Hello. I saw your community, and I thought I should probably join, if nothing else to save my own sanity. I try to spread joy into the world by making 'peace cookies' every friday. People take a cookie, then share it with other people and it spreads peace. Catch ya on the flip side, leave me a note or add me to a friends list!

Sometimes, A Miracle…
Sometimes you need to cry in order to be able to smile. Sometimes you have to lose for it to be worthwhile. Sometimes your heart has to break. Sometimes your faith has to shake. There’s no Day without Night. There’s no winning without a fight. There’s no Love without Pain (we couldn’t really appreciate Love without it anyway). Sometimes Life’s mysteries get ahead of us. Sometimes we get behind. Sometimes each breath is taken in vain. Sometimes we live to die. Life is no secret [yet most of us live Life in secret]. Life is definitive [yet we remain undefined]. Life is imperfect [and yet, still perfect!] Life is not infinite [yet, Life is never truly finite]. Sometimes we live blinded by Life. Sometimes we live made deaf to Truth. And, Sometimes, for the first time [or maybe the hundreth!] we Awake. And sometimes we have an Angel’s hand to take… Sometimes we feel all alone. Sometimes we just want to give up and go “home.”
And, then; --a Miracle!
A smile, a rainbow, a hug, or a friend. A dream, a feeling, a kiss on the forehead.
Miracles come in all shapes and sizes. You will learn to cherish all of life’s Surprises.
Your life and the people who come into it are Miracles should you choose to see it that way.
All of the tears, all of the broken hearts, and all of the Fear can never take that away.
Never stop believing in Miracles. There is ALWAYS hope for a brighter day!

The Washington Post Invitational Contest recently asked readers to Submit instructions for something written in the style of a famous person and received the following, "The Hokey Pokey" as if written by Shakespeare.
O proud left foot, that ventures quick within Then soon upon a backward journey lithe. Anon, once more the gesture, then begin: Command sinistral pedestal to writhe. Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke, A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl. To spin! A wilde release from Heaven's yoke. Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl. The Hoke, the poke -- banish now thy doubt Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

12:36 am - Simple Acts of Kindness
|
ceilede
|
Simple Acts of Kindness Brian L. Weiss, M.D. (http://www.brianweiss.com/guest/guest.htm) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We all dream of a better life in a better society. However, it has become difficult to go through a complete day without becoming disillusioned, disappointed and drained by the mean-spirited and selfish people who surround us. So many people seem to be interested only in their personal gain. They have become rude and arrogant, critical and insensitive. Not only do their actions drag us down, but most of us feel that there's nothing we can do to change this, that only those in power have the capacity to make a difference.
Like a plague, these attitudes are escaping national borders and threatening the rest of the world. Others are actually importing our materialistic and self-centered values.
If we accept our task to be the enlightened beings of our planet, we can begin to change the world. Realistically, I think the changes will occur slowly, as we begin to practice acts of kindness every day, doing little things to help make other people happier. Perhaps the answer is volunteering to help the less fortunate. Perhaps it's something as simple as being nice to someone, doing a kindness without asking for or expecting anything in return.
For years, the television host and actress, Oprah Winfrey, has been advocating the practice of doing simple acts of kindness every day. These acts do not have to be expensive or complex. They can be nothing more than a pleasant smile, a spontaneous compliment, an assist to someone needing help. They can be a kind word, a sweet gesture, a caring action, a compassionate attitude, a shared joy, a helping hand. Little by little, step by step, a huge transformation of our society could begin. People would feel nourished by the kind gestures of others. Fearful attitudes and defensive insecurities would begin to melt away in the warmth of kindness.
Strangers must approach other strangers with these benevolent actions. Kindness and caring cannot be reserved only for our families and friends. Otherwise society will not change at all. We need to reach out to all the others, not merely those like us.
If we could get everyone to perform just a few acts of kindness each day, we could change the world. At least a good beginning could be made.
Our days would seem sweeter, less discouraging, and we would harbor more hope for the future. The model of kind and compassionate behavior to our fellow human beings should be America's export and legacy, not greed-based business practices with money as the bottom line and ruthless, uncaring competition as the means to that end.
In addition, we would be role models for our children. They would learn the power and importance of being kind. They would learn that the actual number of people reached by their simple acts of kindness do not matter. The importance is in the doing.
All the real teachers of humanity since the beginning of time have been telling us about love and compassion in our relationships and in our communities. They have not wasted their time by instructing us about how to accumulate excessive material wealth at the expense of others. They have not taught us to be mean, self-centered, rude or arrogant.
A real master, a real teacher, a real guru will point the way, showing you what is important for your spiritual evolution and what is not important or, even worse, what may be a hindrance or obstacle.
Our job is to manifest their teachings in our everyday life. To be kind and nurturing, to practice loving acts.
There is no time schedule for changing the world. The only important thing is to begin. If it is true that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, then the first step is to let go of our fear and isolation and to begin to practice acts of kindness, whether random or planned, whether big or small, and to do this every day. If the majority of us would do this, we would no longer need gurus. We would be doing what they have come here to teach us.
Changing the world from its current violent, competitive, and hate-filled nature will not happen through the efforts of only a few enlightened individuals, even if they are powerful world leaders. Rather, the day to day acts of kindness and compassion shared between people and within small groups can bring about the change to a more loving and kinder place. People have to understand that we are all equal, all the same, all striving for a little peacefulness, happiness and security in our everyday lives. We can't keep fighting and killing each other."

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than did anyone could have imagined. See what you think:
"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca - age 8
When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4
"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." Karl - age 5
"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy - age 6
"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4
Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7
"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss" Emily - age 8
"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate," Nikka - age 6
"There are two kinds of love. Our love. God's love. But God makes both kinds of them." Jenny - age 8
"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still pals even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6
"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore," Cindy - age 8
"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." Clare - age 6
"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine - age 5
"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is more handsomer than Robert Redford." Chris - age 7
"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4
"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4
"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." Karen - age 7
"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6
"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8
An author and lecturer once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a 4 year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

Alanis Morissette - Utopia
we'd gather around all in a room fasten our belts engage in dialogue we'd all slow down rest without guilt not lie without fear disagree sans judgement
we would stay and respond and expand and include and allow and forgive and enjoy and evolve and discern and inquire and accept and admit and divulge and open and reach out and speak up
This is utopia this is my utopia This is my ideal my end in sight Utopia this is my utopia This is my nirvana My ultimate
we'd open our arms we'd all jump in we'd all coast down into safety nets
we would share and listen and support and welcome be propelled by passion not invest in outcomes we would breathe and be charmed and amused by difference be gentle and make room for every emotion
we'd provide forums we'd all speak out we'd all be heard we'd all feel seen
we'd rise post-obstacle more defined more grateful we would heal be humbled and be unstoppable we'd hold close and let go and know when to do which we'd release and disarm and stand up and feel safe
this is utopia this is my utopia this is my ideal my end in sight utopia this is my utopia this is my nirvana my ultimate
i think this is the most beautiful song lyrically i have ever heard, hope it helps some of you as well

12:56 pm - $20 bill
|
angepup
|
A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up.
He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this." He proceeded to crumple the $20 dollar bill up. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air.
Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.
"My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. You are special - Don't EVER forget it."

In the beginning, God populated the earth with broccoli and cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives. Then, using God's bountiful gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's and Krispy Creme. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?" And man said "Yes!" and woman said "I'll have another with sprinkles." And lo they gained 10 pounds.
And God created the healthful yogurt, that woman might keep the figure that man found so fair And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane, and combined them. And woman went from size 2 to size 6.
So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing and garlic toast on the side. And man and woman unfastened their belts following the repast.
God then said, "I have sent you hearty healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried shrimp and catfish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof.
God then brought forth running shoes so that his children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan came forth with cable TV with remote control so that Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And man and woman laughed and cried before the flickering light and piled on the pounds.
Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with potassium and good nutrition. Then Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them and added copious quantities of salt. And man put on more pounds.
God then gave us lean be ef so that man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. So Satan created McDonald's and the 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then Lucifer said, "You want fries with that?" and man replied, "Yes! And super size 'em!" And Satan said, "It is good." And man went into cardiac arrest.
God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery and Satan created HMOs.

Though I speak with the voices of men and angels If I don't have love, I am like a blatting horn or a noisy cymbal And if I have all prophecy And all knowledge And if I have all faith So as to make the mountains jump about, If I don't have love, I am nothing. And if I expend all of my substance And if I give my body to be burned If I don't have love, I gain nothing from it.
Love suffers long pain, is kind, Love is not envious. Love doesn't push itself up, doesn't puff itself out Doesn't make a big deal, doesn't seek its own things, Is not provoked, never thinks evil, finds no joy in pain Finds all joy with good, Softly covers over all things, Believes all things, Hopes for all things, Endures forever.

12:11 pm - Body Movement Affirmation
|
ceilede
|
Nodding Or Shaking Your Head May Even Influence Your Own Thoughts When you nod your head to signal approval or shake your head to show disapproval, it's not just sending a message to others -- you may also be influencing yourself.
A new study showed that these simple movements influenced people's agreement with an editorial they heard while nodding or shaking their head. Researchers found that other body movements -- such as writing with a non-dominant hand -- can also influence attitudes, even about important issues such as self-esteem.
And these body movements exert their influence without people being aware of what is happening.
"We think of nodding or shaking our head as something that communicates to other people, but it turns out that it is also communicating to ourselves," said Richard Petty, co-author of the study and professor of psychology at Ohio State University.
In a sense, Petty said, nodding or shaking your head, as well as other body movements, serve as a kind of "self-validation" that confirms to us how we feel about our own thoughts.
"If we are nodding our heads up and down, we gain confidence in what we are thinking. But when we shake our heads from side to side, we lose confidence in our own thoughts."
The study found that nodding your head up and down is, in effect, telling yourself that you have confidence in your own thoughts -- whether those thoughts are positive or negative. Shaking your head does the opposite: its gives people less confidence in their own thoughts.

|

Thanks to belasco, I have some amusing things to share.
RANDOM THOUGHTS
Gardening Rule: When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are two kinds of pedestrians -- the quick and the dead. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Life is a sexually transmitted disease. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An unbreakable toy is useful for breaking other toys. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If quitters never win, and winners never quit, then who is the fool who said "Quit while you're ahead?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Get the last word in: Apologize. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some people are like Slinkies . . not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Have you noticed since everyone has a camcorder these days no one talks about seeing UFOs like they use to? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why does a slight tax increase cost you two hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND THE # 1 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
You read about all these terrorists -- most of them came here legally, but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long as 10 -15 years. Now, compare that to Blockbuster; you are two days late with a video and those people are all over you. Let's put Blockbuster in charge of immigration.

8:13 pm - A Celebration of Who We Are
|
ceilede
|
I created another community awhile back that I haven't worked on much, but that I still like the idea of.
Please check out: jayagaia.
Jayagaia is a celebration of who we, the people of earth, are; our art, culture, ingenunity and idiosyncracies. Its also about the natural wonders of our incredible planet.
I often stop and wonder what inhabitants of distant planets would think of us, our planet, and how we do things. This is probably a place where I will explore those thoughts as well as thoughts of "planetism"...being proud of the world we come from.

I'd like to introduce myself to the community. (I'm intro'ing myself on many, so please excuse the redundancy if you're on any of the other groups I am.) I'm a 29-year-old Scorpio in Southern California, real into art, guitar, music, the O.T.O., poetry, Thelema and Qabalah. I'm especially interested in the Abramelin Operation, and would love to hear from anyone that's completed it, or otherwise attained K. & C. of the H.G.A. And to anyone with a Palm handheld that's studying Qabalah, I can offer some Palm software I developed to help you out. Take care!
