8:27pm: Happy Valentine's Day...
Beauty queen of only eighteen She had some trouble with herself He was always there to help her She always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles And wound up at your door I've had you so many times but somehow I want more
I don't mind spending everyday Out on your corner in the pouring rain Look for the girl with the broken smile Ask her if she wants to stay awhile And she will be loved She will be loved
Tap on my window knock on my door I want to make you feel beautiful I know I tend to get so insecure It doesn't matter anymore
It's not always rainbows and butterflies It's compromise that moves us along My heart is full and my door's always open You can come anytime you want
I know where you hide Alone in your car Know all of the things that make you who you are I know that goodbye means nothing at all Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls
Tap on my window knock on my door I want to make you feel beautiful
I don't mind spending everyday Out on your corner in the pouring rain Look for the girl with the broken smile Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

8:49am: I heard this song, and it made me think of the question Stefan asked about gf/bf-ness.
I can be an asshole of the grandest kind I can withhold like it's going out of style I can be the moodiest baby and you've never met anyone who is as negative as I am sometimes
I am the wisest woman you've ever met. I am the kindest soul with whom you've connected. I have the bravest heart that you've ever seen And you've never met anyone Who's as positive as I am sometimes.
You see everything, you see every part You see all my light and you love my dark You dig everything of which I'm ashamed There's not anything to which you can?t relate And you're still here
I blame everyone else, not my own partaking My passive-aggressiveness can be devastating I'm terrified and mistrusting And you've never met anyone as, As closed down as I am sometimes.
You see everything, you see every part You see all my light and you love my dark You dig everything of which I'm ashamed There's not anything to which you can?t relate And you?re still here
What I resist, persists, and speaks louder than I know What I resist, you love, no matter how low or high I go
I'm the funniest woman you've ever known. I am the dullest woman you've ever known. I'm the most gorgeous woman you've ever known And you've never met anyone as, as everything as I am sometimes.
You see everything, you see every part You see all my light and you love my dark You dig everything of which I'm ashamed There's not anything to which you can?t relate And you?re still here
And you're still here And you're still here...

Hi, this is" -- couldn't catch the name -- "from the New York Times subsription office, and I was just calling to wish you a happy New Year -- " "Wait, this isn't Marge. This is her daughter." "Um-hmm." (sounds very unconvinced) "Is your...mother or father home?" "No, they can't come to the phone." "Um-hmm." (sounds very unconvinced) "Marge, thank you for your honesty. Goodbye." *click* ....wtf?

Well we all have a face That we hide away forever And we take them out and Show ourselves When everyone has gone Some are satin some are steel Some are silk and some are leather They're the faces of the stranger But we love to try them on
Well we all fall in love But we disregard the danger Though we share so many secrets There are some we never tell Why were you so surprised That you never saw the stranger Did you ever let your lover see The stranger in yourself?
Don't be afraid to try again Everyone goes south Every now and then You've done it, why can't Someone else? You should know by now You've been there yourself
Once I used to believe I was such a great romancer Then I came home to a woman That I could not recognize When I pressed her for a reason She refused to even answer It was then I felt the stranger Kick me right between the eyes
Well we all fall in love But we disregard the danger Though we share so many secrets There are some we never tell Why were you so surprised That you never saw the stranger Did you ever let your lover see The stranger in yourself?
You may never understand How the stranger is inspired But he isn't always evil And he is not always wrong Though you drown in good intentions You will never quench the fire You'll give in to your desire When the stranger comes along

I'm HOME! Safe, dry, warm, and jet lagged. home. I never thought I'd be so glad to see it. First, I want to say thank you to everyone who mailed me stuff. I know you're not all reading, but I gotta say it. Second, I was in Northern India when the tsunami hit. I was perfectly safe. Third, I sent out postcards. You all should get them. Stefan, I didn't have your address :( I just read my friends' page, so I'm all up to date. I won't try to write all about my trip now, because I have an English class at 7 am today, and typing out all that happened would take forever, and I'd forget to include stuff anyway. On the whole, the trip was intense. The poverty was unrelenting the beggars/salesmen were constant the traffic was incredible (cars, trucks, bicycles, auto-and-human rickshaws, pedestrians, and the occasional cow/elephant/camel thrown in) but we only saw one accident The food was spicy rhe clothes were exotic and the weather was great. India is not for the faint of heart. It asks a lot of travellers. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world, but I am not certain I will go back.

12:34pm: I know Jesus fasted, but I don' think this is what he meant...
I was reading an interview with Harry Connick Jr. (a piano player and actor). One of the last questions was something like, "If you could sit down to dinner with three role models, who would they be?" and his answer included Jesus.
The next question: "What would you have?" His answer: "Jambalaya, just like my mother used make, with pork and chicken."

w00t! I have my shirt now :-D Thank you, John. He liked the book I gave him (to my relief), too. Everyone had a good time. Happy Soltice/Yule/whatever-you-call-it everyone! (I went to a mini-party at his house tonight. Lots of food, friends, and chocolate!) On that subject, I was thinking about my favorite Christmas carols this afternoon. Because I know you all are so interested in my opinions, here's a list of the ones I like ~ - carol of the bells (I think it's the only carol in a minor key, and I like minor keys) - deck the halls (it's just so happy!) - Adeste Fideles (O come all ye faithful, in latin. I think the latin sounds so nice) - We Wish You A Marry Christmas (this one is a bit...Christian sounding for my tastes, but it is such a well-wishing song, isn't it?)

Gosh, I was just thinking how much I love this song. It would be great to have a pas de deux too. *sigh* So romantic and angsty. (Much of ballet is angsty, really.) I have no partener, though. I have to go up to my grandparents' xmas/birthday gathering tomorrow. I went to a party this morning, dammit (my father's company party), I have another party on Monday, should I get a rest? I painted my nails red. They look nice. I so rarely paint my nails, it's a bit of a change -- albeit a nice one. OH! "Heaven's A Lie" just came on the radio! I'm hot.

Bah! I can't sleep. Not that this should be surprising to me... I did not get my usual ballet class in I had a lot of sugar around 7:30 I drank about 6 cups of black tea today I have two tests tomorrow ...and my mind just won't shut up. Boys, chores, homework, this weekend, christmas, what to tell my grandmother about what I want for christmas, if I should ask my mother for anything else (I feel like I've asked for a lot already, even though I'm sure that to most people it's not a lot), my license, what I need to return to stores, the boy in my mother's singing class to wants to meet me... it just goes around and around and around Last night I dreampt I was in Hawaii. There were dolphins jumping, you could touch them, too. The fish were beautiful. Did I mention I am seriously considering transferring to Univerversity of Hawaii? Uh-huh. They have some very interesting sounding classes, particularly the Hilo campus. John, I finally saw "Arrested Development." It was hysterical! :) I want to see a movie of "The Imanginary Invalid" -- in french!! I have presents for everyone on my list, except 2 people: Justin and Bryce. Justin, what do you want? There's this really, really cute shirt at Target. It's red, with long sleeves. There are drawings of a couple of presents on it, and it says "Good things come in small packages." Isn't that cute? If anyone wants to get it for me, it's in the children's section. I should be about a 14, maybe a 16. There are a few things left on my list...maybe I should ask for them, I don't know. (sigh) Does anyone think I'm greedy and/or materialistic?

The guy who sits behind me in math class is so hot. The other day he wore a sleeveless jersey to class. Good lord, what arms! *swoon* It was a good thing I didn't sit next to him, I wouldn't have been able to concentrate. ;-) He also has a mustang he is thinking about selling, so I gave him my infomation so if he did decide to sell it, he could get in touch with me. I want him to call me for purely bussiness reasons *nod nod* I mentioned to my friend Heather how hot I think he his, and she said she'd work "it" into the conversation for me (don't worry, she has a boyfriend). So tomorrow I will find out if he is single. I know I don't know you But I want you so bad Everyone has a secret But can they keep it Oh No they can't
I'm driving fast now Don't think I know how to go slow Where you at now I feel around There you are

UNCOMMON KNOWLEDGE
There are many rumors as to the origin of the word "picnic," but the word actually comes from the French word "pique-nique" - "pique" is based on the verb "piquer," which is also the origin of the verb "to pick" in English, and the rhyming "nique" was an archaic word for a "trifle." The term originated to describe a party where everyone brought along food, and began to signify a sort of outdoor meal in the 1800s.
Both Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were understudies in the William Inge play Picnic in 1960. They met, fell in love and soon got married. Both went on to film stardom, and the pair have collaborated on many projects, too. To this day they are regarded as one of Hollywood's happiest couples.
Michigan was the first state in the USA to have road-side picnic tables. An engineer named Allan Williams built one alongside U.S. 16 in Ionia County in 1929, and the idea was soon adapted by the State Highway Department. It has since been emulated by other states, and is considered an emblem of Michigan's hospitality.
The first lithographed American lunchbox appeared in 1902. It was shaped like a picnic basket and had an image of playing children painted on it. --uncommongoods.com In Hancock, New Hampshire in 1879, a family picnic was held by the Symonds family, and it gradually spread to involve the whole town, and then anyone who had ever lived there. The day become known as Old Home Day, and within twenty years, New Hampshire governor Frank Rollins had made the third week in August a state holiday known as Old Home Week. It is still celebrated today, with picnics and parades throughout New Hampshire.

Can you see me Floating above your head As you lay in bed Thinking about everything That you did not do Cause saying I love you Has nothing to do with meaning it And I don't trust you Cause every time you're here Your intentions are unclear I spend every hour waiting for a phone call That I know will never come I used to think you were the one Now I'm sick of thinking anything at all You ain't ever coming back to me That's not how things were supposed to be You take my hand just to give it back No other lover has ever done that Do you remember The way we used to melt Do you remember how it felt When I touched you Oh cause I remember very well And how long has it been Since someone you let in Has given what I gave to you And at night when you sleep Do you dream I would be there Just for a minute or two do you? You ain't ever coming back to me That's not how things were supposed to be You take my hand just to give it back No other lover has ever done that Heartache heartache I just have so much A simple love with a complex touch There is nothing you can say or do I called to let you know I'm through with you
