Weird [Jan. 28th, 2005|03:55 pm]
You know what feels really, really weird? Trying to put chapstick on a lip that's completely numb.

I just got some fillings done, and my entire upper lip feels like it belongs to someone else. I can't move it, I can't feel it, and even half my nose feels peculiar. LOL

Drinking water is a bit of an adventure too, as I just found out when I tried to take some ibuprofen.

"Curves_squee" = disable [Jan. 28th, 2005|12:38 pm]
[mood | disappointed]
[music |King's Singers - Riu, riu, chiu]

No Curves squeeing today. In fact, I'm really rather disappointed.

Between the weighing/measuring done on December 23rd and last night, I had about double the working out time of the previous stretch. Yet somehow I managed to gain 3/4 of a pound back and either make no progress or very little on the 'inches around' front. Granted, Christmas and New Year's landed in those weeks, but it's not like I pigged out or constantly nibbled.

One of the trainers mentioned two reasons that this might have happened:

1. I could be gaining muscle.
2. Because shark week is fast approaching, I could be retaining fluid.

Both of these are reasonable, though I have no idea of the rate that non-muscle turns into muscle. The problem here is that now I'm starting to doubt my own perception. I thought my clothes felt looser. Was that my imagination? I thought parts of me looked smaller. Was that my imagination too?

It's not like I've made no progress at all, but here's an example. Between November 23 and December 23, I lost a total of 5.25 inches. Between December 23 and January 27, I only lost an additional 1.25 inches.

I'm not giving up, I'm just disappointed.

The Surreal Life (not the show, I can't bear reality TV) [Jan. 26th, 2005|01:01 pm]
[music |The King's Singers - Father to Son]

I had a sort of surreal moment last night, when something happened that has never, ever happened to me before.

I was sitting on the couch with [info]squarelife and the dog, watching a very cool show on logging technology on History Channel.

(Sidenote: it really was very cool - did you know that in Finland they've build a logging machine which takes the place of the usual big trucks, and it has FEET! This is a machine that walks on six feet and is very light, so they can do logging on squashy ground like peat bogs. The thing looks like a giant insect, but I forgive them for that because it's so very COOL. I would love to drive that thing.)

Anyway.

So I was sitting there enduring commercials between The Cool Bits, and started looking around the room. I glanced down at my legs stretched out sort of in front of/underneath me (yes, I sit sort of sideways and weird) and went 'hey, my calf looks smaller!' Now, I don't know if it really is noticeably smaller, considering I've only been doing Curves about 9 weeks now. Is that enough time for visible shrinkage? I even sort of moved my legs around to see if it still looked smaller in a different position, and it did.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night - it's weighing and measuring day (which I'm certain I've mentioned before) and I'm impatient to see what the numbers say about the changes that have happened in four weeks.

This week's button [Jan. 25th, 2005|06:31 pm]
Forgot to mention. This week's button is a quote from Robert McCloskey, State Department spokesman:

"I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

I'm wearing this one just to observe the looks on peoples' faces as they read it and try to grasp what it says. :-)

Reportation [Jan. 25th, 2005|05:47 pm]
[music |The King's Singers - Fool On The Hill]

Curves report:

Because I might be going to the Livestock Show on Saturday, I went ahead and knocked out a Curves visit last night. My usual workout days are Tuesday and Thursday nights after work, and Saturday morning. But if I'm petting the bunnies and laughing at the goats with dreadlocks and stepping carefully away from the cows who have such long tongues that they can lick the insides of their own noses (ew) then that means I won't have time to Curve beforehand.

I'm going tonight and Thursday night as usual, and if it happens that we don't end up going Saturday, I'm gonna go to Curves anyway. I've actually been half considering adding a 4th visit each week until the wedding is over, just because I really would like to drop two dress sizes like the trainer says I might. I was so gleeful to fit into a size 20 when we did the trying-on of the bridesmaids dresses, and I'd sure like to get down even further by the end of May. Thursday night is weighing/measuring day, so we'll see what's happened in four weeks.

Dorkasaurus Rex [Jan. 24th, 2005|12:09 pm]
[music |Boz Skaggs - Love, Look what You've Done to Me]

Over the weekend I actually underlined and bolded how much of a dork I can be, and in public no less.

I was at Bridesmart again on Saturday (yes of course, after going to Curves) doing bridesmaidy stuff, and I saw the most wonderful thing - a giant, cream-colored fabric tophat, complete with little floofy veil-like thing attached to the back. Of course, I immediately thought it would be perfect for a bride-themed jester costume to wear to Scarbie, with cream-colored suede boots and checkerboard tights and etc.

I had to put it on, and the Bride had to take a few pictures. :-D

Come see the Dork, only twenty-five cents! )

Maybe if I was built the way I'd prefer to be, I'd consider buying such a thing and making that kind of outfit. Sure would be original. LOL

Meme: Enneagram Test ([info]elfs did it first) [Jan. 21st, 2005|07:59 am]
Enneagram
free enneagram test

I am Type Nine
The Peacemaker The easy-going, self-effacing type. Nines are accepting, trusting, and stable. They are usually creative, optimistic, and supportive, but can also be too willing to go along with others to keep the peace. They want everything to go smoothly and be without conflict, but they can also tend to be complacent, simplifying problems and minimizing anything upsetting. They typically have problems with inertia and stubbornness. At their Best: indomitable and all-embracing, they are able to bring people together and heal conflicts.

I'm barely Type Nine actually, since it edged out Type Five (The Investigator) by just a single point.

It's soup!! [Jan. 20th, 2005|03:00 pm]
[mood | giggly]
[music |The Dark Crystal - The Gelfling ruins]

Ok, remember how we were talking about [info]rapier and I exchanging snorts of laughter over 12-year-old humor? Well, what follows is a perfect example of what I find inappropriately funny:

I was just in the grocery store picking up supplies for tonight's hot-dog-and-tater-tot fiesta, when I found something in the imports aisle that I absolutely could not resist. It's a fifty-five cent packet of Cock Flavored Soup Mix, complete with drawing of colorful rooster in case we got confused.

Photo to follow later tonight when I get home and to my camera, and can stop snickering long enough to take a shareable picture. Yes, I'm over 30, and my mother is SO proud.

[music |Pachelbel - Canon In D (Piano version)]

Nope, couldn't resist. And interestingly, this isn't far off, considering that I adore Jon Stewart and never miss Daily Show (and own America.) However, it doesn't take into account that [info]rapier and I chortle over 12-year-old humor on a daily basis. I have range, baby.

Curious? Click here, forsooth. )

In which I have a conversation with myself (which isn't that unusual, really) [Jan. 19th, 2005|04:45 pm]
[music |Tangerine Dream - Cherokee Lane]

You know what I dislike? Being tired and antsy at the same freaking time. Sheesh. Shouldn't that be impossible?

Perhaps my body is starting to run differently now that I'm regularly working out, and my nutritional needs have changed. Maybe I'm not getting an appropriate amount of protein or something. I don't know, but I'm trying to pay attention to how I feel and figure out what I need to feel reasonable. I do know that I have a little more energy now than I had two months ago, so that might be part of it.

Then of course, there is this that happens at least half the time I go to Curves:

Me: * has gone through all the stretches and started the 45 minute drive home *

My Muscles: DUDE! We need to go mountain climbing! Or better - windsurfing! Come on, let's go windsurfing!

Me: * trying to get on the freeway *

My Muscles: No, seriously. How about waverunners and horseback riding!

Me: * on the freeway, about to be able to pay attention, hoping muscles don't stiffen up from all the sitting still right after working out *

My Muscles: Ok, lasertag at least? Lasertag, with the running and hiding and shooting and sneaking?

Me: So, mountain climbing, you say?

My Muscles: Not even. Look here. *barely lifts arm off steering wheel* We can hardly move. All we want is to get home, fall on the bed and pass out.

Me: So, no windsurfing?

My Muscles: We never would have even implied such a thing. It's all we can do just to drive this car after such a long day and then all the pushing and lifting and running in place.

Me: And you'd never exaggerate anything.

My Muscles: Pff, us? Never. Hush now, we're busy being limp.

Yoinked from [info]cooking, thanks [info]jennfurr! [Jan. 19th, 2005|10:21 am]
[music |Woodland Meditation]

Wow, these sound really good. The best part is that the recipe calls for soymilk, which is what we use around my house instead of regular milk. Too bad my husband can't stand peaches, but I suppose you could use any flavor yogurt you like.
