I had to work and go to a wedding I only made it to 2 shows but they were the best. Saturday night my wife and I went to see Dandy Warhols. They played a great show but the setlist we got afterwards was way off. I had a great time there and luckily they played a lot of what I wanted to hear. Monday was even better though. I had to work but I was able to head down in the evening to see R.E.M. play. The arena was packed but we still had a decent spot. R.E.M. put on close to a two hour show, which they also played the rare World Leader Pretend, a couple of great sounding new songs, and several of my favorites like At My Most Beautiful. After the show we were also able to snag a setlist and we headed out in search of R.E.M.. We found a place where they were having an aftershow party, unfortunately it was invitation only and needless to say I wasn't on the list. So we waited, and waited and all the waiting paid off in the form of meeting Michael Stipe! My wife got the setlist signed and we got our photo taken with Michael before he headed inside.
This has been a good year for meeting musicians. So far we've met Michael Stipe, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Tim Wheeler of Ash, and pretty much all of Idlewild. I'm feeling really good but tired this morning.
In other news I picked up a snowboard yesterday. I hope the snow is good this year because I'd really like to go up and practice several times. I'm hungry...

This weekend was pretty poopy at work, my boss is fairly selfish which doesn't go well in the retail world. I've lost any respect for her. I'll let her lies pile up and try and move on.
In other news Bumbershoot is next weekend!!! Yay! I'm going to go see the Dandy Warhols on Saturday. I'm hoping I can make it on Monday too so I can go see REM, Cafe Tacuba, and possibly the fantastic Imperial Teen.
Unfortunately I have to miss Radiohead on Sunday, I'd like the wife to go but she's unsure and doesn't want to go alone. I hate working weekends.

10:25 pm - This is totally sweet
|
So out of curiosity I check my friends list in the profile section and I see some unfamiliar names. I look at one ot the journals and it's some Russian dude with a journal all in russian. I can't understand a thing but it's freaking cool. Another big plus are my other long time LJ buddies in Brazil (Brasil), Australia (including my wife, no dingos better eat her baby *she has no baby anyway*), and Germany (Deutchland), and of course across America. It's all so comforting to me, someday we'll meet and have a long awkward silence. :)
I'm looking to cook something tomorrow, I think it'll have to be eggplant parmesan. It's easy and good. I may have to challenge myself soon and finally make a vegetarian moussaka. I'd prefer a meaty version but someone's a vegetarian.
Oh well, back to the job hunt...

I've been trying to find some new music that excites me lately. Since I'm no longer in college and no longer Dj'ing I guess I haven't had as much exposure. Seattle's radio has gone way down hill over the past few years so I still try to look over seas.
I want to find the Star Spangles, I heard a couple of songs once but I don't think the album is available in America yet. I have the Postal Service, that is good. I also recently picked up Rooney. I've been waiting for this album for close to a year. I first saw Rooney play with the Strokes and I picked up a free 3 song sampler for Rooney. I played it to death, but it's soooooo good.
New Travis is on the way within the next few months, I believe a new single will be out in September. U2 is hopefully releasing an album next year. I'm looking for someone, somthing new.
Any suggestions are welcome. I'm really looking for something with a raw sound like the Strokes, White Stripes, early Iggy Pop. Energy and realism, gimme rawk!

8:12 am - I remember me
|
I've been away far too long. I kind of got burnt out on LJ for a while but I have a renewed interest in writing again. I guess I'll see how things go from here.
So here's my very brief update...
I've gotten married I still working at a poopy job, but I'm fortunate to have one since many don't. I make a bad ass pesto. My second favorite band is Idlewild, U2 will always be the first. The guys from Idlewild are really cool. I'm sure I have countless stories, we'll just ahve to save them for another day.
It's still early, I need to wake up but I will try to post more soon.
See you soon.

3:09 am - God gave Rock and Roll to you
|
Now I'm pissed, in my interest section I wanted to modify it because I was getting tired of looking at it. LJ won't let me include "Rock n' rolling all night", but I can put on "partying everyday". How lame is that, I can't have half an interest sitting there. I bet KISS are rolling in their graves right now.

I'm finally going to the land down under in two weeks. I'm pretty excited to see Mel and actually meet her family seeing as we're engaged and all and I've only really talked to her folks on the phone briefly. I'm looking forward to it and I guess I already have a very full schedule while I'm there. I'll gladly go and do what Mel wants to do while I'm there, it's her turn to show me around a bit. Plus I can go music shopping in another country, I'll find all sorts of goodies.
The flowers in the corner are dying, I like having flowers around. I wish I had money to buy fresh ones regularly. I guess I'll have to buy some potted ones and raise them but it's just not the same. Oh well.
I saw the new U2 video for Electrical Storm today. I love that song, I need to watch the video again. The video was directed by Anton Corbjin I like him and he's been working with U2 for a while now. I think my favorite video of his is Depeche Mode's enjoy the silence. I need to buy their video collection.
What I really need is to go to bed, sweet dreams all.

Good lord!
I know it's exciting to have a song before everyone else but paying that much for 2 songs that will be available in a month is ridiculous.
p.s. Shut up Todd and Mel, I've never paid that much for just one U2 CD.

2:12 am - New U2!!!
|
After a weird day at work, it's nice to find 2 things.
1) An email from Mel who's off visiting relatives in Adelaide.
2) The brand new single from U2 for the upcoming greatest hits 1991 to 2000 cd to be released in November I believe.
Plus the boys were working on a song for a soundtrack to a Martin Scorsese film.

Let's see if I even care to do this anymore.
I don't feel like going through the "I'm still alive" routine so I won't.
I'm depressed right now because Mel left to go home back to Australia yesterday. We're engaged and have been for several months now and we're just waiting on the US fiancee visa to come through before she can move back here. Once we have the visa we must get married within 90 days or she must go home. I think it's a game that INS invented to keep themselves amused at everyone else's expense. I understand why they do it I guess I just don't have to like it.
I seriously hate retail, I can't wait until I get another job but I've been looking for over a year now and I've had no luck. I know it's not me because it's happening to everyone I know at the moment. We all graduated just a year too late for all the good jobs. I guess I can't complain too much. I have a full time job, it pays decent. What ever.
I'm sure I'll have something more amusing to say later.
It's time to go make some changes...

So I was thinking, as I've been known to do. I'm rarely ever online anymore and I miss my friends on here so I suggest you all come and visit me here in Seattle and we have a "Hooray for Corey party" in celebration of me, Corey. Anyway when I have more time I'll write more I'd love to talk to everyone. Come join my party!

NOOOOOOOO Mel recorded over my Pulp "This is Hardcore" promo video. I'm going to have to search everywhere to find it again. In better music news Weezer is returning to Seattle and they're bringing Tenacious D with them. I'm excited for that, I just hope I can get tickets. On monday I'll be going to see REM, Pearl Jam and a few other bands rock my ass with the exception of Alanis Morrisette. I'd rather not see her.
I have to go off to work now. Listen to some U2 and dream of me.
Happy Birthday Kel-e

Last night I had a dream I was at Tom Morrello's house from Rage Against the Machine. I was hanging out in a bedroom with Peter Buck when all of a sudden Courtney Love came running into the room crying that Michael Stipe just died. We quickly ran over to the other bedroom and there he was. Suddenly I was watching MTV News watching the story and I couldn't believe that I was actually there and I couldn't do anything to help him. The news report said Michael died from heart problems.
I guess it's my duty to keep Michael Stipe alive so I can go see him perform with R.E.M. in a few weeks. Other than that I'm working a little at Fred Meyer once again. Whoopee! I guess it will give me money until a real job comes along.

Hi-ho Yeroc the frog here and we have another great show for you today... I wish I was a muppet.
Mel came down to visit once again for the weekend, I'm so glad she does because I think I might go craz(y/ier) if she didn't. I'm bored all I do is look for jobs, wait for employers to call, and wait for my old workplace to hire me back. This is the life!
I guess if I ever did anything I would have more to tell. So until then keep on keepin' on.

I now declare the year 2001 as The Year of Death.
I think pretty much every one I know has known someone who has died this year. Myself included.

Hello once again. I'm at the library looking up jobs but not coming up with much so far. My summer has sucked as a result with exception of the weekends. On the weekends Melinda has either come down to visit me, or I travel up to Canada to visit her. She's good at keeping me sane. I wish I could sit around and post more messages/ talk with y'all but no such luck. I miss you guys and I hope I'll be able to talk to you all soon.

I just turned in my last project ever. I feel rather unfulfilled, I was hoping to take a test and finish it early so I could make a scene or something but I don't get to now.
Oh well I'm movin' on up eventually. I won't be on much since I don't have a computer at home and I don't have the computer labs at my disposal anymore. I'll say hello to y'all when ever I can. As soon as I get a job I should have computer access and I can once again transmit my love through various ones and zeros. Leave a message, send an email. I'll respond when I can. I'll still try to watch you from afar.
Be cool baby, be cool.

I've got several 80's hair metal songs stuck in my head. Yesterday I had Motley Crue's "Shout at the Devil", today it's alternating between Poison's songs "Unskinny Bop" and "Every Rose Has It's Thorn". For many people this would be a bad thing I just laugh it off and let it keep playing.
Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad, song... Every rose has it's thorn
