cheers to the contest entrants thus far... those of you still working on your entries, hurry up! deadline is in a week. so today i got to salvage a junkie squat in u-district. it was pretty fun wading through all the needles, porn, bags of junk food and reading all the sharpie art on the walls. the score of the day was finding a full set of poker chips, yippee. once again there was golden opportunities all around them that they didn't have the clarity to see - like the gorgeous clawfoot tub two people could have wheeled down the street and sold for $600. that would have kept them high for at least a week... we showed up to the house at 9 am and had to abruptly wake up dude and girl and send them on their way. no complaints seeing as i wasn't charging them with trespassing or vandalism like the contractor would have... then later in the day i saw two kids shooting up in the alley with some big scary old guy with tattoos all over him. the kids couldn't have been over 16 years old. nice. tomorrow i think i shall rent a couple of the movie recommendations and begin screening. this could take a while, mind you - but i fully intend to live up to my promise. the runner up will get their prize way before the grand prize winner, as i want to see all these unknown films first. so far alice and liquid sky are the only contestants for runner up. i should watch liquid sky again anyhow, i barely remember it.... stick that in your syringe and shoot it! |

inspired by writing a list of movie recommendations, i have decided to do a little mini contest. the contest is who can recommend the best video / dvd for me to rent. there will be two winners - the person who recommends the best movie i have never seen will be the grand prize winner. this person will win a trip to see the movie of their choice with me. the person who recommends the best movie i have already seen will be the runner up and will receive guest list entrance to robo-trash and a free drink ticket. (if you are under 21 other runner up prizes will be arranged...) rules: no more than 5 recommendations per person. i will probably only rent one of the five recommendations so they should be in order of 1st to last choice. make sure you don't recommend something someone else has recommended. any movies i have mentioned in any way form or fashion on livejournal will be not considered for the runner up category. good luck. |

wow, hennessey is yummy... okay, my working/drinking binge has come to a pause. last night went really well, i got to play my film (the apple) to a pretty perfect audience - a gothic fetish show. i also busted out "the black glove" - a really kinky black and white s+m film which got the crowd all excited to see the leather and buckles come prancing out on stage. i love arman. he is one of the co-owners of the catwalk. if only everyone in the club scene were so hospitable!! first thing he did was walk me over to the bar and introduce me to his lead bartender. "give this guy whatever he wants - all night!" so i drank top shelf scotch and hennessy and didn't even need to use 2 drink tickets per drink. he also kept coming up to me telling me he loved how i did this or that mix or juxtaposition... and he paid me full price. please let there be more catwalk shows.... oh yeah - there is an article about me in this months minty magazine - yay kris!!! most of the quotes were sort of fabricated, and he left out the part about me getting in a fight with paul oakenfold on stage, but overall i thought it was pretty good. so phoenix fest is less than a month away. lets get seriously rowdy this year!!! |

okay, i don't have time to recap the past ??? weeks since my last post, so i will recap the last 3 days instead last night: portland phoenix festival pre-party at the b - complex. i got the text portion of my nato patch relatively done, so the first thing i projected to the world with it was "spank me with moon rocks!!" which either amused or confused people at about a 50% ratio. i think i had a really good time at this all - ages, no - booze party because heidi and i left every 45 minutes to the bar down the block to do shots of tarantula with (free!) beer backs... do we have beer backs in seattle? anyhow - the music was okay. freaky chakra played hard techno with dual mpc 2000's which was cool. pollywog finished the night with a horrible mix of jimi hendrix and sinead o'conner and about every genre of music that should not be fit together. which was cool because it cleared out the party early so i could take my then drunk self back to sid and joes house. thursday was geek night at the alibi room, and that was pretty fun. pq playyed his usual mix of downloaded mayhem for a little less time per mix than required to make you scream at him (although a few people screamed the instant richard marx came on - some people just dont get it...) i played a bunch or really terrible japanese robot movies and drank scotch. wednesday i was recovering from the flu, so i drank jagermeister (it at least tastes like medicine...) at robotrash. i was bummed because i thought hobo trash was gonna play indoors (they didn't) and i had brought all my obnoxious films for their set. i played them anyways, but without the same impact they could have had. so thats it. tonight i am doing a fetish fashion show at the catwalk (rawr!!!) so if you want to find me and spank me with moon rocks there you go. awright i have been more busy than my preferred amount of busy-ness allows, so certain things have taken a back seat in my world, like writing in this silly publication... i have not, however, been too busy to sit in a hot tub with 6 beautiful naked people watching movies all night. which is why i am now delirious with sleep dep. oh well, you gotta take whatever buzz you can get your hands on sometimes, and sleep dep is better than robotussen or nutmeg. i have been insanely committed to getting all the technicallities tied up for the below mentioned performance starting this thursday. the piece itself looks really beautiful, and dark, and surreal - but it feels like it is missing something, a climax or... an ending? dunno. you should go and tell me. natalie and i are... talking again - which probably doesn't mean much to those who didn't know we weren't talking, or those who have no clue who she is. really what that means is she and i will be making more gothic/surrealist movies together. she found a box of all these amazing dolls from the '20s. they are all broken and fucked up, with really strange expressions. our plan is to go out to the desert and make some film using them as the main focus. i shall put it up when it is finished. we may also do the final part of the apple series, although that might have to wait untill next winter - i really wanted snow to fall during the shoot, does it snow on mt ranier in june? the viscious cycle continues tomorrow with robotrash. opening night is thursday for 5000 falling souls, saturday may or may not be the bohemian after hours, and the rest will hopefully be play time. i am tired of having to work so hard at what i am playing with. really looking forward to oode (thanx matt!!!!). trees. niiiice. |

okay - finally got soulseek up and running and now searching for do make say think.... found a few, no decent transfer speeds yet... i should be up a lot, but not necessarily staring at the monitor. i am tracer if you want to try and find me there. today has not been the hotbed of productivity i dreamed it to be earlier this morning. in fact, i am not doing anything to get ready for the fashion underground show right now, or at all today really, and am feeling a bit guilty, for i wont have any time after tomorrow... i did however get matts pc up and running, had lunch with a friend, looked for a pair of diesel jeans for less than $100 (unsuccessfully), began looking for a usb video camera, and a whole bunch of other things i cant afford. i might go down to the bohemian tonight, but that is not certain. i don't want to pay, and shouldn't have to considering i work there every other week, but i don't know the staff very well yet, so who knows. jerry is playing, which is the only reason i would even consider it at this point. i should really stay home and work on shit, arrrgh! still in limbo regarding many things right now. i am trying not to make any commitments beyond phoenix festival, but this will get more difficult as summer arrives. i really need to get more substantial work in this video world. as it is now i will be 40 and still owe the same amount to various finacial institutions. treading water in that sense. anybody have any suggestions for music to download? |

so i finally made a copy of my two films for the rain city video store in fremont. hurrah!! here is what the front and back cover looks like:![]() ![]() i don't know if it will ring anyones bells, but the solarized black and white shot of natalie and the apple was taken at sand point in the solarium set from the stephen king "Rose Red" movie that aired on abc a few months ago. we did the shoot during some sort of sailboat convention down there after the movie crew had left. we had to climb through a window and risk getting caught with a naked girl, fake blood, and a video camera. what fun some hobbies can be.... |

okay, i hate to take back derogatory comments i have made in the past... so i won't. but what i will say is this: kid 606 rocked last night. i finally witnessed a set that remotely owned up to his world reknowned title as king of the glitch core powerbook cowboys. not that i think he is the king of such an imaginary fairyland, just that his set was actually pretty fucking good. that also didn't make up for the cocky primadonna you're-not-worthy-of-talking-to-me sort of attitude he gives me every time we do a show together. but whatever... gold chains is a fucking badass. and he gave me a free t-shirt when i told him i would cut the sleeves off hehe. we talked for a bit and he made a weak promise to try to bring me down to san fran to do a couple of shows. won't hold my breath, but the gesture was flattering... it always amuses me how much of a kick people get out of the 16 mm stuff i do. here we have like $30,000 worth of laptops, midi controllers, sequencers and samplers on stage and i am up on the balcony with two ancient school projectors and some educational films. ahhh the beauty of simplicity... one guy in particular was so enthralled by "drugs and your amazing mind" that he screamed out the title of each drug as it made its appearance on the screen. "LUDES!!!!! YEAHHH!!!!!!" |

now full of smoked salmon quesadillas. is there too much of a good thing? smoke salmon curry, smoked salmon speghetti, burritos...... its just so yummy! yeah, and tonight its: Kid606 and Gold Chains have been doing a thorough job of touring Europe the last two months and have been leaving a trail of broken microchips in the process (yikes!). Not only have they been packing houses from the Czech Republic to Italy, but they have been making big news while doing it. Laptop-tronics is in the air and you need to be there to believe it. This is seriously something that just cannot be missed! It took a great deal of working to get these people here and we need as many people in attendance as possible to continue this sort of thing in Seattle. Kid606 is touring off of his new soon-to-be released E.P on Violent Turd *The Action Packed Mentalist Brings You the Fucking Jams*, which is originals as well as remixes from Missy Elliot to Aha. Gold Chains will be bringing his version of G4 experimental hip-hop electro that has been leaving stunned audiences begging for more. And of course, Lesser will shock you with his D'B schizophrenia. Me? Well, I have a few films, too. Doors on Thursday at I-Spy will open at 9:00 Tickets are $12 in advance at www.ticketweb.com okay, sorry for that blatant press release rip-off, but why reinvent the wheel? i think the "kid" is a jerk, but i am excited for everyone else. gotta go pick out some films... -s |
