Holy crap... I don't think I have to take the final to get an A in networks. I will anyway, just in case, but this is too cool. *grin*

Anatomy of a Blog God-Debate. I'm particularly amused by Round 8. It's too true. ._.

Flying with balloons! What child has not thought of doing this?

This reminds me a lot of the link up above. I wouldn't mind so much, as long as their views are consistent, dammit.
MATTHEWS: How old were you when you chose to be heterosexual?
FALWELL: Oh, I don't remember that.
MATTHEWS: Well, you must, because you say it's a big decision.
FALWELL: Well, I started dating when I was about 13.
MATTHEWS: And you had to decide between boys and girls. And you chose girls.
FALWELL: I never had to decide. I never thought about it.

    Creativity.

If all goes as planned, I'll be able to get a 40% on the final in Networks and still get an A. =]

A draft archetype in Champions that relies on decking your opponent. Beautiful.

Some Abstinence Programs Mislead Teens, Report Says. Argh. Seriously. Hmm. Misleading scientific information being presented to advance a biased moral/social agenda? Hmm, where have I seen this before?

    The laundry rug!

I'd be very amused to be bombed by origami cranes.

    The evolution of a programmer.

I didn't know drunken dialing was so prevalent!

I kind of want one of those mini ice cream makers... the yo-yo looks fun as crap, and the rolling one also looks quite amusing. No real reason, except that they look like fun. I'm very tempted to get one. =)

Well... how are they going to prove that he's not telling the truth? *chuckles* I suppose it is a form of coercion or something, but it would be amusing to have the prosecutors interpreting the will of God.

Someone seems unhappy with his Software Engineering group. Amusing to stumble across stuff like this online.

jEdit impresses me. It's now my default text and code editor in XP. Yeah, I know, I'm a vim whore, but it's just too annoying to use vim in Windows. I'm not sure why, but I think it might be because of my ingrained habits when using a Windows machine.

I remember people referring to the gel hand rests as being breast-like before.

    How to fondle someone?

The nifty HP iPod cover things.

Using Privoxy to create a Google News RSS feed. (A link for myself. I don't think anyone else uses both Privoxy and RSS.)

Mmm, I saw a commit for Adium that has the beginnings of a file-transfer status... thing. It would be nice to not overwrite the names of files being sent to me via AIM. ^^

I think that I am going to move to Jabber next year. So... yeah. Most of the people who I IM regularly can use Jabber. I can't think of too many people who don't, but I'll convince them to do something about it. Or perhaps set up the AIM transport on my server, although I don't know exactly how that works (or if it even exists... I think it does). We'll see. This'll let everyone delete my multiple screennames from their buddy lists, at least.

    My poor baby...
I had to send mirepoix off to get her hard drive repaired. *sniff* They said that it was going to be a crunch due to the holidays, so it would take longer than usual for me to get it back. So I gave mirepoix a kiss goodbye, and I guess I'll see her the next time I come home. (If it gets here [NoVA] earlier than expected, I am definitely going to drive up and retrieve it, grr.)

On the other hand, I ran into Vidya, who was working at the Apple Store! That was unexpected, but pretty cool. Kind of weird, too. =)

I also discovered that I do have (kinda) a life goal! I want to be able to peel apples like Sakai does. ^_^

    Random post...
Hmm... people who got PowerBooks: Casey, Alpha, Brendan, Anindo, Adam, and Aprotim. Amusing how we all have names within the first three letters of the alphabet.

Edit: and Andy (Barros) too! It all fits!

Edit #2: and John (Hunolt), but that's an outlier which I'll ignore for now. Or I can just restrict the set by saying that we're also all from TJ '01! Ha!

Hmm, I really have to run that hdd diagnostic on my laptop. I've been putting it off for too long. But as long as my laptop survives until after the final, it's okay, I guess. *cringe*

    Laptop hdd-related things to do:
    - run hdd diagnostic (CD is at Tech, d'oh)
    - back up everything (I've been intending to use rsync/svn to sync my homedirs across the board, but haven't gotten to that yet, alas. svn for school stuff, rsync for other directories, probably? Haven't figured a scheme out for that yet.)

    Awesome tattoo.

Hack Yourself. Make yourself a better person. It's like C = G + LT. The only thing you can control in that equation is your rate of learning. In your life, the only thing you can control is yourself. So do that!

What do you want to do with your life? I don't know. All my goals are short term goals. I want to learn ruby, get better at using vim. There's really nothing I really want to do with my life. Strange.

Dammit, I need to bring my camera to any more potlucks that I go to.

Something that I miss in Windows is the command+. key combination, which cancels out of pretty much any dialogue box in OS X. I just tried to hit Windows+. on my XP box. ^^

Time to go home! (Soon.) I hope I'm not forgetting anything....

Crossdressing != homosexuality. Geez, why can't they get it right?

Americans don't have taste. It's kinda true. Certainly explains why I haven't seen a single good looking American laptop that isn't an Apple yet.

Scramjet test flight good! Very cool stuff. Mach 9.6+.

Yay, turkey! I lurv teh potlucks. Found out from Jeanette on Friday that someone needed to bring a turkey. Not sure what I was thinking when I volunteered Chia and myself for the task. But we got it prepped between 9 and 11 this morning, and let Jeanette put it in the oven, since we had class during the time that it would be cooking. 13 pounds of turkey, 30+ people. It was almost all gone, so that seems like a good amount of turkey for that many people. Yum yum! I love potlucks. ^______^

And I still have the neck and gizzards, so I guess I can make gravy from those sometime. And eat them? I've never had either of those before, and I'm not sure how they're supposed to be prepared. Oh well. I'm not too concerned.

So that makes a potluck on Saturday, one today, and we're grilling tomorrow before the game. Yes, it's a good week. *grin*

I thought I would be very busy this week. But my projects are done, with only the reports left to do. The C&D; homework is due Weds, so I have plenty of time to work on that. A potluck on Wednesday night, and we're making a turkey! Why I volunteered for that, I don't know. The MD game is on Thursday night, and we're cooking out before that.

So the current plan is to finish the multibody project as fast as I can, since that's due Thursday morning. The C&D; is due during class, so I'll finish that up tomorrow night. The NAD project is due Friday at midnight, so I can actually wait quite a while to get that done. If everything else gets finished, I'll work on that, but otherwise, I'll finish it on Thursday. Wednesday morning I'll go over to Chia's and we'll work on the turkey. There's a lab practical tomorrow, but I'm not concerned about it. It's only E2 lab, and it should be pretty easy. I think that covers most of the bases.

And grar! There goes my 100 average in NAD. *grin* 97 on the latest project, for not including evidence that my program worked. I guess I'm going to have to include logfiles and screenshots into my next report. Bleh. Down to a 99.4 in the class. ^_^

Okie-dokie, time to get to work on the multibody report!

How many times is the ball passed between people in white shirts?

Filenames are ridiculous, especially for documents. Perhaps everyone should just head their documents with relevant information and use smart folders. *ponders* I wonder if I'll be able to do this with 10.4.

Hmm, the Unhinged prerelease is on the 20th. And there's a location in Falls Church. Hmm?

The Resident Evil chainsaw controller is pretty nifty, but I'd rather have the slime one from Dragon Quest (I think that's the game).

I could have sworn there's a reason that we have multiple branches for the government... I guess I was wrong! Thanks, Mr. Ashcroft, for disabusing me of that notion. I'm quite glad you're leaving.

The more I program in Windows, the less I like it. Actually, to be more accurate, the more I dislike it. Things are just so annoying to do! Perhaps it is because I'm just not used to it, though.

We had a small (10 person) potluck of asian CpEs. (With the exception of one Psych major and Jen, who isn't asian.) And goodness, everyone cooked pretty damn well. I was quite surprised, since you wouldn't expect a group of CpEs to be able to do so. But there was all sorts of food, mostly entrees. (No one expected everyone else to bring stuff!) All around goodness. Very, very fun. I think there will definitely be more of these gatherings, and I do look forward to them!

Hm, what was there... Indian fried bread things? They were quite good! Well, everything was quite good, so I'll refrain from saying that over and over about the other food. Chicken curry, beef and mushrooms, sauteed mushrooms, shepherd's pie, tofu with sauce, two Indian dishes, lasagna, fried cauliflower, and probably some more items that I'm forgetting. Mmm. So good! And further evidence that people of our persuasion tend to like to cook! (Being a nerd goes hand in hand with cooking? Hehe, looks to be pretty true.)

Let's see. Multibody individual project due Thursday morning. Networks project due Thursday night. Football game Thursday night. Thanksgiving potluck Wednesday night. Which I somehow managed to volunteer to bring a turkey. (What the fuck was I thinking!?) So, I have to finish the Multibody by Weds afternoon, and hope for the Networks project to be postponed to Friday. I've already finished the coding for the project, but I have to write the report for it. Shouldn't take too long, but it would be nice if I could wait until Friday to send it in.

Oh, Terminal.app, how could I live without you? What would have taken me an annoying amount of time is reduced to a single wget statement, and an ls -R wired-cd | grep mp3 | wc to check that it did grab all 16 mp3s. The elegance! The efficiency! (In hindsight, I forgot that grep has a -c flag. But I always forget about it. ^^)

Two of my most favorite things... elegance and efficiency. Perhaps that is why I love my PB so much. I admit that sometimes, it's better to keep things simple rather than elegant or efficient. Although in most cases, I think that a part of elegance is simplicity.

I am really, really glad that I can fall asleep almost at will. Yikes. Even when I'm "sleepless", it's not nearly so bad, since I just have to exert some effort to stop thinking.

jEdit is pretty nice for my XP box. I haven't noticed any absurdly long loading times, even with a bunch of files open. Although I didn't realize it would reload with the files that I left open from the last session. I wound up with 10 or so files in jEdit from various projects and documents... all loading every time I opend jEdit again. Whoops. ^^

I thought that Zatoichi was excellent. I loved the way the music was presented throughout the movie and really enjoyed the feeling of the action scenes. It was efficient, rather than elegant, unlike the standard asian action scenes. You see the movement occur, and it is finished before you can consciously process it. I thought the acting was superb, especially on Kitano's part. The way Zatoichi moved was perfect. And it was quite amusing, with the idiot neighbor, stupid nephew, and the crazy dancing sequence in the end. I definitely recommend it to anyone who gets a chance to watch it. And if anyone could find it online, I'd be eternally grateful.

Andy and Ian seemed not to like the movie so much, so perhaps it falls into the category of one of those "crazy asian movies". =P
