**NOTE** I used to go by BratPrincess... I changed my name, so if you're wondering who the heck I am, now you know.

this journal is partly friends only. it's also my ranting space. kind of like anger management. if you don't like that, then shoo.

also, email me before you im because i have everyone who isn't on my buddy list blocked. and if you have icq and you want to talk to me, for god's sake, TELL ME WHO THE HECK YOU ARE when you ask for permission to add me.

After narrowly escaping non-existence in 1983, I was adopted shortly after my birth in TX and brought back to NJ to live with my adoptive parents and brother. Mom is the leisure type, she likes bridge and is psychotic about tennis. I was neglected terribly for grand slam events. On the up side, she gave me my sick sense of humor and all the support I could ever need with the arts, especially my writing. Dad owns a business and in 1996 he spontaneously gave birth to a pet dog - Shane - who talks back to him and follows him everywhere. He likes golf, good wine, and business. Some might dare to call him a workaholic. My brother is nine years older than me, and from a vastly different planet than I am. He's got a girlfriend and Galaga, an arcade game which he won at an auction.

When I was five, it was discovered I had been born with a hearing loss in the higher frequencies. What that means is that I can't tell the difference between the words 'thin,' 'fin,' and 'sin,' without lipreading or inference from context. I tend to score 80% on the stupid tests where I have to repeat back words to the audiologist for twenty minutes like a mindless parrot in a soundproof coffin. Sucks to repeatedly take tests where you know you'll never get higher than a B- or C+. At any rate, it was definitely a factor in how I grew up and blablablah.

I grew up in suburban NJ and spent seventeen out of eighteen years in the same house, but that didn't meant I didn't like to move around in other ways. I went to six different schools in four different systems (that includes two boarding schools, a private school system, a public school system and another public hs). I spent much of my time in all of the schools being a sullen and misunderstood teen. This is where you feel bad for me. Do you feel bad for me? No? Shucks.

It wasn't till I moved home from the second boarding school and started at my local high school that I started actually paying attention in class. I started doing that thing that angsty teens aren't supposed to do and started taking pride in my work, making high honor roll a few times and regular honor roll a few more times. I would have graduated with honors, but that dastardly "C" I got one quarter in gym my freshman year demanded that my academic achievements be politely ignored. I'm terribly bitter.

In my junior year, I found my biological family. I look just like my biomom (Kyle), I'm alot like my older biobrother, and my younger half brother is absolutely nothing like me short of the nose. Kyle remarried awhile ago to a man who is even less like me because he doesn't even have the nose. I like him just the same. I don't talk to my biodad much because some things in life just aren't necessary.

Not long after my junior year was my first serious relationship. We don't talk much about that either, because again - some things in life just aren't necessary. However, in the spring of my senior year, I met Jesse, who would be the inspiration for some of my more prized poetry. We were together for two years and engaged for one, but sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to, no matter how hard you try.

I started at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in the Summer of '02, arriving into Philly a week after graduation from high school with my transcript in hand. A week after that, I started classes in order to pursue a BA in multimedia/web design. A few weeks into the following Fall quarter, it dawned on me that I really didn't want to be a multimedia/web design major, so I transferred to Drexel University to major in English. I finished my first trimester there in June '03 with a stunning 4.0 which will vanish the moment numbers and formulas are set in front of me.

Other exciting stuff has happened, like running away to New Orleans when I was sixteen, or the rapturous four months where I was employed part time at a kennel, or the fact that I had a piece of a cadaver's bone stapled to my foot, but as my shrinks always say when you really get goin', "our time is up."
