And just for good measure, Emily's survey:
1. What time do you get up? I'm not really sure at this point because I have set my alarm clock retardedly fast and don't look at the real time until I realize just how late it is and dash out the door... I would guess around 6:30? 2. If you could eat lunch with one person, who would it be? the Phantom! 3. Gold or silver? silver, white gold or platinum usually 4. What was the last show you saw at the cinema? Phantom of the Opera (a zillion times!) 5. Favorite TV show? Jeopardy, American Idol if I'm in the mood. 6. What did you have for breakfeast? What's your favorite day of the week? Saturday 21. What did you do for your last birthday? Nikki and Shelburne surprised me with a party at my place after I was shopping all day with Nikki! I was pretty freaked out. Drank a lot of that strawberry TGI Fridays alcoholic milkshakey goodness and I think we all went to Art Bar and shook our tooshes afterward. 22. Where were you born? ?? Which Of The Greek Gods Are Y
Though they rarely caused mankind any serious harm, these Japanese fox spirits known as kitsune were well known for playing tricks on people and could be a real nuisance. They possessed the ability to transform into any creature, though they would often retain their fox tail. One could easily determine the age and level of maturity of a kitsune by counting it's tails; An immature, rambunctious kitsune would have very few tails, while a wise and powerful one would have as many as nine.
As a kitsune, you are clever, sensual, beautiful, mysterious and effeminate (even if you are a guy). You are also somewhat sneaky and like to pull pranks on people, but otherwise you are very pleasurable to be around.
Who is your inner Shapeshifter? brought to you by Quizilla ou ?? brought to you by Quizilla

9:49 am - Yay surprises
|
I got a package yesterday - was kind of surprised because I hadn't ordered anything. In said package: a pair of 14K gold heart-shaped peridot earrings. There was a note inside that said something like "Consider this a prelude to the diamond earrings. Jeff."
I'm not usually a fan of yellow gold, but these look really pretty with my hair and my eyeballs, so I won't complain! It was so sweet of him. He's heading to Hawaii now, so I barely had time to thank him before he left.

Ganked from Nikki
Alright, guys, I know I just use the journal for shameless pimpage (check out the column). But I promise I'll do better (it makes Brian look like more of a jackass when my column gets almost four times the hits his does) and actually update with stuff OTHER than column (I have lots of great new ideas!). For example, I am going to check out a poet with a slide projector tonight (and write Tuesday's column sometime this weekend when I get around to it...)
In the meantime, check out some of my handiwork...

10:23 am - Disturbing statistics
|
I'm working on my first grant - I am pretty excited! If I get approved, the Sisters of Charity (yes, Mark and I met with nuns, which is ridiculous if you know Mark) will be giving us a significant sum of money to carry out a program. Mark's given me the freedom to come up with the entire program - which is flattering and overwhelming at the same time because I have never written a grant before! Right now it's looking like the program will involve providing free mental-health screenings to people in underserved mental health areas (this is most of SC, believe it or not - we might have to cut it down because it won't be that much money) and referring them a doctor at the closest mental health facility if needed. If they need a referral, part of the program will also be to provide transportation if needed.
At any rate, I've had to do a bit of research for the grant so I can present the proposal to the rest of the office before I start the application process. And I, of course have gotten distracted on the US Census website, like I always have. So I present to you some really freaking disturbing numbers:
S.C. Average Earnings by race, educational attainment & sex 1990 (I'm shortening this a bit)
Less than ninth grade education Black man (BM): 12,281 Black woman (BW): 6,996 White man (WM): 16,933 White woman (WW): 9,426
High school/GED BM: 13,635 BW: 11,049 WM: 24,604 WW: 13,084
Bachelor of Arts BM: 25,858 BW: 18,093 WM: 38,863 WW: 18,800
Professional degree BM: 32,360 BW: 24,162 WM: 62,271 WW: 30,535
Welcome to South Carolina, land of the white man!!! Usually almost DOUBLE the income of everyone else. Sad. White men, come one, come all! You know, considering how expensive having a baby is and how many women have babies without a white man to help them out, how in the fuck does all of that work out? I WANT A GOOD JUSTIFICATION!!!
(There wasn't a good recent table, but I did find that in 2003, the average income for males with a BA was 47,210 and females with a BA 31,007. The rest of the education levels were there, too, but that figure's par for the course.)

12:53 pm - The [sic] bet
|
Argh, I was silly and made a long-term bet: basically, if The Phantom of the Opera doesn't make back its production costs, I have to do a sexy promo photo shoot for [sic] and run a photo on the main site for a week. If it does, Brian will have to do the same, hahahahahaha. So everyone go out and see The Phantom of the Opera as many times as you can so we can splash Brian's fuzzy-ass body all over the internet!!!

Happy New Year, Livejournal. Ah, I know I have been slack. I know I neglect you. But everyone who's on my Friends page gets read - have no doubt of that! Hell, sometimes I even explore other people's friends pages just 'cause I'm sneaky like that.
Check out my dating column on [sic] productions; it drops on Tuesdays unless the mods are being slackasses. This week's column: Gifts to say I Loathe You.
Thus far, a great 2005. An exciting, swashbuckling, and psychotic New Year. Lots of time with my dear, dear friends. The Phantom of the Opera. A possible promotion (I haven't officially accepted it yet, but I am pretty sure I am going to). Yes, I think this will be a beautiful and magical year, a year of promise, a year of growth. And I've already taken steps to keep my New Years resolution of making less waste at that oh-so-special time of the month. I know it sounds like a crazy resolution, but I feel an overwhelming sense of guilt every time I empty an trashcan overfilled with non-biodegradable products after FIVE DAYS. Plus, right now, if you buy The Keeper (which I have bought; I am a little freaked out by the concept, but I've been curious for years and finally decided to bite the bullet) or Many Moons washable pads, they're donating to Tsunami relief funds including the Red Cross. I got the deal where you can get one of the mini pads for $3 with the order of a Keeper... Like I said, I'm a little freaked out, but I'm thrilled about doing my part not to produce so much trash. Plus, everywhere I've read says that it's MUCH better on a woman's body.
So yeah, that's where I am at the moment. Happy trails, everyone!

Three Rivers music festival is actually considering some *good* artists this year! There's an extensive list, and you can vote for three artists to perform at the festival. Kickass.
Vote here!
You know how Three Rivers has gone downhill the past few years? Now maybe it'll actually be good and make some money! So vote. But don't vote for anyone who sucks, or I'll come after you.
In other music news, I am going to see Elton John in March! I love heem. And I am going with Casey's girlfriend, Amber - it's her first concert ever, and it's just the two of us (Casey's not a big Elton John fan, needless to say). So I'm really excited about the show and thrilled that she's finally showing me some personality besides "Casey's excessively clingy hometown honey."

Shane, the Eastern seaboard hasn't fallen off the face of the earth, I promise! I had a very busy weekend, what with Thanksgiving, seeing an ex-love in an ex-hometown, being asked on a Caribbean cruise with yet another blue-eyed Navy boy, and being told that someone wants to suck my brain out through my nose and store it in a jar and eat my face...in a loving way. Beauty. My phone doesn't work anywhere so balls in the woods. I love you and will talk to you soon. Sprint sucks; you don't still have it, do you?
