This update is long overdue…. Both Christmas and New year has passed, and as I gaze out over the craggy hills of Taipa, Macau; past the Lego-type apartment buildings, I realize that it’s not only a new year, but a new beginning. (to set the scene, it’s 5:30pm, the sun is setting behind that hill, I'm sipping a hot Chrysanthemum tea for my hangover… and I have just “woken up”) . Also it’s a frigid 10 degrees.
The days are passing quite quickly, I realize that I haven't achieved much of what I wanted to do. I still haven't secured a place to stay in Hong Kong, yet I have found a flatmate. I still don't have a mobile/cell number or a bank account. But I am receiving my HK ID card on Monday, so it should be soon. Other wise, you can text me on: +852 6102 6037 for now. I'm borrowing Nela's HK sim card. So keep it decent! :p
Should I work my way backwards? It seems that I should count back the year that ended, then look forward to the year that will be. Yes.
NYE 2005- Macau (alas no pictures as I left my camera in my room…as you will read, it’s a pity that I did…) I saw 2005 in at the private party @ Sands Casino, free drinks all night (well as many vouchers as tickets I had), the “fallen angels” writhing on top of the bar, winning a lucky door prize (dinner @ the Ruby Room to the value of MOP2,500. SCORE!!!), a bad DJ, and a group of Malaysian transvestites. I turned to Nela during their performance and asked the question:
“where they really all guys??” “of course”
2 post –op, the rest pre. Ok I blame the champagne but damn it. 2 of them looked more feminine (the post op girls/guys/whatever) than the following act that were the Air Macau Hostesses.
Another drink please.
Hey Happy New Year!
Following the countdown, we went downstairs to the Xanadu bar to check out the band. Fitting in with the country, a very multicultural band: Steven (a corn-row haired Jersey boy) and his gorgeous wife Ona, Simon (German-Indonesian), Mariam (an awesome Cuban singer) and the Italian pianist Ina. From there we headed over to the infamous DD's. Infamous for the Russian prostitutes and the INSANE Chinese dance music. It's like your normal doof doof mixed with happy hardcore, then you give it some speed. Needless to say, add a strip show on the stage and at the bar, Russians, transvestites, triads and someone from the band handing me drugs, it was a typical night out on the town. The 3 days prior I was in HK. Shopping, looking for a place etc. saw the tiniest and barest of places that there is no way I could live there. I realized that I HAVE been spoilt. The HK apartments I have been staying at in Happy Valley have been unusually large and luxurious. Even though there was not a place found, I used my time getting to know the area and especially the Kowloon side. Now this is local of local.
My hands are getting cold as the light disappears.
I saw the whole MR Men series in Chinese. I ventured into some local tattoo parlors. The shopping is fucking excellent. I bought a new laptop. A SCHWEET new Sony Vaio A29GP. I pick it up on Tuesday and cannot wait. I have all these pictures I want to share. They sell EVERYTHING HERE. I saw the whole CRUMPLER bag range (made in Melbourne mate). The have Sebastian hair products ¼ of the price. And QV cream but more expensive. There are fake everything. China amazes me more and more. The magnitude of the country is enormous, it’s weight in the world cannot be denied. The Christmas decorations are fantastic, Sydney should be ashamed.i love waking up next to a warm naked body :P the massages are so cheap! (those 2 sentences are not related!!) The food is great. KFC tastes like shit. They also have no fries (there is some mutated version of a potato wedge). Maccas tastes the same. The menu here is different. Starbucks coffee is the same (read: shit). A guy killed himself by jumping off the 3rd floor at Sands casino after losing 3 million HK. The perversion of gambling is thus. People saw him jump. Looked at each other in amazement. Then kept gambling. Ditto for NYE. Tho the pause was shorter. The guy laded next to fai Ken (who for interest has 2 x Russian ‘girlfriends”), intact yet dead in the foyer. There is an Italian-Japanese fusion restaurant. I could so easily turn into a TST boy. I really can't wait to have a place so everyone can visit. My flatmate's name is Joshua. . He is the guitarist for Whence He Came. He edits video clips and does graphic work for EMI Musi. I have started writing, have snippets of songs and can’t wait to record them. My digital camera is alive!! I left my DV cam battery charger in Sydney. The pot here doesn't smell like pot. The coke in HK is $100/gram. I start work on Monday and am a little nervous. It's cold here now and I am not a big fan. Oh, work has given me rental reimbursements!
The tsumani. The coverage here is quite graphic. China Morning post has no qualms of showing the victims on the front page.
We received news this morning that one of Nela's friend died on Langkawi island off the coast of Malaysia in the tsunami disaster.she was one of the first people i met in HK some 2 years ago. We lay in bed for a while in silence while she cried.
Then we spoke of the fact that we had planned to be on a sandy beach in Thailand during that time if she didn't have to work, and I didn't have to start work so early. In fact. I was going to go for a while.
Indeed, this is a new beginning.
HAPPY NEW YEAR from macau.
