» What is Meetup? Why is LiveJournal linking to it?
Meetup.com (
http://www.meetup.com) is a site which helps people who are all interested in a certain topic find each other and meet up in real life. Unlike sites like LiveJournal, which can slowly grow over time, sites like Meetup require an influx of users, otherwise the site doesn't work.
LiveJournal is doing its part and linking interests to the corresponding Meetup page. We're not getting any money for this. LiveJournal administrators respect the Meetup idea and want to see the project succeed.
Go join some Meetups in your city and spread the word. It's pretty fun!
