8:06 pm - Audition
Last night, I went over to Cathy's glamourous apartment to watch Audition with Carolyn, the film that a decent amount of people have told me that I must see. Me, specifically.

I loathed it. What a self-indulgent piece of garbage. I liken it to a Masochistic wank fest. Believe me, I have no problem with violence, and if any of you have read my work, you know that I...dabble in depicting it.

Audition started out with some promise, but by the end scene, I really began to think that if only there wasn't that stupid torture scene in it, it would have been 10X more powerful.

but nooooooo, the director, no doubt the Dennis Cooper of S&M; cinema, had to go there and show every bit of needles deeply piercing the eyes and tongue. The piano wire chopping off the foot was a nice touch. And, of course, she decided to don rubber gloves and apron for her torture bit. Where is the artistic merit in any of that? How is it not high brow porn? Really, I'd LOOOOVE know.

The whole poor little abused girl turned into man hating sadistic thing was cliche and hammerfisted.

Yeah, it sucked.

I'm thinking that Godzilla was the last great Japanese film, as the ones I have watched over the years really haven't done anything for me.

In happier news, [info]delilahdewylde sent me the new Dangerville CD and I'm really digging it!!!!!!!

We had a NEW junkie who came in last night!!! Only this one was one of the most annoying yet--he went over to each table of customers and gave them some "deal" where they'd fork over only FOUR DOLLARS and he'd go to the grocery store to buy them food!!!!

When I went over to kick him out, he started in on how "this place is punk rock and it's wrong to treat me this way...you don't get it"
and then basically insulted me, telling me that I have the "punk rock look" but that like most people nowadays who don't understand where punk came from, it's just a fashion statement for me.

"You don't understand how it used to be. I KNOW, I was there!" He said.

"Um, you look about 20 years old, I highly doubt that you know how it 'used to be'," I replied.

"I'm THIRTY years old, man!"
etc.

I mean, HAHAHAHHAHA and all, but what a dickweed.

Eric was there, fortunately, and kicked him out. But then he came back in for another round of "I'm more punk rock than you are!"

3:02 pm - Life's little annoyances
Let me be the one to illustrate one of them:

True, I hate cold weather as much as the next person, because I hate being cold, but what is even more annoying is that people wear such huge coats that they TAKE UP MORE ROOM!!! Like, EVERYONE seems to be taking up the entire width of the sidewalk and I can't get past them when they are walking too slowly. GET OUT OF MY WAY MICHELIN MAN/WOMAN!!! Let's not even begin to talk about the subway seats. People (men) who normally take up two seats because they like to spread out (their legs), or put their bags on seats (men and women), now take up, like 1/2 a row of seats due to their huge coats!!!

But, maybe I'm secretly envious because I don't own an enormous warm coat.

I almost(?) caused a SCENE on the 6 train last night. I spent 1/2 of my day on trains yesterday, so I was unusually grouchy. Soooo, it's like 7pm and I'm on a packed platform because the 6 train takes forever and a train pulls up and it's also packed and although I usually let such cattle cars pass me by, I needed to get home so I could relax for a bit, eat and get my ass to work.

Unfortunately, this LITTLE MAN got on and made sure to position himself so that his despicable COCK was resting on my butt. SO I RUDELY shifted and pushed him and knocked him into some other poor fool. THEN he postitioned himself so that his despicable cock was resting on my HIP!!!

And then, what do you think I did?

Does anyone ever watch that hilarious show, What Not to Wear on TLC? The premise is this: your friends and/or family send in pictures of you and tell your story (why you look like shit, etc.) and then if chosen, you're filmed for a week, unbeknownst to you and finally the hosts sneak up on you and hand you a CC for 5K, but you need to follow their rules and throw out your ENTIRE wardrobe. You also have to let them make fun of you and your clothes. hee!

Sheena told me about this show ages ago, when they had on some girl who dressed JUST LIKE ME!!

(Personally, I think I'd make a wonderful hostess to that show, the perfect foil to a snarky gay companion).

But, I know sometimes, hell, usually I look like crap. My clothes are in horrific condition. I think of them sneaking up on me when I'm wearing ripped black cords and my never-been-washed-in-a decade flight jacket and having a fucking field day!!!

They'd probably bust on the fact that I dress like a mourning Sicilian grandmother too, with all my black 40s dresses (most of which are of course falling apart).

In other TV news, Henry Rollins hosts a show on IFC, in which he disses or praises movies. Last night, he had Darryl Hannah on to discuss The Woodsman. She had on the LOWEST cut blouse and sorry, but I don't really care what the mermaid from Splash has to say about a movie. The grossest part of the show was when this other sidekick was making fun of Henry because he told her that his bellybutton had fallen out...due to a HERNIA from working out too much!! EW E W EWWWWWWWWWW

Just now, this happy guy walked past my desk, singing and stopped to say, "Hi how're you doing? Happy New Year!"

Was he serious?

I am woefully broke. I do not have a proper winter coat. I am wearing a filthy flight jacket that Eric bought me in 1995. I don't have warm pants--so I've been wearing the same 2 pairs of black cord cargo pants with thermals underneath all week. Most of my clothes fit into three catagories:
1. too ill-fitting/ugly/uncomfortable
2. worn to death (rips, holes and tears)
3. Thoroughly impractical to wear during the day (and not warm or comfortable).

I hate winter.

I am sure that someone will want to send me $ for clothes, so I am putting the word out to Live Journal.

Email me if you want to send cash, check or money order.

Am I serious? )

I swear, part of the reason I stopped eating lunch was because I am a very neurotic eater around strangers. Like, I almost go into full blown rage when someone stops at my desk to chat while I'm eating anything. Like, yesterday, I was eating a bag of Baked Lays to hold me over and someone walked over and was like, "Hey, how are you, what's up?" and I pretty much totally brushed him off and ignored him. Yeah, I know it was a snack food, but it's just the fucking point.

Well, today, I figured I needed to eat something b/c I wouldn't have time again until like 10:30 tonight, if even then, so I regretfully ordered a mega soy burrito from Burritoville.

It took the mere unwrapping of the burrito for this girl to prance over to my desk from her office and say, "I want to see what you're eating!!!" She didn't move away when I just gaped at her in horror. I sat there waiting for her to leave before touching the fucking thing, but truthfully by then, I had lost my appetite.

A minute or two later, I hear everyone talking about smelling food.

A minute or two after that, someone comes over and announces to me, "I SMELL A BURRITO!"

and I hurled the fucking thing into the trash.

I am so not eating in the office ever again.

current mood: aggravated

1:55 pm - A movie everyone needs to see
The other night, VH1 was playing a movie auspiciously entitled, Rockstar.

"What the hell is this?" I wondered aloud.

Eric informed me it was about some guy who lives out his dream as fronting some huge English heavy metal 80s band, Steel Dragon (?), after he is discovered wailing aloud in the FRONT ROW at a huge stadium show.

Jennifer Aniston plays his GF with the heart of gold, who quietly, not insanely as most rockstar girlfriends often do, backs away when she walks in on a party in which the girls are lined up outside the door waiting for their fuck turns.

My absolute favorite line in the movie was when Marky Mark was flown into LA and he goes to audition for Steel Dragon, only the original singer for the band arrives to give Marky Mark the shocking news that he, the biggest rockstar of the 80s, is ONLY being replaced because he is GAY!!!! And NO ONE wants a fag fronting a huge metal band! (Who has EVER heard of THAT happening?)

"Good luck, man, you think being a rockstar is all sex, drugs and rock&roll;? Well, it's not. You have to drink water, be in bed by 10pm to rest your voice and it's HARD WORK to be THIS GOOD."

"Yeah," the guitar player scoffs in a very brutal English way. "He thinks he's Elvis, only Elvis was the KING..."

Then the past lead singer yanks off his very metal wig of long hair to reveal a very gay short haircut and states sadly, "and I'm just the Queen."

RENT IT. NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in a pretty good mood right now, have been all day, despite having to do home visits in the cold and snow earlier (and one of them wasn't home, even though I called to tell them I was coming). Basically, I have two families who live on E.102nd st., only they live about four avenues apart. The cool thing about that area is that you need to walk up a huge hill on Lexington Avenue!!! You can then look down at lower Manhattan.

The other cool thing is that in this one project I went to, although it's on the highest floor and the elevator takes one million years and sometimes I'm alone in the tiny elevator with someone who is staring at me like I'm some kind of bizarre specimen, well today I was left off onto an XMAS FILLED HALLWAY!!! The entire floor was festooned with garlands and lights and wrapping paper and ornaments!!! Murders often happen in some housing project hallways (one of my coworkers was joking around at our staff meeting last week because he saw someone get shot and killed in front of his eyes and actually pulled out his cellphone to leave a message recording the sounds for our supervisor so that she wouldn't think he was making this up), however when I saw the Xmas filled hallway, I was also filled with, yes, JOY. AND my client's sister always walks me to the hallway and waits for the elevator with me, even though it takes over five minutes (clearly, priority in these places is not providing tenants with two working elevators, but there ARE signs conveniently posted to remind you, "riding on top of the elevator is dangerous and can often cause injury and death." I wanted to tell her, "Don't worry about ME, as surely nothing bad can happen to someone in a hallway as festive as this."

2:30 pm - Southside Holiday Spectacular
Southside Williamsburg's very festive "HOLY CRAP I'M SCREWED" last minute shopping night:

WHEN: this friday ~ dec 17th ~ 1pm till midnight ~ (that's precisely 1 week and 1 day before x-mas)

WHY: big sales on select merchandise and FREE drink tickets to participating bars with purchases over $50

AND WHY ELSE?: holiday-centric sales, no stupid long lines, no rude sales girls.

WHERE: L to Bedford/ G to Metropolitan, J to Marcy, maps handed ut at participating establishments

WHO: Allioli, Allman Fine Wine and Liquor, Atlas Café, Black Betty, Books and Records, Bottle Shoppe, Bozu, Buffalo Cantina, Catbird, Cha Wan, Cinders, Clem¹s, Coney¹s, Cosmo¹s Cosmos, Food Swings, Fortuna, Ghostown, Grand Café, Hogar Collection, Iona, Lady Dang, L¹agniappe, Lint, Love Shine, The Lucky Cat, M Shanghai, Modest Design, Now Playing, nydesignroom, The Pub, Rabbits, Soma, Special, Spuyten Duyvil, The Stinger Club, Supercore, Sweet Virginia, Tainted Lady Lounge, Therapy, Trash Bar, Two Jakes, Volume 1e, Willy Bee¹s, The Yarn Tree and more!

My suggestions of course:
shop at LOVE SHINE,
drink right next door at LUCKY CAT :)

Because this is more of a "shopping event," I just wanted to mention that Love Shine is my favorite shop in all of the universe. They have Dia de los Muertos figures (affordable, which is unheard of in this city), specialty purses and book bags, kitschy religious merchandise (dying to find a Jesus ashtray? A Virgin de Guadalupe night light? Come here!!), fun stickers (Coop stuff, too), gorgeous costume jewelery (glittery rosary beads and crosses to classy, beaded earrings), Mexican wrestling masks, Mexican oil cloth, South American art (for those of you who have seen my huge tin sacred heart with sconces, there is a whole ton of stuff like that), plastic flowers, lanterns, and can I go on anymore...?

Plus, the owner, Alex, is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met and a true friend. I am doing ALL of my Christmas shopping here, as it seems to really fit the mold of "something for everyone." If you go in and tell him that the gals from the Lucky Cat sent you, or that you know me, etc., he will pay special attention to you and help you find whatever you need, within your budget.

and no, I haven't even started my Xmas shopping yet :)
