| About: | This is a community for writers, or people interested in writing, who would like to do a regular "work out" of their skills.
How it Works:
- A topic is set and posted in the Writing Workout Community. The following specifications are made:
*A theme (this could be anything from an expression like "the pen is mightier than the sword" to "use these five words...").
* Criteria required(freeform, premeditated, edit or leave unedited)
* Time, if any, to do it in (example, thirty minutes, one hour, etc)
* When it's due (a day, a week, etc)
The rest is up to the writer's imagination.
- Members of the community then work on the topic and post it in their personal journals, NOT in the community!
- When they complete the task, they come back to the community and respond to the specific topic they performed, stating that it is now available for reading in their journals
- Other members may constructively critique, analyse and comment
It is not mandatory to perform every set topic, however the point of the community is to give your writing skills exercises in versatility and technique. So, if you're serious about that you should probably try to do as many as you can.
No flaming will be tolerated!!! If you don't like someone's work, say so constructively and without viciousness! Flamers will be banned immediately!!!
Topics can be on anything, and written to any mood. They can be serious, silly, romantic, suspensful, challenging - you name it. If you wish to have a specific mood for a topic you set, you must specify that when you post the topic.
Anyone can set a topic. To do that you would log into livejournal, and click on the advanced journal entry option. Type your post, and in the option "Journal to post in:" select "writingworkout". To have this option available to you, you need to join the Writing Workout Community. You do this by going to Writing Workout profile page: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=writingworkout and clicking the option at the top where it says "join community".
If you set a criteria that requires knowledge of a certain style, like: "write a passage in the style of James Joyce", be sure to include a couple of links to examples of the author's work, as not everyone may be familiar with them.
No more than two new topics should be posted at a time, out of respect for people's other commitments.
Again, do not post your responses in the community except to state you have performed the set task and it awaits reading in your journal.
